David Anointed as King
16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him from being king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and set out; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.” 2 Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” And the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for me the one whom I name to you.” 4 Samuel did what the Lord commanded, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, “Do you come peaceably?” 5 He said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is now before the Lord.”[a] 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 9 Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 10 Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, and Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.” 12 He sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and had beautiful eyes, and was handsome. The Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; for this is the one.” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah.
David Plays the Lyre for Saul
14 Now the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him. 15 And Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you. 16 Let our lord now command the servants who attend you to look for someone who is skillful in playing the lyre; and when the evil spirit from God is upon you, he will play it, and you will feel better.” 17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide for me someone who can play well, and bring him to me.” 18 One of the young men answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a warrior, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence; and the Lord is with him.” 19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David who is with the sheep.” 20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a kid, and sent them by his son David to Saul. 21 And David came to Saul, and entered his service. Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer. 22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.” 23 And whenever the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand, and Saul would be relieved and feel better, and the evil spirit would depart from him.

Il Signore disse: «Prenderai con te una giovenca e dirai: “Sono venuto a offrire un sacrificio al Signore”. 3 Inviterai Isai al sacrificio; io ti farò sapere quello che dovrai fare e tu ungerai per me colui che ti dirò».
4 Samuele dunque fece quello che il Signore gli aveva detto e andò a Betlemme. Gli anziani della città gli andarono incontro turbati, e gli chiesero: «Vieni in pace?» 5 Ed egli rispose: «Pace! Vengo a offrire un sacrificio al Signore; purificatevi e venite con me al sacrificio». Fece anche purificare Isai e i suoi figli e li invitò al sacrificio.
6 Mentre entravano, egli pensò, vedendo Eliab: «Certo l’unto del Signore è qui davanti a lui». 7 Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: «Non badare al suo aspetto né alla sua statura, perché io l’ho scartato; infatti il Signore non bada a ciò che colpisce lo sguardo dell’uomo: l’uomo guarda all’apparenza, ma il Signore guarda al cuore». 8 Allora Isai chiamò Abinadab e lo fece passare davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse: «Il Signore non si è scelto neppure questo». 9 Isai fece passare Samma, ma Samuele disse: «Il Signore non si è scelto neppure questo». 10 Isai fece passare così sette dei suoi figli davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse a Isai: «Il Signore non si è scelto questi». 11 Poi Samuele disse a Isai: «Sono questi tutti i tuoi figli?» Isai rispose: «Resta ancora il più giovane, ma è al pascolo con le pecore». Samuele disse a Isai: «Mandalo a cercare, perché non ci metteremo a mangiare prima che sia arrivato qua». 12 Isai dunque lo mandò a cercare, e lo fece venire. Egli era biondo, aveva begli occhi e un bell’aspetto. Il Signore disse a Samuele: «Àlzati, ungilo, perché è lui». 13 Allora Samuele prese il corno dell’olio e lo unse in mezzo ai suoi fratelli; da quel giorno lo Spirito del Signore investì Davide. Poi Samuele si alzò e se ne tornò a Rama.

14 (B)Lo Spirito del Signore si era ritirato da Saul; e uno spirito cattivo, permesso dal Signore[a], lo turbava. 15 I servitori di Saul gli dissero: «Ecco, un cattivo spirito permesso da Dio ti turba. 16 Ordini ora il nostro signore ai tuoi servi, che stanno davanti a te, di cercare un uomo che sappia suonare l’arpa; quando il cattivo spirito permesso da Dio verrà su di te, l’arpista si metterà a suonare e tu ti sentirai meglio». 17 Saul disse ai suoi servitori: «Trovatemi un uomo che suoni bene, e conducetelo qui». 18 Allora uno dei giovani prese a dire: «Ho visto un figlio di Isai, il Betlemmita, che sa suonare; è un uomo forte, valoroso, un guerriero, parla bene, è di bell’aspetto e il Signore è con lui». 19 Saul dunque inviò dei messaggeri da Isai per dirgli: «Mandami Davide, tuo figlio, che è con il gregge». 20 E Isai prese un asino carico di pane, un otre di vino, un capretto e mandò tutto a Saul per mezzo di Davide suo figlio. 21 Davide arrivò da Saul e si presentò a lui; Saul gli si affezionò molto e lo fece suo scudiero. 22 Saul mandò a dire a Isai: «Ti prego, lascia Davide al mio servizio, perché egli ha trovato grazia agli occhi miei». 23 Or quando il cattivo spirito permesso da Dio veniva su Saul, Davide prendeva l’arpa e si metteva a suonare; Saul si calmava, stava meglio e il cattivo spirito andava via da lui.

16 Und der Herr sprach zu Samuel: Bis wann trägst du noch Leid um Saul, da ich ihn doch verworfen habe, dass er nicht mehr König sein soll über Israel? Fülle dein Horn mit Öl und geh hin, ich will dich zu Isai, dem Bethlehemiter, senden; denn unter seinen Söhnen habe ich mir einen König ausersehen!
2 Samuel aber sprach: Wie soll ich hingehen? Wenn Saul es erfährt, so wird er mich töten! Und der Herr sprach: Nimm eine junge Kuh mit dir und sprich: Ich bin gekommen, um dem Herrn zu opfern!
3 Und du sollst Isai zum Schlachtopfer einladen; ich aber will dir zeigen, was du tun sollst, sodass du mir den salbst, den ich dir nennen werde!
4 Und Samuel machte es so, wie es ihm der Herr gesagt hatte, und begab sich nach Bethlehem. Da kamen die Ältesten der Stadt ihm zitternd entgegen und sprachen: Bedeutet dein Kommen Frieden?
5 Er sprach: Ja, Frieden! Ich bin gekommen, um dem Herrn zu opfern. Heiligt euch und kommt mit mir zum Schlachtopfer! Und er heiligte Isai und seine Söhne und lud sie zum Schlachtopfer ein.
6 Und es geschah, als sie hereinkamen, da sah er Eliab an und dachte: Gewiss ist [hier] vor dem Herrn sein Gesalbter!
7 Aber der Herr sprach zu Samuel: Schaue nicht auf sein Aussehen, noch auf seinen hohen Wuchs, denn ich habe ihn verworfen! Denn [der Herr] sieht nicht auf das, worauf der Mensch sieht; denn der Mensch sieht auf das, was vor Augen ist[a], der Herr aber sieht das Herz an!
8 Da rief Isai den Abinadab und ließ ihn vor Samuel vorübergehen. Und er sprach: Diesen hat der Herr auch nicht erwählt!
9 Da ließ Isai den Schamma vorübergehen. Er aber sprach: Diesen hat der Herr auch nicht erwählt!
10 So ließ Isai sieben seiner Söhne vor Samuel vorübergehen. Aber Samuel sprach zu Isai: Der Herr hat diese nicht erwählt!
11 Und Samuel fragte den Isai: Sind das alle jungen Männer? Er aber sprach: Der Jüngste ist noch übrig, und siehe, er hütet die Schafe! Da sprach Samuel zu Isai: Sende hin und lass ihn holen, denn wir werden uns nicht zu Tisch setzen, bis er hierhergekommen ist!
12 Da sandte er hin und ließ ihn holen. Und er war rötlich, mit schönen Augen und von gutem Aussehen. Und der Herr sprach: Auf, salbe ihn, denn dieser ist"s!
13 Da nahm Samuel das Ölhorn und salbte ihn mitten unter seinen Brüdern. Und der Geist des Herrn kam über David[b], von diesem Tag an und weiterhin. Samuel aber machte sich auf und ging nach Rama.
Ein böser Geist überfällt Saul. David im Dienst Sauls
14 Aber der Geist des Herrn wich von Saul, und ein böser Geist, von dem Herrn [gesandt], schreckte ihn.
15 Da sprachen Sauls Knechte zu ihm: Siehe doch, ein böser Geist von Gott pflegt dich zu schrecken!
16 Unser Herr sage doch deinen Knechten, die vor dir stehen, dass sie einen Mann suchen, der auf der Harfe[c] zu spielen versteht, damit er, wenn der böse Geist von Gott über dich kommt, mit seiner Hand spielt, damit es dir besser geht!
17 Da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten: Seht euch um nach einem Mann, der gut auf Saiten spielen kann, und bringt ihn zu mir!
18 Da antwortete einer der Burschen und sprach: Siehe, ich habe einen Sohn Isais, des Bethlehemiten, gesehen, der das Saitenspiel versteht und auch ein tapferer Mann ist und tüchtig zum Kampf, verständig in seiner Rede und schön; und der Herr ist mit ihm.
19 Da sandte Saul Boten zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Sende deinen Sohn David, der bei den Schafen ist, zu mir!
20 Da nahm Isai einen Esel [beladen] mit Brot und einen Schlauch Wein und ein Ziegenböcklein und sandte es Saul durch seinen Sohn David.
21 So kam David zu Saul und diente ihm[d]; und er gewann ihn sehr lieb, und er wurde sein Waffenträger.
22 Und Saul sandte zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Lass doch David vor mir bleiben, denn er hat Gnade gefunden vor meinen Augen!
23 Wenn nun der [böse] Geist von Gott über Saul kam, so nahm David die Harfe und spielte mit seiner Hand; und Saul fand Erleichterung, und es wurde ihm wohl, und der böse Geist wich von ihm.

2 De Sámuel ezt kérdezte: „Hogyan mehetnék oda? Ha Saul megtudja, biztosan megölet engem!”
„Vigyél magaddal egy üszőborjút, és ezt mondd: »Azért jöttem, hogy az Örökkévalónak áldozzak.« 3 Hívd meg Isait az áldozatra, azután majd megmondom, mitévő legyél. Azt kend fel királynak, akit mutatok neked!”

7 De az Örökkévaló ezt mondta Sámuelnek: „Ne arra tekints, hogy milyen szemrevaló külsejű, vagy daliás termetű, mert nem őt választottam. Az ember annak alapján ítél, amit lát, de én nem a külsejét, hanem a szívét nézem.”
8 Ezután szólította Isai a második fiát, Abinádábot, és Sámuelhez vezette, aki ezt mondta: „Nem, ő sem az Örökkévaló választottja.”
9 Majd Sammát vezette Isai Sámuelhez, aki ismét ezt mondta: „Ő sem az, akit az Örökkévaló választott.”

12 Isai elhívatta legkisebb fiát, és Sámuel elé állította. Ez a fiú pirospozsgás arcú[c], szép termetű és ragyogó szemű volt. Akkor az Örökkévaló szólt Sámuelnek: „Ő az! Őt kend föl!”
13 Sámuel vette az olajtartóját, és a fiú fejére öntötte az olajat. Így kente föl testvérei előtt a legkisebb fiút. Ekkor az Örökkévaló Szelleme betöltötte Dávidot — mert így hívták —, és attól kezdve vele is maradt.
Ezután Sámuel visszatért Rámába.
Dávid Saul udvarába kerül
14 Saultól viszont eltávozott az Örökkévaló Szelleme. Azután a királyt egy gonosz szellem kezdte gyötörni, akit az Örökkévaló küldött. 15 Szolgái ezt javasolták Saulnak: „Látod, urunk, hogy gyötör téged ez a gonosz szellem, amelyet Isten küldött! 16 Engedd meg hát, hogy szolgáid keressenek valakit, aki ért a hárfa pengetéséhez! Ő majd játszik neked, mikor a gonosz szellem ismét megszáll téged, s akkor megkönnyebbülsz.”
17 „Jól van, keressetek hát valakit nekem, aki ért a hárfa pengetéséhez, és hozzátok elém!” — egyezett bele a király.
18 Az egyik udvari szolga megszólalt: „Én ismerek valakit Betlehemben, aki szépen hárfázik, bátor és harcra termett, értelmes beszédű, daliás termetű és vele van az Örökkévaló! Az apját Isainak hívják.”
19 Saul nyomban elküldte egyik szolgáját Isaihoz ezzel az üzenettel: „Küldd hozzám Dávid fiadat, aki a juhokat őrzi!”
20 Isai fogott egy szamarat, felrakott rá néhány kenyeret, egy tömlő bort meg egy kecskegidát — és elküldte a fiával, Dáviddal a királynak. 21 Dávid megérkezett a királyhoz, és a szolgálatába állt. Saul hamarosan megszerette, és fegyverhordozójává fogadta. 22 Isainak pedig ezt üzente: „Engedd meg, hogy Dávid az udvaromban maradjon, mert nagyon megkedveltem!”
23 Amikor pedig az Isten által küldött gonosz szellem gyötörni kezdte Sault, Dávid vette a hárfáját, és játszott rajta a királynak. A gonosz szellem ilyenkor eltávozott, és Saul megkönnyebbült.

16 L’Eternel dit à Samuel : Combien de temps encore vas-tu pleurer sur Saül, alors que moi, je l’ai rejeté pour lui retirer la royauté sur Israël ? Remplis ta corne d’huile et va à Bethléhem[a], je t’envoie chez Isaï[b], car je me suis choisi pour moi un roi parmi ses fils.
2 Samuel répondit : Comment puis-je faire cela ? Saül l’apprendra et il me fera mourir !
L’Eternel lui dit : Tu emmèneras une génisse et tu diras que tu vas m’offrir un sacrifice. 3 Tu inviteras Isaï à y assister et je t’indiquerai alors ce que tu devras faire. Tu conféreras de ma part l’onction à celui que je te désignerai.
4 Samuel fit ce que l’Eternel lui avait ordonné. Lorsqu’il arriva à Bethléhem, les responsables de la ville, inquiets, vinrent au-devant de lui et lui demandèrent : Ta venue annonce-t-elle quelque chose de bon ?
5 – Oui, répondit-il, c’est quelque chose de bon : je suis venu offrir un sacrifice à l’Eternel. Purifiez-vous et venez ensuite avec moi au sacrifice.
Il demanda également à Isaï et ses fils de se purifier en les invitant à prendre part au repas du sacrifice.
6 A leur arrivée, il remarqua Eliab et se dit : Certainement, c’est celui qui se tient maintenant devant l’Eternel qu’il a choisi pour lui donner l’onction.
7 Mais l’Eternel lui dit : Ne te laisse pas impressionner par son apparence physique et sa taille imposante, car ce n’est pas lui que j’ai choisi. Je ne juge pas de la même manière que les hommes. L’homme ne voit que ce qui frappe les yeux, mais l’Eternel regarde au cœur.
8 Ensuite Isaï appela Abinadab et le présenta à Samuel, mais il dit : L’Eternel n’a pas non plus choisi celui-ci.
9 Puis Isaï fit avancer Shamma. Samuel dit à nouveau : L’Eternel n’a pas non plus choisi celui-ci.
10 Isaï présenta ainsi sept fils à Samuel et celui-ci lui dit : L’Eternel n’a choisi aucun de ceux-là.
11 Puis il lui demanda : Est-ce que ce sont là tous tes garçons ?
– Non, répondit Isaï. Il reste encore le plus jeune qui garde les moutons au pâturage.
– Envoie-le chercher ! ordonna Samuel, car nous ne nous installerons pas pour le repas du sacrifice avant qu’il ne soit arrivé ici.
12 Isaï le fit donc venir. C’était un garçon aux cheveux roux, avec de beaux yeux et qui avait belle apparence. L’Eternel dit à Samuel : C’est lui. Vas-y, confère-lui l’onction.
13 Samuel prit la corne pleine d’huile et il en oignit David en présence de sa famille. L’Esprit de l’Eternel tomba sur David et demeura sur lui à partir de ce jour-là et dans la suite. Après cela, Samuel se remit en route et retourna à Rama.
L’Eternel retire son Esprit à Saül
14 L’Esprit de l’Eternel se retira de Saül, tandis qu’un mauvais esprit envoyé par l’Eternel se mit à le tourmenter. 15 Les serviteurs de Saül lui dirent : Voilà qu’un mauvais esprit envoyé par Dieu te tourmente. 16 Il te suffit, notre seigneur, de dire un mot et tes serviteurs ici présents te chercheront quelqu’un qui sache jouer de la lyre. Quand le mauvais esprit de Dieu t’assaillira, le musicien jouera de son instrument et cela te soulagera.
17 Saül répondit : D’accord, cherchez-moi donc un bon musicien et amenez-le-moi !
18 L’un des serviteurs dit alors : J’ai justement remarqué un fils d’Isaï de Bethléhem, qui sait jouer de la lyre. C’est aussi un brave guerrier. De plus, il s’exprime bien, il a belle apparence et l’Eternel est avec lui.
19 Saül envoya alors des messagers à Isaï avec cet ordre : Envoie-moi ton fils David, celui qui garde les moutons.
20 Isaï prit un âne qu’il chargea de pains, d’une outre de vin et d’un chevreau et il envoya ces présents à Saül par son fils David. 21 Quand celui-ci arriva chez Saül, il entra à son service ; Saül le prit en affection et lui confia le soin de porter ses armes. 22 Il envoya dire à Isaï : J’apprécie beaucoup David. Qu’il reste donc à mon service !
23 Dès lors, chaque fois que le mauvais esprit venu de Dieu assaillait Saül, David prenait sa lyre et en jouait. Alors Saül se calmait et se sentait mieux, et le mauvais esprit le quittait.
