²⁶For as often as you shall eat this bread, and drink the chalice, you shall shew the death of the Lord, until he come.

²⁷Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord.

²⁸But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice.

²⁹For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.

³⁰Therefore are there many infirm and weak among you, and many sleep.

Examine Yourself

²⁷Therefore whoever eats ^(B)this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and ^[a]blood of the Lord. ²⁸But ^(C)let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. ²⁹For he who eats and drinks ^[b]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the ^[c]Lord’s body. ³⁰For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many ^[d]sleep.

²⁷So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.^(B) ²⁸Everyone ought to examine themselves^(C) before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. ²⁹For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. ³⁰That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.^(D)
