17 Israel’s King Baasha went to war against Judah.(A) He built Ramah(B) in order to keep anyone from leaving or coming to King Asa of Judah. 18 So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple(C) and the treasuries of the royal palace and gave it to his servants. Then King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad(D) son of Tabrimmon son of Hezion king of Aram who lived in Damascus,(E) saying, 19 “There is a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father.(F) Look, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go and break your treaty with King Baasha of Israel(G) so that he will withdraw from me.”

20 Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel. He attacked Ijon,(H) Dan,(I) Abel-beth-maacah,(J) all Chinnereth,(K) and the whole land of Naphtali.(L) 21 When Baasha heard about it, he quit building Ramah and stayed in Tirzah.(M) 22 Then King Asa gave a command to everyone without exception in Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timbers Baasha had built it with. Then King Asa built Geba(N) of Benjamin and Mizpah(O) with them.

17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah(A) to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.

18 Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple(B) and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent(C) them to Ben-Hadad(D) son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 19 “Let there be a treaty(E) between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.”

20 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered(F) Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali. 21 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah(G) and withdrew to Tirzah.(H) 22 Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away from Ramah(I) the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa(J) built up Geba(K) in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.(L)
