^3 (A)The sons of Judah: ^(B)Er, Onan and Shelah; these three Bath-shua the Canaanite bore to him. Now Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death.

38 It happened at that time that Judah went down from his brothers and ^(A)turned aside to a certain ^(B)Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

⁵ Yet again she bore a son, and she called his name ^(A)Shelah. Judah^[a] was in Chezib when she bore him.

¹² The sons of ^(A)Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but ^(B)Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan); and the sons of ^(C)Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

²⁰ And the sons of Judah according to their clans were: of Shelah, the clan of the Shelanites; of Perez, the clan of the Perezites; of Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites.
