Rather, it should be that of your inner self,(A) the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.(B) For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God(C) used to adorn themselves.(D) They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord.(E) You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Husbands,(F) in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
