22 Øjet er som en lampe, der bringer lys til dit indre. Hvis du har et åbent og oprigtigt sind, vil dit indre fyldes af mit lys. 23 Men hvis du har et lukket og ondt sind, vil dit indre fyldes af mørke. Pas på ikke at lukke af for mit lys, for så bliver dit liv ét stort mørke.[a]

- 6,23 Den billedtale, som bruges her, er vanskelig at fortolke og oversætte, uden at meningen går tabt. Et „ondt øje” kan betyde grådighed, egoisme eller misundelse, mens det „gode øje”, som vi møder i Matt. 20,15, er det modsatte, nemlig gavmildhed. Her i 6,22 står der dog ikke „godt øje”, men et oprigtigt, ærligt, tillidsfuldt øje.

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[a] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[b] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
