13 I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is (A)from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children,
Because you have (B)known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because (C)you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one.
Do Not Love the World
15 (D)Do not love the world or the things in the world. (E)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, (F)the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And (G)the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Deceptions of the Last Hour
18 (H)Little children, (I)it is the last hour; and as you have heard that (J)the[a] Antichrist is coming, (K)even now many antichrists have come, by which we know (L)that it is the last hour. 19 (M)They went out from us, but they were not of us; for (N)if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out (O)that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

On Not Loving the World
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world.(J) If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them.(K) 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh,(L) the lust of the eyes,(M) and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away,(N) but whoever does the will of God(O) lives forever.
Warnings Against Denying the Son
18 Dear children, this is the last hour;(P) and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming,(Q) even now many antichrists have come.(R) This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us,(S) but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.(T)
