Acts 1:6-14

New International Version

⁶Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore^(A) the kingdom to Israel?”

⁷He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.^(B) ⁸But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;^(C) and you will be my witnesses^(D) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,^(E) and to the ends of the earth.”^(F)

⁹After he said this, he was taken up^(G) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

¹⁰They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white^(H) stood beside them. ¹¹“Men of Galilee,”^(I) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back^(J) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

¹²Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem^(K) from the hill called the Mount of Olives,^(L) a Sabbath day’s walk^[a] from the city. ¹³When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room^(M) where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.^(N) ¹⁴They all joined together constantly in prayer,^(O) along with the women^(P) and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.^(Q)

17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven^(A) and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come.^(B) Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.^(C) ²For you granted him authority over all people^(D) that he might give eternal life^(E) to all those you have given him.^(F) ³Now this is eternal life: that they know you,^(G) the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.^(H) ⁴I have brought you glory^(I) on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.^(J) ⁵And now, Father, glorify me^(K) in your presence with the glory I had with you^(L) before the world began.^(M)
