⁹ He will guard the feet^(A) of his faithful servants,^(B)
    but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.^(C)

“It is not by strength^(D) that one prevails;

²² He reveals the deep things of darkness^(A)
    and brings utter darkness^(B) into the light.^(C)

³⁰ In that day^(A) they will roar over it
    like the roaring of the sea.^(B)
And if one looks at the land,
    there is only darkness^(C) and distress;^(D)
    even the sun will be darkened^(E) by clouds.

¹³ He who forms the mountains,^(A)
    who creates the wind,^(B)
    and who reveals his thoughts^(C) to mankind,
who turns dawn to darkness,
    and treads on the heights of the earth^(D)—
    the Lord God Almighty is his name.^(E)

⁸ He who made the Pleiades and Orion,^(A)
    who turns midnight into dawn^(B)
    and darkens day into night,^(C)
who calls for the waters of the sea
    and pours them out over the face of the land—
    the Lord is his name.^(D)
9 With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold
    and brings the fortified city to ruin.^(E)

¹⁰ There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court^(F)
    and detest the one who tells the truth.^(G)

¹¹ You levy a straw tax on the poor^(H)
    and impose a tax on their grain.
Therefore, though you have built stone mansions,^(I)
    you will not live in them;^(J)
though you have planted lush vineyards,
    you will not drink their wine.^(K)
12 For I know how many are your offenses
    and how great your sins.^(L)

There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes^(M)
    and deprive the poor^(N) of justice in the courts.^(O)
13 Therefore the prudent keep quiet^(P) in such times,
    for the times are evil.^(Q)

¹⁴ Seek good, not evil,
    that you may live.^(R)
Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you,
    just as you say he is.
¹⁵ Hate evil,^(S) love good;^(T)
    maintain justice in the courts.^(U)
Perhaps^(V) the Lord God Almighty will have mercy^(W)
    on the remnant^(X) of Joseph.

“There will be wailing^(Y) in all the streets^(Z)
    and cries of anguish in every public square.
The farmers^(AA) will be summoned to weep
    and the mourners to wail.
¹⁷ There will be wailing^(AB) in all the vineyards,
    for I will pass through^(AC) your midst,”
says the Lord.^(AD)

⁶ Therefore night will come over you, without visions,
    and darkness, without divination.^(A)
The sun will set for the prophets,^(B)
    and the day will go dark for them.^(C)
