46 “Everyone sins. So your people will also sin against you. And you will become angry with your people. You will let their enemies defeat them. Their enemies will make them prisoners and carry them away to their own countries. 47 Your people might be sorry for their sins when they are held as prisoners in another country. Perhaps they will be sorry and pray to you in the land where they are held as prisoners. They might say, ‘We have sinned and done wrong.’ 48 They may truly turn back to you in the land of their enemies. Perhaps they will pray to you, facing this land you gave their fathers. They may pray to you, facing this city you have chosen. They may face this Temple I have built for your worship.

46 “When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin(A)—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive(B) to their own lands, far away or near; 47 and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead(C) with you in the land of their captors and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’;(D) 48 and if they turn back(E) to you with all their heart(F) and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray(G) to you toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and the temple(H) I have built for your Name;(I)
