Thanksgiving and Prayer

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus(A) and your love for all God’s people,(B) 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you,(C) remembering you in my prayers.(D) 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,(E) may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom(F) and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened(G) in order that you may know the hope to which he has called(H) you, the riches(I) of his glorious inheritance(J) in his holy people,(K) 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power(L) is the same as the mighty strength(M) 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead(N) and seated him at his right hand(O) in the heavenly realms,(P) 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion,(Q) and every name(R) that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.(S) 22 And God placed all things under his feet(T) and appointed him to be head(U) over everything for the church, 23 which is his body,(V) the fullness of him(W) who fills everything in every way.(X)

Made Alive in Christ

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,(Y) in which you used to live(Z) when you followed the ways of this world(AA) and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air,(AB) the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.(AC) All of us also lived among them at one time,(AD) gratifying the cravings of our flesh[b](AE) and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us,(AF) God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions(AG)—it is by grace you have been saved.(AH) And God raised us up with Christ(AI) and seated us with him(AJ) in the heavenly realms(AK) in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace,(AL) expressed in his kindness(AM) to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace(AN) you have been saved,(AO) through faith(AP)—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works,(AQ) so that no one can boast.(AR) 10 For we are God’s handiwork,(AS) created(AT) in Christ Jesus to do good works,(AU) which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Jew and Gentile Reconciled Through Christ

11 Therefore, remember that formerly(AV) you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)(AW) 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners(AX) to the covenants of the promise,(AY) without hope(AZ) and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once(BA) were far away have been brought near(BB) by the blood of Christ.(BC)

14 For he himself is our peace,(BD) who has made the two groups one(BE) and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh(BF) the law with its commands and regulations.(BG) His purpose was to create in himself one(BH) new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross,(BI) by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace(BJ) to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.(BK) 18 For through him we both have access(BL) to the Father(BM) by one Spirit.(BN)

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers,(BO) but fellow citizens(BP) with God’s people and also members of his household,(BQ) 20 built(BR) on the foundation(BS) of the apostles and prophets,(BT) with Christ Jesus himself(BU) as the chief cornerstone.(BV) 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple(BW) in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.(BX)

15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

15 Therefore I also, (A)after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 (B)do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that (C)the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, (D)may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 (E)the eyes of your [a]understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is (F)the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, (G)according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when (H)He raised Him from the dead and (I)seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 (J)far above all (K)principality[b] and [c]power and [d]might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

22 And (L)He put all things under His feet, and gave Him (M)to be head over all things to the church, 23 (N)which is His body, (O)the fullness of Him (P)who fills all in all.

By Grace Through Faith

And (Q)you He made alive, (R)who were dead in trespasses and sins, (S)in which you once walked according to the [e]course of this world, according to (T)the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in (U)the sons of disobedience, (V)among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in (W)the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and (X)were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

But God, (Y)who is rich in mercy, because of His (Z)great love with which He loved us, (AA)even when we were dead in trespasses, (AB)made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together (AC)in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in (AD)His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (AE)For by grace you have been saved (AF)through faith, and that not of yourselves; (AG)it is the gift of God, not of (AH)works, lest anyone should (AI)boast. 10 For we are (AJ)His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Brought Near by His Blood

11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called (AK)the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Christ Our Peace

14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one (AL)new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might (AM)reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby (AN)putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For (AO)through Him we both have access (AP)by one Spirit to the Father.

Christ Our Cornerstone

19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been (AQ)built (AR)on the foundation of the (AS)apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being (AT)the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into (AU)a holy temple in the Lord, 22 (AV)in whom you also are being built together for a (AW)dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
