Israel and Judah’s Descendants

These are the sons of Israel:

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

The sons of Judah:

Er, Onan and Shelah—the three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite woman. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Adonai, so He put him to death. Then Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

The sons of Perez:

Hezron and Hamul.

The sons of Zerah:

Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Dara, five in all.

The sons of Carmi:

Achar, the troubler of Israel who violated the ban of devoted things.

The sons of Ethan: Azariah.

The sons of Hezron who were born to him:

Jerahmeel, Ram and Chelubai.

10 Ram fathered Amminadab;

Amminadab fathered Nahshon, the leader of the children of Judah.

11 Nahshon fathered Salma;

Salma fathered Boaz.

12 Boaz fathered Obed;

Obed fathered Jesse.

13 Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab was second, Shimea third, 14 Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth, 15 Ozem sixth, and David seventh. 16 Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The three sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab and Asahel. 17 Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite.

18 Caleb son of Hezron fathered children by Azubah his wife and by Jerioth. These were her sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. 20 Hur fathered Uri and Uri fathered Bezalel.

21 Afterward Hezron had relations with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead—he had married her when he was 60 years old—and she bore him Segub.

22 Segub fathered Jair, who had 23 cities in the land of Gilead. 23 But Geshur and Aram took the towns of Jair from them, along with Kenath and its surrounding villages, 60 towns. All these were the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

24 After the death of Hezron in Caleb-ephrath, Abijah, Hezron’s wife, bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.

25 Now the sons of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron: Ram the firstborn, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem and Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel had another wife whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.

27 The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel:

Maaz, Jamin and Eker.

28 The sons of Onam:

Shammai and Jada.

The sons of Shammai:

Nadab and Abishur.

29 The name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid.

30 The sons of Nadab:

Seled and Appaim, but Seled died without children.

31 The sons of Appaim:

Ishi, who was the father of Sheshan.

Sheshan was the father of Ahlai.

32 The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai:

Jeter and Jonathan—Jeter died without sons.

33 The sons of Jonathan:

Pelet and Zaza.

These were the sons of Jerahmeel.

34 Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. But Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha. 35 So Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant as a wife, and she bore him Attai. 36 Then Attai fathered Nathan, and Nathan fathered Zabad. 37 Zabad fathered Ephlal and Ephlal fathered Obed. 38 Obed fathered Jehu, and Jehu fathered Azariah. 39 Azariah fathered Helez, and Helez fathered Eleasah. 40 Eleasah fathered Sisamai, and Sisamai fathered Shallum. 41 Shallum fathered Jekamiah, and Jekamiah fathered Elishama.

42 Now the sons of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel:

Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and his son Mareshah the father of Hebron.

43 The sons of Hebron:

Korah, Tappuah, Rekem and Shema.

44 Shema fathered Raham, the father of Jorkeam. Rekem fathered Shammai. 45 The son of Shammai was Maon and Maon was the father of Beth-Zur.

46 Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Haran, Moza and Gazez; and Haran fathered Gazez.

47 The sons of Jahdai:

Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph.

48 Maacah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah. 49 She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheba the father of Machbenah and the father of Gibea. The daughter of Caleb was Achsah. 50 These were the descendants of Caleb.

The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrath:

Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim, 51 Salma the father of Beth-lehem and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.

52 Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had sons:

Haroeh, half of the Menuhites. 53 The clans of Kiriath-jearim: the Itrites, the Puhtites, the Shumathites, the Mishraites; from them came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.

54 The sons of Salma:

Beth-lehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites, 55 and the clans of scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. These were the Kenites who descended from Hammath, the father of the Rechabites.

בְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה עֵ֤ר וְאוֹנָן֙ וְשֵׁלָ֔ה שְׁלוֹשָׁה֙ נ֣וֹלַד ל֔וֹ מִבַּת־שׁ֖וּעַ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑ית וַיְהִ֞י עֵ֣ר׀ בְּכ֣וֹר יְהוּדָ֗ה רַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וַיְמִיתֵֽהוּ׃ ס

וְתָמָר֙ כַּלָּת֔וֹ יָ֥לְדָה לּ֖וֹ אֶת־פֶּ֣רֶץ וְאֶת־זָ֑רַח כָּל־בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ ס

בְּנֵי־פֶ֖רֶץ חֶצְר֥וֹן וְחָמֽוּל׃ ס

וּבְנֵ֣י זֶ֗רַח זִ֠מְרִי וְאֵיתָ֧ן וְהֵימָ֛ן וְכַלְכֹּ֥ל וָדָ֖רַע כֻּלָּ֥ם חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ ס

וּבְנֵ֖י כַּרְמִ֑י עָכָר֙ עוֹכֵ֣ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר מָעַ֖ל בַּחֵֽרֶם׃ ס

וּבְנֵ֥י אֵיתָ֖ן עֲזַרְיָֽה׃

וּבְנֵ֥י חֶצְר֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר נוֹלַד־ל֑וֹ אֶת־יְרַחְמְאֵ֥ל וְאֶת־רָ֖ם וְאֶת־כְּלוּבָֽי׃

10 וְרָ֖ם הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־עַמִּינָדָ֑ב וְעַמִּינָדָב֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־נַחְשׁ֔וֹן נְשִׂ֖יא בְּנֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

11 וְנַחְשׁוֹן֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־שַׂלְמָ֔א וְשַׂלְמָ֖א הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־בֹּֽעַז׃

12 וּבֹ֙עַז֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־עוֹבֵ֔ד וְעוֹבֵ֖ד הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־יִשָֽׁי׃

13 וְאִישַׁ֛י הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־בְּכֹר֖וֹ אֶת־אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַאֲבִינָדָב֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וְשִׁמְעָ֖א הַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃

14 נְתַנְאֵל֙ הָֽרְבִיעִ֔י רַדַּ֖י הַחֲמִישִֽׁי׃

15 אֹ֚צֶם הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י דָּוִ֖יד הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃

16 ׳וְאַחְיֹתֵיהֶם׳ ״וְאַחְיוֹתֵיהֶ֖ם״ צְרוּיָ֣ה וַאֲבִיגָ֑יִל וּבְנֵ֣י צְרוּיָ֗ה אַבְשַׁ֛י וְיוֹאָ֥ב וַעֲשָׂה־אֵ֖ל שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃

17 וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל יָלְדָ֖ה אֶת־עֲמָשָׂ֑א וַאֲבִ֣י עֲמָשָׂ֔א יֶ֖תֶר הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִֽי׃

18 וְכָלֵ֣ב בֶּן־חֶצְר֗וֹן הוֹלִ֛יד אֶת־עֲזוּבָ֥ה אִשָּׁ֖ה וְאֶת־יְרִיע֑וֹת וְאֵ֣לֶּה בָנֶ֔יהָ יֵ֥שֶׁר וְשׁוֹבָ֖ב וְאַרְדּֽוֹן׃

19 וַתָּ֖מָת עֲזוּבָ֑ה וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֤וֹ כָלֵב֙ אֶת־אֶפְרָ֔ת וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־חֽוּר׃

20 וְחוּר֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־אוּרִ֔י וְאוּרִ֖י הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־בְּצַלְאֵֽל׃ ס

21 וְאַחַ֗ר בָּ֤א חֶצְרוֹן֙ אֶל־בַּת־מָכִיר֙ אֲבִ֣י גִלְעָ֔ד וְה֣וּא לְקָחָ֔הּ וְה֖וּא בֶּן־שִׁשִּׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־שְׂגֽוּב׃

22 וּשְׂג֖וּב הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־יָאִ֑יר וַֽיְהִי־ל֗וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וְשָׁלוֹשׁ֙ עָרִ֔ים בְּאֶ֖רֶץ הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

23 וַיִּקַּ֣ח גְּשֽׁוּר־וַ֠אֲרָם אֶת־חַוֺּ֨ת יָאִ֧יר מֵאִתָּ֛ם אֶת־קְנָ֥ת וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֶ֖יהָ שִׁשִּׁ֣ים עִ֑יר כָּל־אֵ֕לֶּה בְּנֵ֖י מָכִ֥יר אֲבִי־גִלְעָֽד׃

24 וְאַחַ֥ר מוֹת־חֶצְר֖וֹן בְּכָלֵ֣ב אֶפְרָ֑תָה וְאֵ֤שֶׁת חֶצְרוֹן֙ אֲבִיָּ֔ה וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֶת־אַשְׁח֖וּר אֲבִ֥י תְקֽוֹעַ׃

25 וַיִּהְי֧וּ בְנֵי־יְרַחְמְאֵ֛ל בְּכ֥וֹר חֶצְר֖וֹן הַבְּכ֣וֹר׀ רָ֑ם וּבוּנָ֥ה וָאֹ֛רֶן וָאֹ֖צֶם אֲחִיָּֽה׃

26 וַתְּהִ֨י אִשָּׁ֥ה אַחֶ֛רֶת לִֽירַחְמְאֵ֖ל וּשְׁמָ֣הּ עֲטָרָ֑ה הִ֖יא אֵ֥ם אוֹנָֽם׃ ס

27 וַיִּהְי֥וּ בְנֵי־רָ֖ם בְּכ֣וֹר יְרַחְמְאֵ֑ל מַ֥עַץ וְיָמִ֖ין וָעֵֽקֶר׃

28 וַיִּהְי֥וּ בְנֵי־אוֹנָ֖ם שַׁמַּ֣י וְיָדָ֑ע וּבְנֵ֣י שַׁמַּ֔י נָדָ֖ב וַאֲבִישֽׁוּר׃

29 וְשֵׁ֛ם אֵ֥שֶׁת אֲבִישׁ֖וּר אֲבִיהָ֑יִל וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֔וֹ אֶת־אַחְבָּ֖ן וְאֶת־מוֹלִֽיד׃

30 וּבְנֵ֥י נָדָ֖ב סֶ֣לֶד וְאַפָּ֑יִם וַיָּ֥מָת סֶ֖לֶד לֹ֥א בָנִֽים׃ ס

31 וּבְנֵ֥י אַפַּ֖יִם יִשְׁעִ֑י וּבְנֵ֤י יִשְׁעִי֙ שֵׁשָׁ֔ן וּבְנֵ֥י שֵׁשָׁ֖ן אַחְלָֽי׃

32 וּבְנֵ֤י יָדָע֙ אֲחִ֣י שַׁמַּ֔י יֶ֖תֶר וְיוֹנָתָ֑ן וַיָּ֥מָת יֶ֖תֶר לֹ֥א בָנִֽים׃ ס

33 וּבְנֵ֥י יוֹנָתָ֖ן פֶּ֣לֶת וְזָזָ֑א אֵ֥לֶּה הָי֖וּ בְּנֵ֥י יְרַחְמְאֵֽל׃

34 וְלֹֽא־הָיָ֧ה לְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן בָּנִ֖ים כִּ֣י אִם־בָּנ֑וֹת וּלְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן עֶ֥בֶד מִצְרִ֖י וּשְׁמ֥וֹ יַרְחָֽע׃

35 וַיִּתֵּ֨ן שֵׁשָׁ֧ן אֶת־בִּתּ֛וֹ לְיַרְחָ֥ע עַבְדּ֖וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֑ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ אֶת־עַתָּֽי׃

36 וְעַתַּי֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־נָתָ֔ן וְנָתָ֖ן הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־זָבָֽד׃

37 וְזָבָד֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־אֶפְלָ֔ל וְאֶפְלָ֖ל הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־עוֹבֵֽד׃

38 וְעוֹבֵד֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־יֵה֔וּא וְיֵה֖וּא הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָֽה׃

39 וַעֲזַרְיָה֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־חָ֔לֶץ וְחֶ֖לֶץ הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֶלְעָשָֽׂה׃

40 וְאֶלְעָשָׂה֙ הֹלִ֣יד אֶת־סִֽסְמָ֔י וְסִסְמַ֖י הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־שַׁלּֽוּם׃

41 וְשַׁלּוּם֙ הוֹלִ֣יד אֶת־יְקַמְיָ֔ה וִֽיקַמְיָ֖ה הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־אֱלִישָׁמָֽע׃

42 וּבְנֵ֤י כָלֵב֙ אֲחִ֣י יְרַחְמְאֵ֔ל מֵישָׁ֥ע בְּכֹר֖וֹ ה֣וּא אֲבִי־זִ֑יף וּבְנֵ֥י מָרֵשָׁ֖ה אֲבִ֥י חֶבְרֽוֹן׃

43 וּבְנֵ֖י חֶבְר֑וֹן קֹ֥רַח וְתַפֻּ֖חַ וְרֶ֥קֶם וָשָֽׁמַע׃

44 וְשֶׁ֣מַע הוֹלִ֔יד אֶת־רַ֖חַם אֲבִ֣י יָרְקֳעָ֑ם וְרֶ֖קֶם הוֹלִ֥יד אֶת־שַׁמָּֽי׃

45 וּבֶן־שַׁמַּ֖י מָע֑וֹן וּמָע֖וֹן אֲבִ֥י בֵֽית־צֽוּר׃

46 וְעֵיפָה֙ פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ כָּלֵ֔ב יָֽלְדָ֛ה אֶת־חָרָ֥ן וְאֶת־מוֹצָ֖א וְאֶת־גָּזֵ֑ז וְחָרָ֖ן הֹלִ֥יד אֶת־גָּזֵֽז׃ ס

47 וּבְנֵ֖י יָהְדָּ֑י רֶ֧גֶם וְיוֹתָ֛ם וְגֵישָׁ֥ן וָפֶ֖לֶט וְעֵיפָ֥ה וָשָֽׁעַף׃

48 פִּלֶ֤גֶשׁ כָּלֵב֙ מַעֲכָ֔ה יָ֥לַד שֶׁ֖בֶר וְאֶֽת־תִּרְחֲנָֽה׃

49 וַתֵּ֗לֶד שַׁ֚עַף אֲבִ֣י מַדְמַנָּ֔ה אֶת־שְׁוָ֛א אֲבִ֥י מַכְבֵּנָ֖ה וַאֲבִ֣י גִבְעָ֑א וּבַת־כָּלֵ֖ב עַכְסָֽה׃ ס

50 אֵ֤לֶּה הָיוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י כָלֵ֔ב בֶּן־ח֖וּר בְּכ֣וֹר אֶפְרָ֑תָה שׁוֹבָ֕ל אֲבִ֖י קִרְיַ֥ת יְעָרִֽים׃

51 שַׂלְמָא֙ אֲבִ֣י בֵֽית־לָ֔חֶם חָרֵ֖ף אֲבִ֥י בֵית־גָּדֵֽר׃

52 וַיִּהְי֤וּ בָנִים֙ לְשׁוֹבָ֔ל אֲבִ֖י קִרְיַ֣ת יְעָרִ֑ים הָרֹאֶ֖ה חֲצִ֥י הַמְּנֻחֽוֹת׃

53 וּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת֙ קִרְיַ֣ת יְעָרִ֔ים הַיִּתְרִי֙ וְהַפּוּתִ֔י וְהַשֻּׁמָתִ֖י וְהַמִּשְׁרָעִ֑י מֵאֵ֗לֶּה יָצְאוּ֙ הַצָּ֣רְעָתִ֔י וְהָאֶשְׁתָּ֖אֻֽלִֽי׃ ס

54 בְּנֵ֣י שַׂלְמָ֗א בֵּ֥ית לֶ֙חֶם֙ וּנְט֣וֹפָתִ֔י עַטְר֖וֹת בֵּ֣ית יוֹאָ֑ב וַחֲצִ֥י הַמָּנַחְתִּ֖י הַצָּרְעִֽי׃

55 וּמִשְׁפְּח֤וֹת סֹפְרִים֙ ׳יֹשְׁבוּ׳ ״יֹשְׁבֵ֣י״ יַעְבֵּ֔ץ תִּרְעָתִ֥ים שִׁמְעָתִ֖ים שׂוּכָתִ֑ים הֵ֚מָּה הַקִּינִ֣ים הַבָּאִ֔ים מֵחַמַּ֖ת אֲבִ֥י בֵית־רֵכָֽב׃ ס

Zeruiah’s(W) three sons were Abishai, Joab(X) and Asahel. 17 Abigail was the mother of Amasa,(Y) whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.

Caleb Son of Hezron

18 Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah (and by Jerioth). These were her sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb(Z) married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. 20 Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezalel.(AA)

21 Later, Hezron, when he was sixty years old, married the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead.(AB) He made love to her, and she bore him Segub. 22 Segub was the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead. 23 (But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair,[f](AC) as well as Kenath(AD) with its surrounding settlements—sixty towns.) All these were descendants of Makir the father of Gilead.

24 After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Abijah the wife of Hezron bore him Ashhur(AE) the father[g] of Tekoa.

Jerahmeel Son of Hezron

25 The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron:

Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem and[h] Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.

27 The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel:

Maaz, Jamin and Eker.

28 The sons of Onam:

Shammai and Jada.

The sons of Shammai:

Nadab and Abishur.

42 The sons of Caleb(AG) the brother of Jerahmeel:

54 The descendants of Salma:

Bethlehem, the Netophathites,(AO) Atroth Beth Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites, 55 and the clans of scribes[j] who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, Shimeathites and Sucathites. These are the Kenites(AP) who came from Hammath,(AQ) the father of the Rekabites.[k](AR)
