3 Judah's sons were: Er, Onan and Shelah. Their mother was Bath-shua, who was a woman from Canaan. Judah's firstborn son Er did things that the Lord saw were evil.[a] So the Lord killed him.
4 Judah had sex with Er's widow, Tamar. She gave birth to two sons for Judah, Perez and Zerah. Judah was the father of five sons.
5 Perez's sons were: Hezron and Hamul.

- 2:3 When we write Lord like this, it is a special name for God. Sometimes people write it as ‘Yahweh’, or as ‘Jehovah’. It is his own name that he told Moses. See Exodus 3:14. It means ‘I am who I am’. This shows that God has always been there and he always will be there.

Er, Onan and Shelah.(C) These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua.(D) Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.(E) 4 Judah’s daughter-in-law(F) Tamar(G) bore Perez(H) and Zerah to Judah. He had five sons in all.
