The Commander of the Army of the Lord

¹³ And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, ^(A)a Man stood opposite him ^(B)with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?”

¹⁴ So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”

And Joshua ^(C)fell on his face to the earth and ^(D)worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”

¹⁵ Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, ^(E)“Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.

¹⁶ “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You ^(A)alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

Satan Thrown Out of Heaven

⁷ And war broke out in heaven: ^(A)Michael and his angels fought ^(B)with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, ⁸ but they ^[a]did not prevail, nor was a place found for ^[b]them in heaven any longer. ⁹ So ^(C)the great dragon was cast out, ^(D)that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, ^(E)who deceives the whole world; ^(F)he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹³ And Moses said to the people, ^(A)“Do not be afraid. ^(B)Stand still, and see the ^(C)salvation^[a] of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall ^(D)see again no more forever. ^14 (E)The Lord will fight for you, and you shall ^(F)hold^[b] your peace.”

¹⁵ But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. ¹⁶ And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! ¹⁷ Now the city shall be ^(A)doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only ^(B)Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because ^(C)she hid the messengers that we sent. ¹⁸ And you, ^(D)by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, ^(E)and trouble it. ¹⁹ But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are ^[a]consecrated to the Lord; they ^[b]shall come into the treasury of the Lord.”

²⁰ So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that ^(F)the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
