30 That is why many of you are weak and sick. Some of you have even died because of this. 31 But if we think carefully about ourselves, then God will not need to punish us.
32 But the Lord does need to punish us sometimes. When he does that, he is teaching us not to do wrong things. Then we will not be guilty, like other people who do not know God.

30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.(A) 31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.(B) 32 Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined(C) so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.(D)
