33 Ahab also made an Asherah pole; he[a] did more to anger the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

34 During Ahab’s reign,[b] Hiel the Bethelite rebuilt Jericho. Abiram, his firstborn son, died when he laid the foundation;[c] Segub, his youngest son, died when he erected its gates,[d] in keeping with the Lord’s message that he had spoken through Joshua son of Nun.[e]

34 In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.(C)
