Om godgørenhed
6 Pas på jeres motiver, så I ikke gør gode gerninger, for at andre skal lægge mærke til jer. Så mister I nemlig den belønning, der kommer fra jeres Far i Himlen.
2 Når du giver en gave til en, der er i nød, så vær ikke som de selvretfærdige, der plejer at udbasunere deres gode gerninger i synagoger og på gadehjørner, for at folk skal rose dem. Det siger jeg jer: De har allerede fået deres belønning. 3-4 Nej, når du gør en god gerning, så gør det i al stilhed. Lad ikke den venstre hånd vide, hvad den højre gør. Så vil du få løn af din himmelske Far, for han ser det, som er skjult for alle andre.
Om bøn(A)
5 Når I beder, skal I ikke være som de selvretfærdige hyklere. De elsker at stille sig op og bede i synagogerne og på gadehjørnerne, for at folk skal lægge mærke til dem. Det siger jeg jer: De har allerede fået deres fulde løn. 6 Nej, når du beder, så gå ind i et rum, hvor du kan lukke døren efter dig, og bed til din Far, som er i det skjulte. Og din Far, for hvem intet er skjult, vil belønne dig.
7 Når I beder, skal I ikke gøre som de mennesker, der ikke kender Gud. De fremsiger de samme bønner om og om igen, for de tror, at deres bønner bliver hørt på grund af de mange ord. 8 Sådan skal I ikke gøre, for jeres Far ved, hvad I trænger til, før I beder ham om det. 9 Bed derfor på følgende måde:
Far i Himlen.
Må du blive æret.
10 Må dit rige bryde igennem.
Må din vilje ske på jorden,
som den sker i Himlen.
11 Giv os det, vi har brug for i dag.
12 Tilgiv os, hvor vi har svigtet,
ligesom vi selv har tilgivet dem, der har svigtet os.
13 Lad os ikke bukke under for fristelsen,[a]
men red os fra den Ondes angreb.[b]
14 Hvis I tilgiver dem, der har gjort noget forkert mod jer, vil jeres Far i Himlen også tilgive jer. 15 Men hvis I nægter at tilgive, vil han heller ikke tilgive jer.
Om faste
16 Når I faster, skal I ikke tage en bedrøvet mine på, sådan som de selvretfærdige gør. De forsømmer deres udseende, så folk rigtig kan se, at de faster. Det siger jeg jer: De har fået deres fulde løn! 17 Nej, når du faster, så red dit hår og vask dit ansigt, som du plejer, 18 så ingen kan se, at du faster. Lad det være en hemmelighed mellem dig og din Far i Himlen—og din Far, som kender alle hemmeligheder, vil belønne dig.
Om den himmelske rigdom og lyset fra Jesus(B)
19 I skal ikke samle jer rigdomme her på jorden, hvor de let kan blive ødelagt eller stjålet. 20 Nej, saml jer rigdomme i Himlen, hvor intet mister sin værdi, og hvor intet bliver stjålet. 21 Der, hvor du har dine rigdomme, vil også dine tanker være.
22 Øjet er som en lampe, der bringer lys til dit indre. Hvis du har et åbent og oprigtigt sind, vil dit indre fyldes af mit lys. 23 Men hvis du har et lukket og ondt sind, vil dit indre fyldes af mørke. Pas på ikke at lukke af for mit lys, for så bliver dit liv ét stort mørke.[c]
24 Ingen kan tjene to herrer. Enten vil man hade den ene og elske den anden, eller man vil satse på den ene og ignorere den anden. I kan ikke tjene både den sande Gud og pengeguden.[d]
Om ikke at bekymre sig(C)
25 Det er derfor, jeg siger, at I ikke skal bekymre jer for, om I nu også har mad og drikke og tøj at tage på. Er livet ikke mere end maden og tøjet? 26 Se på fuglene! De hverken sår, høster eller samler forråd, men jeres himmelske Far sørger for dem. Er I ikke mere værd end dem? 27 Kan nogen af jer mon ved at bekymre sig forlænge sit liv med bare en eneste dag?
28 Hvorfor bekymrer I jer for, om I har tøj at tage på? Se på blomsterne, hvordan de vokser uden at gøre sig anstrengelser. De hverken spinder eller væver. 29 Men det siger jeg jer: Ikke engang Salomon i al sin kongepragt var klædt så smukt som dem. 30 Når Gud nu sørger for blomsterne, der folder sig ud i dag og visner i morgen, skulle han så ikke sørge for jer? Hvor er jeres tro dog lille. 31 Lad derfor være med at bekymre jer for, hvordan I skal få noget at spise og få tøj på kroppen. 32 Lad de gudløse om det. Det er jo det, de går op i. Jeres himmelske Far ved godt, at I har brug for de ting. 33 Søg først Guds rige og gør hans vilje, så får I alt det andet i tilgift. 34 Lad altså være med at bekymre jer for, hvad der vil ske i morgen, for morgendagen skal nok komme med sine problemer helt uden hjælp. Dagen i dag har problemer nok i sig selv.

2 »Por eso, cuando des limosna[a] , no toques trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser alabados por los hombres(B) . En verdad les digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(C) . 3 Pero tú, cuando des limosna, que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace tu derecha, 4 para que tu limosna[b]sea en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará(D).
La oración
5 »Cuando ustedes oren, no sean como los hipócritas; porque a ellos les gusta ponerse en pie y orar en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles(E) , para ser vistos por los hombres[c](F) . En verdad les digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(G) . 6 Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y cuando hayas cerrado la puerta(H), ora a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará(I).

El ayuno
16 »Y cuando ayunen(T) , no pongan cara triste, como los hipócritas; porque ellos desfiguran[g] sus rostros para mostrar a los hombres que están ayunando. En verdad les digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(U) . 17 Pero tú, cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro(V), 18 para no hacer ver[h]a los hombres que ayunas, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará(W).
El verdadero tesoro
19 »No acumulen para sí tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones penetran[i] y roban(X) ; 20 sino acumulen[j]tesoros en el cielo(Y), donde ni la polilla ni la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones no penetran ni roban; 21 porque donde esté tu tesoro(Z), allí estará también tu corazón.
22 »(AA) La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; por eso, si tu ojo está sano[k] , todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz. 23 Pero si tu ojo está malo(AB), todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de oscuridad. Así que, si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡cuán grande será la oscuridad!
24 »Nadie puede servir a dos señores(AC) ; porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o apreciará a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a Dios y a las riquezas[l](AD) .

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(B)
Prayer(C)
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing(D) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(E) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(F) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(G) 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(H) before you ask him.

Fasting

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(T)
Treasures in Heaven(U)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,(V) where moths and vermin destroy,(W) and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,(X) where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.(Y) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Z)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(AA)
Do Not Worry(AB)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry(AC) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.(AD) Are you not much more valuable than they?(AE) 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?(AF)
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor(AG) was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?(AH) 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.(AI) 33 But seek first his kingdom(AJ) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(AK) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
