⁹ So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take and eat it; it will be bitter in your stomach, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”^(A)

¹⁰ Then I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I ate it, my stomach became bitter.^{(B) 11} And they said to me, “You must prophesy again about^[a] many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”^(C)

13 And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea.^(A) It had ten horns and seven heads. On its horns were ten crowns,^[a](B) and on its heads were blasphemous names.^[b](C)

³ One of its heads appeared to be fatally wounded, but its fatal wound was healed.

The whole earth was amazed and followed the beast.^(A)

⁴ They worshiped the dragon^(A) because he gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast?^(B) Who is able to wage war against it?”

⁷ And it was permitted to wage war against the saints and to conquer them.^(A) It was also given authority^(B) over every tribe, people, language, and nation.^(C)

The Beast from the Earth

¹¹ Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb,^[a](A) but it spoke like a dragon.

¹⁴ It deceives those who live on the earth^(A) because of the signs that it is permitted to perform in the presence of the beast,^(B) telling those who live on the earth to make an image^[a] of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

The Third Trumpet

¹⁰ The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from heaven.^(A) It fell on a third of the rivers and springs of water.

¹¹ The name of the star is Wormwood,^(A) and a third of the waters became wormwood. So, many of the people died from the waters, because they had been made bitter.
