1 Corinthians 14:11-13

New American Standard Bible

¹¹So if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be ^(A)unintelligible to the one who speaks, and the one who speaks will be unintelligible ^[a]to me. ¹²So you too, since you are eager to possess ^[b]spiritual gifts, strive to excel for the ^(B)edification of the church.

¹³Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue is to pray that he may interpret.

¹¹If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me.^(A) ¹²So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit,^(B) try to excel in those that build up^(C) the church.
