1 Kings 2:2-4
Contemporary English Version
2 My son, I will soon die, as everyone must. But I want you to be strong and brave. 3 Do what the Lord your God commands and follow his teachings. Obey everything written in the Law of Moses. Then you will be a success, no matter what you do or where you go. 4 You and your descendants must always faithfully obey the Lord. If you do, he will keep the solemn promise he made to me that someone from our family will always be king of Israel.

New International Version
2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,”(A) he said. “So be strong,(B) act like a man, 3 and observe(C) what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper(D) in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise(E) to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully(F) before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
