19 Howbeit when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, [a]she was given unto Adriel a Meholathite to wife.
20 ¶ Then Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they showed Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21 Therefore Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a [b]snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law in the one of the twain.

New International Version
19 So[a] when the time came for Merab,(A) Saul’s daughter, to be given to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.(B)
20 Now Saul’s daughter Michal(C) was in love with David, and when they told Saul about it, he was pleased.(D) 21 “I will give her to him,” he thought, “so that she may be a snare(E) to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law.”
