(A)You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [a](B)someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

[b]To sum up, (C)all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, [c](D)loving, (E)compassionate, and (F)humble; (G)not returning evil for evil or (H)insult for insult, but giving a (I)blessing instead; for (J)you were called for the very purpose that you would (K)inherit a blessing. 10 For,

(L)The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 (M)He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
12 (N)For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”

Christ Is Our Example

21 For (A)you have been called for this purpose, (B)because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you (C)an example, so that you would follow in His steps, 22 He who (D)committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 [a]and while being (E)abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 and He Himself [b](F)brought our sins in His body up on the [c](G)cross, so that we (H)might die to [d]sin and live for righteousness; (I)by His [e]wounds you were (J)healed. 25 For you were (K)continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the (L)Shepherd and [f]Guardian of your souls.
