4 Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you say, I will do for you.” 5 David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is (A)the new moon, and I should not fail to sit at table with the king. But let me go, (B)that I may hide myself in the field till the third day at evening. 6 (C)If your father misses me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly asked leave of me to run (D)to Bethlehem his city, for there is a yearly (E)sacrifice there for all the clan.’

New International Version
4 Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do for you.”
5 So David said, “Look, tomorrow is the New Moon feast,(A) and I am supposed to dine with the king; but let me go and hide(B) in the field until the evening of the day after tomorrow. 6 If your father misses me at all, tell him, ‘David earnestly asked my permission(C) to hurry to Bethlehem,(D) his hometown, because an annual(E) sacrifice is being made there for his whole clan.’
