8 Yet I am writing you a new commandment that is true in him and in you, because[a] the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.(A) 9 Whoever says, “I am in the light,” while hating a brother or sister, is still in the darkness.(B) 10 Whoever loves a brother or sister abides in the light, and in such a person[b] there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates a brother or sister is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know the way to go, because the darkness has brought on blindness.(C)

8 Yet I am writing you a new command;(A) its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing(B) and the true light(C) is already shining.(D)
9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister[a](E) is still in the darkness.(F) 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister[b] lives in the light,(G) and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.(H) 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister(I) is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.(J) They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.(K)
