19 But at the time when Saul’s daughter Merab should have been given to David, she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.
20 Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David. Saul was told, and the thing pleased him. 21 Saul thought, ‘Let me give her to him that she may be a snare for him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.’ Therefore Saul said to David a second time,[a] ‘You shall now be my son-in-law.’

19 So[a] when the time came for Merab,(A) Saul’s daughter, to be given to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.(B)
20 Now Saul’s daughter Michal(C) was in love with David, and when they told Saul about it, he was pleased.(D) 21 “I will give her to him,” he thought, “so that she may be a snare(E) to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law.”
