²⁰ Then Saul said to Samuel, “^(A)I did ^[a]obey the voice of Yahweh and went on the way on which Yahweh sent me and have brought back Agag the king of Amalek and have devoted the Amalekites to destruction.

²⁶ But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for ^(A)you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

⁴² And he said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore ^(A)your ^[a]life shall go for his ^[b]life, and your people for his people.’”
