Faith in Action
11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for(A) and assurance about what we do not see.(B)
Hebrews 11:35-38
New International Version
35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again.(A) There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging,(B) and even chains and imprisonment.(C) 37 They were put to death by stoning;[a](D) they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword.(E) They went about in sheepskins and goatskins,(F) destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves(G) and in holes in the ground.

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(A) 25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.(B) 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man(C) is going to come(D) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.(E)
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
