Hoe worden de doden weer levend gemaakt?

35 Jullie zeggen misschien: "Maar hóe worden de doden dan weer levend gemaakt? En wat voor lichaam hebben ze dan?" 36 Maar dat is een dwaze vraag! Alles wat je zaait, moet eerst sterven. Pas dan kan er nieuw leven uit ontstaan. 37 En wat je zaait, ziet er niet hetzelfde uit als wat er later uitkomt. Wat je zaait is maar een simpele korrel, bijvoorbeeld graan. 38 Maar God laat er een bepaalde plant uit groeien. Uit elke soort zaad groeit een bepaalde soort plant.

39 Ook zijn niet alle levende wezens hetzelfde. Het lichaam van mensen is anders dan van dieren. En het lichaam van vogels is weer anders dan van vissen. 40 En aardse lichamen zoals mensen, dieren en planten, zijn weer anders dan de hemellichamen zoals zon, maan en sterren. Ze zijn verschillend van schoonheid. 41 En het licht van de zon is ook weer anders dan het licht van de maan of van de sterren. En de ene ster schijnt helderder dan de andere ster.

42 Zo is het ook met de opstanding uit de dood. Wat wordt gezaaid, is sterfelijk. Maar wat opstaat uit de dood, is onsterfelijk. 43 Wat wordt gezaaid is niet mooi. Wat opstaat uit de dood is prachtig. Wat wordt gezaaid, is zwak. Maar wat opstaat uit de dood, is vol kracht. 44 Er wordt een aards lichaam gezaaid, maar er staat een geestelijk lichaam op. Want net zoals er een aards lichaam bestaat, bestaat er ook een geestelijk lichaam. 45 Dat staat ook in de Boeken: "De eerste mens, Adam, werd een levend wezen." Maar de laatste Adam (= Jezus) werd een levendmakende Geest. 46 Maar het geestelijke was er niet het eerst. Eerst kwam het aardse. Daarna pas het geestelijke. 47 De eerste mens werd uit het stof van de aarde gemaakt. Maar de tweede Mens is uit de hemel. 48 Alle aardse mensen lijken op de eerste aardse mens. En alle hemelse mensen lijken op de hemelse Mens. 49 En net zoals we eerst lijken op die aardse mens, zo zullen we later lijken op die hemelse Mens.

50 Maar ik zeg jullie, broeders en zusters: vlees en bloed kunnen het Koninkrijk van God niet binnengaan. Sterfelijke dingen kunnen geen onsterfelijkheid binnengaan.

35 But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what manner of body do they come? 36 Thou foolish one, that which thou thyself sowest is not quickened except it die: 37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other kind; 38 but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fishes. 40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 it is sown a [a]natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a [b]natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, [c]The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is [d]natural; then that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, [e]we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
