⁶⁹ And Demetrius appointed Apollonius the governor of Coelesyria, and he assembled a large force and encamped against Jamnia. Then he sent the following message to the high priest Jonathan:^(A)

⁴ But a man named Simon, of the tribe of Balgea,^[a] who had been made captain of the temple, had a disagreement with the high priest about the administration of the city market.^(A)

⁷ When Apollonius met the king, he told him of the money about which he had been informed. The king^[a] chose Heliodorus, who was in charge of his affairs, and sent him with commands to effect the removal of the reported wealth.^(A)

²⁴ Antiochus^[a] sent Apollonius, the captain of the Mysians, with an army of twenty-two thousand and commanded him to kill all the grown men and to sell the women and boys as slaves.^(A)
