15 Then Solomon awoke; it had been a dream. He came to Jerusalem where he stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. He offered up burnt offerings and offerings of well-being, and provided a feast for all his servants.
Solomon’s Wisdom in Judgment
16 Later, two women who were prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. 17 The one woman said, “Please, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house; and I gave birth while she was in the house. 18 Then on the third day after I gave birth, this woman also gave birth. We were together; there was no one else with us in the house, only the two of us were in the house. 19 Then this woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on him. 20 She got up in the middle of the night and took my son from beside me while your servant slept. She laid him at her breast, and laid her dead son at my breast. 21 When I rose in the morning to nurse my son, I saw that he was dead; but when I looked at him closely in the morning, clearly it was not the son I had borne.” 22 But the other woman said, “No, the living son is mine, and the dead son is yours.” The first said, “No, the dead son is yours, and the living son is mine.” So they argued before the king.
23 Then the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son that is alive, and your son is dead’; while the other says, ‘Not so! Your son is dead, and my son is the living one.’” 24 So the king said, “Bring me a sword,” and they brought a sword before the king. 25 The king said, “Divide the living boy in two; then give half to the one, and half to the other.” 26 But the woman whose son was alive said to the king—because compassion for her son burned within her—“Please, my lord, give her the living boy; certainly do not kill him!” The other said, “It shall be neither mine nor yours; divide it.” 27 Then the king responded: “Give the first woman the living boy; do not kill him. She is his mother.” 28 All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered; and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute justice.

16 (A)Allora due prostitute vennero a presentarsi davanti al re. 17 Una delle due disse: «Permetti, mio signore! Io e questa donna abitavamo nella medesima casa, e io partorii mentre lei stava in casa. 18 Il terzo giorno dopo il mio parto, partorì anche questa donna. Noi stavamo insieme, e non c’erano estranei; non c’eravamo che noi due in casa. 19 Poi, durante la notte, il figlio di questa donna morì, perché lei gli si era coricata sopra. 20 Lei, alzatasi nel cuore della notte, prese mio figlio dal mio fianco, mentre la tua serva dormiva, e lo adagiò sul suo seno, e sul mio seno mise il figlio suo morto. 21 Quando mi sono alzata al mattino per allattare mio figlio, egli era morto; ma, guardandolo meglio a giorno chiaro, mi accorsi che non era il figlio che io avevo partorito». 22 L’altra donna disse: «No, il figlio vivo è il mio e il morto è il tuo». Ma la prima replicò: «No, invece, il morto è il figlio tuo e il vivo è il mio». Così litigavano in presenza del re.
23 Allora il re disse: «Una dice: “Questo che è vivo è mio figlio e quello che è morto è il tuo”; e l’altra dice: “No, invece, il morto è il figlio tuo e il vivo è il mio”». 24 Il re ordinò: «Portatemi una spada!» E portarono una spada davanti al re. 25 Il re disse: «Dividete il bambino vivo in due parti, e datene la metà all’una e la metà all’altra». 26 Allora la donna a cui apparteneva il bambino vivo, sentendosi commuovere le viscere per suo figlio, disse al re: «Mio signore, date a lei il bambino vivo, e non uccidetelo, no!» Ma l’altra diceva: «Non sia mio né tuo; si divida!» 27 Allora il re rispose: «Date a quella il bambino vivo, e non uccidetelo; lei è sua madre!»
28 Tutto Israele udì parlare del giudizio che il re aveva pronunciato, ed ebbero rispetto per il re, perché vedevano che la sapienza di Dio era in lui per amministrare la giustizia.

16 Ezek után történt, hogy egyszer két asszony jött a király elé, ítéletét kérve. Prostituáltak voltak, megálltak a király trónja előtt, 17 és egyikük előadta az esetet: „Uram, királyom! Mi ketten egy házban lakunk, és mindketten gyermeket vártunk. Én szültem meg hamarabb a gyermekemet, 18 ő pedig három nappal később. Ezalatt senki más nem volt velünk a házban, csak mi ketten és a csecsemők. 19 Az egyik éjjel ő ráfeküdt a saját gyermekére, aki emiatt meghalt. 20 Ő azonban még akkor éjjel felkelt, és amíg én aludtam, kicserélte a két csecsemőt: elvette mellőlem a fiamat, és a saját halott fiát tette a helyére. 21 Reggel, amikor szoptatni akartam a fiamat, láttam, hogy már nem él! De ahogy alaposabban szemügyre vettem, láttam, hogy ez nem is az én fiam, akit szültem.”
22 Ekkor azonban a másik asszony közbevágott: „Nem így van! Az eleven gyermek az enyém, és a halott a tiéd!”
Az első asszony így válaszolt: „Nem igaz! A te fiad halt meg, az élő pedig az enyém!” Így vitatkoztak a király előtt.
23 Végül a király ezt mondta: „Szóval mindketten azt állítjátok, hogy az élő gyermek a tiétek, és a másiknak a fia halt meg?” 24 Akkor a király szólt a szolgáknak, hogy hozzanak egy kardot. 25 Majd ezt mondta: „Vágjátok ketté az élő gyermeket! Adjátok az egyik felét az egyik asszonynak, a másik felét a másiknak!”
26 Az élő gyermek anyja ekkor megsajnálta a fiát, és így kiáltott a királynak: „Ó, uram, kérlek, inkább legyen a másik asszonyé a gyermek, csak ne öljék meg!” A másik asszony viszont ezt mondta: „Vágjátok csak ketté, ne legyen se az övé, se az enyém!”
27 Akkor a király így ítélt: „Ne öljétek meg az élő gyermeket, hanem adjátok az első asszonynak, mert valóban ő az anyja!”
28 Egész Izráel népe hallott erről az esetről és Salamon ítéletéről. Tisztelettel és félelemmel tekintettek a királyra, mert megértették, hogy Isten bölcsessége lakik benne, és így hozza meg ítéleteit.

15 Salomon s’éveilla, avec ce rêve présent à l’esprit, et il revint à Jérusalem. Là, il alla se présenter devant le coffre de l’alliance de l’Eternel. Il offrit des holocaustes, présenta des sacrifices de communion et donna un festin auquel il invita tous ses hauts fonctionnaires.
Salomon rend la justice avec sagesse
16 Un jour, deux femmes prostituées vinrent chez le roi et se présentèrent devant lui. 17 L’une d’elles lui dit : S’il te plaît, mon seigneur, écoute-moi : cette femme et moi nous habitons dans la même maison et j’ai donné naissance à un fils près d’elle. 18 Trois jours après, elle a aussi mis un enfant au monde. Nous vivons seules ensemble dans cette maison, il n’y a personne d’autre avec nous et nous n’étions que toutes les deux. 19 Or, pendant la nuit, elle s’est couchée sur son fils et l’a étouffé. 20 Alors elle s’est levée au milieu de la nuit, elle a enlevé mon fils à mes côtés pendant que moi, je dormais, et l’a couché contre elle, puis elle a déposé son bébé mort près de moi. 21 Le matin, je me suis levée pour allaiter mon enfant et j’ai trouvé l’enfant mort. Le jour venu, je l’ai examiné attentivement et j’ai reconnu que ce n’était pas mon fils que j’avais mis au monde.
22 – C’est faux ! interrompit l’autre femme. C’est mon fils qui est vivant et le tien est mort !
– Pas du tout, riposta la première, c’est ton fils qui est mort et le mien qui est vivant !
Et elles continuèrent à se disputer ainsi devant le roi.
23 Celui-ci déclara finalement : L’une dit : « C’est ici mon fils qui est vivant ; et c’est le tien qui est mort. » Mais l’autre dit : « Pas du tout, c’est ton fils qui est mort et le mien qui est vivant. » 24 Eh bien, ajouta le roi, qu’on m’apporte une épée.
On lui apporta une épée. 25 Alors il dit : Coupez l’enfant vivant en deux et donnez-en une moitié à chacune.
26 Alors la mère de l’enfant vivant, poussée par son amour pour son fils, s’écria : De grâce, mon seigneur, qu’on lui donne le bébé vivant, qu’on ne le fasse pas mourir !
Mais l’autre dit : Non, coupez-le en deux. Ainsi il ne sera ni à moi ni à elle.
27 Alors le roi prononça son jugement et dit : Ne tuez pas l’enfant ! Donnez-le à la première des deux femmes. C’est elle sa vraie mère.
28 Tout Israël apprit le jugement que le roi avait prononcé et tous furent remplis de crainte à son égard, car ils comprirent qu’il avait reçu la sagesse de Dieu pour rendre la justice.
