²⁰ Then Saul said to Samuel, “^(A)I did obey the voice of the Lord, and went on the ^[a]mission on which the Lord sent me, and have brought back Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

²⁶ But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for ^(A)you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

⁴² He said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore ^(A)your ^[a]life shall go for his ^[b]life, and your people for his people.’”
