Or (A)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (B)inherit the kingdom of God? (C)Do not be deceived; (D)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will (E)inherit the kingdom of God. 11 (F)Such were some of you; but you were (G)washed, but you were (H)sanctified, but you were (I)justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

The Body Is the Lord’s

12 (J)All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 (K)Food is for the [b]stomach and the [c]stomach is for food, but God will (L)do away with both [d]of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but (M)for the Lord, and (N)the Lord is for the body. 14 Now God has not only (O)raised the Lord, but (P)will also raise us up through His power. 15 (Q)Do you not know that (R)your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? (S)May it never be! 16 Or (T)do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “(U)The two shall become one flesh.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is (V)one spirit with Him. 18 (W)Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the [e]immoral man sins against his own body. 19 Or (X)do you not know that (Y)your body is a [f]temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from [g]God, and that (Z)you are not your own? 20 For (AA)you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in (AB)your body.

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God?(A) Do not be deceived:(B) Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers(C) nor men who have sex with men[a](D) 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers(E) will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were.(F) But you were washed,(G) you were sanctified,(H) you were justified(I) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Sexual Immorality

12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.(J) “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.”(K) The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord,(L) and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead,(M) and he will raise us also.(N) 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?(O) Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[b](P) 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.[c](Q)

18 Flee from sexual immorality.(R) All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.(S) 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples(T) of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;(U) 20 you were bought at a price.(V) Therefore honor God with your bodies.(W)

Take Care with Your Liberty

Now concerning (A)things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have (B)knowledge. Knowledge [a](C)makes arrogant, but love (D)edifies. (E)If anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet (F)known as he ought to know; but if anyone loves God, he (G)is known by Him.

Therefore concerning the eating of (H)things sacrificed to idols, we know that [b]there is (I)no such thing as an idol in the world, and that (J)there is no God but one. For even if (K)there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, yet for us (L)there is but one God, (M)the Father, (N)from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and (O)one Lord, Jesus Christ, (P)by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

However not all men (Q)have this knowledge; but (R)some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. But (S)food will not [c]commend us to God; we are neither [d]the worse if we do not eat, nor [e]the better if we do eat. But (T)take care that this [f]liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the (U)weak. 10 For if someone sees you, who have (V)knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat (W)things sacrificed to idols? 11 For through (X)your knowledge he who is weak (Y)is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. 12 (Z)And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin (AA)against Christ. 13 Therefore, (AB)if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols

Now about food sacrificed to idols:(A) We know that “We all possess knowledge.”(B) But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. Those who think they know something(C) do not yet know as they ought to know.(D) But whoever loves God is known by God.[a](E)

So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols:(F) We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world”(G) and that “There is no God but one.”(H) For even if there are so-called gods,(I) whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), yet for us there is but one God,(J) the Father,(K) from whom all things came(L) and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord,(M) Jesus Christ, through whom all things came(N) and through whom we live.

But not everyone possesses this knowledge.(O) Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak,(P) it is defiled. But food does not bring us near to God;(Q) we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block(R) to the weak.(S) 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?(T) 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed(U) by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them(V) in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.(W) 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.(X)
