⁷ Then Solomon built a high place for ^(A)Chemosh, the abhorrent idol of Moab, on the mountain that is ^[a]east of Jerusalem, and for ^(B)Molech, the abhorrent idol of the sons of Ammon. ⁸ He also did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

²³ For they, too, built for themselves ^(A)high places, ^(B)memorial stones, and ^[a](C)Asherim on every high hill and ^(D)under every luxuriant tree.

^2 [a]And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of the Lord his God, ³ for he removed ^(A)the foreign altars and ^(B)high places, tore down the memorial stones, cut down the ^[b](C)Asherim, ⁴ and commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers and to ^[c]comply with the Law and the commandment. ⁵ He also removed the high places and the ^(D)incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was undisturbed under him.
