New International Version
11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister(A) is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.(B) They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.(C)
Reasons for Writing
12 I am writing to you, dear children,(D)
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.(E)
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.(F)
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome(G) the evil one.(H)
14 I write to you, dear children,(I)
because you know the Father.
I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.(J)
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,(K)
and the word of God(L) lives in you,(M)
and you have overcome the evil one.(N)
On Not Loving the World
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world.(O) If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them.(P) 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh,(Q) the lust of the eyes,(R) and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away,(S) but whoever does the will of God(T) lives forever.
Warnings Against Denying the Son
18 Dear children, this is the last hour;(U) and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming,(V) even now many antichrists have come.(W) This is how we know it is the last hour.

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
