Judgment on the House of Jeroboam
14 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick. 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, “Please arise, and disguise yourself, that they may not recognize you as the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Indeed, Ahijah the prophet is there, who told me that (A)I would be king over this people. 3 (B)Also take [a]with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what will become of the child.” 4 And Jeroboam’s wife did so; she arose (C)and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were [b]glazed by reason of his age.
5 Now the Lord had said to Ahijah, “Here is the wife of Jeroboam, coming to ask you something about her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you shall say to her; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.”
6 And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? For I have been sent to you with bad news. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: (D)“Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you ruler over My people Israel, 8 and (E)tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, (F)who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes; 9 but you have done more evil than all who were before you, (G)for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and (H)have cast Me behind your back— 10 therefore behold! (I)I will bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and (J)will cut off from Jeroboam every male in Israel, (K)bond and free; I will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as one takes away refuse until it is all gone. 11 The dogs shall eat (L)whoever belongs to Jeroboam and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field; for the Lord has spoken!” ’ 12 Arise therefore, go to your own house. (M)When your feet enter the city, the child shall die. 13 And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he is the only one of Jeroboam who shall [c]come to the grave, because in him (N)there is found something good toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
14 (O)“Moreover the Lord will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; [d]this is the day. What? Even now! 15 For the Lord will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will (P)uproot Israel from this (Q)good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them (R)beyond [e]the River, (S)because they have made their [f]wooden images, provoking the Lord to anger. 16 And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, (T)who sinned and who made Israel sin.”
17 Then Jeroboam’s wife arose and departed, and came to (U)Tirzah. (V)When she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. 18 And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, (W)according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through His servant Ahijah the prophet.
Death of Jeroboam
19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he (X)made war and how he reigned, indeed they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 20 The period that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years. So he rested with his fathers. Then (Y)Nadab his son reigned in his place.
Rehoboam Reigns in Judah(Z)
21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. (AA)Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king. He reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city (AB)which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there. (AC)His mother’s name was Naamah, an Ammonitess. 22 (AD)Now Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they (AE)provoked Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves (AF)high[g] places, (AG)sacred pillars, and (AH)wooden images on every high hill and (AI)under every green tree. 24 (AJ)And there were also [h]perverted persons in the land. They did according to all the (AK)abominations of the nations which the Lord had cast out before the children of (AL)Israel.
25 (AM)It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. 26 (AN)And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he took away everything. He also took away all the gold shields (AO)which Solomon had made. 27 Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and [i]committed them to the hands of the captains of the [j]guard, who guarded the doorway of the king’s house. 28 And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord, the guards carried them, then brought them back into the guardroom.
29 (AP)Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 30 And there was (AQ)war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days. 31 (AR)So Rehoboam [k]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. (AS)His mother’s name was Naamah, an Ammonitess. Then (AT)Abijam[l] his son reigned in his place.
Abijam Reigns in Judah(AU)
15 (AV)In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah. 2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. (AW)His mother’s name was (AX)Maachah the granddaughter of (AY)Abishalom. 3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; (AZ)his heart was not [m]loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. 4 Nevertheless (BA)for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, by setting up his son after him and by establishing Jerusalem; 5 because David (BB)did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, (BC)except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 6 (BD)And there was war between [n]Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. 7 (BE)Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
8 (BF)So Abijam [o]rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place.
Asa Reigns in Judah(BG)
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king over Judah. 10 And he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His grandmother’s name was Maachah the granddaughter of Abishalom. 11 (BH)Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did his father David. 12 (BI)And he banished the [p]perverted persons from the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 Also he removed (BJ)Maachah his grandmother from being queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of [q]Asherah. And Asa cut down her obscene image and (BK)burned it by the Brook Kidron. 14 (BL)But the [r]high places were not removed. Nevertheless Asa’s (BM)heart was loyal to the Lord all his days. 15 He also brought into the house of the Lord the things which his father (BN)had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated: silver and gold and utensils.
16 Now there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 17 And (BO)Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built (BP)Ramah, (BQ)that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 18 Then Asa took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and the treasuries of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And King Asa sent them to (BR)Ben-Hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in (BS)Damascus, saying, 19 “Let there be a treaty between you and me, as there was between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a present of silver and gold. Come and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
20 So Ben-Hadad heeded King Asa, and (BT)sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel. He attacked (BU)Ijon, (BV)Dan, (BW)Abel Beth Maachah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali. 21 Now it happened, when Baasha heard it, that he stopped building Ramah, and remained in (BX)Tirzah.
22 (BY)Then King Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted. And they took away the stones and timber of Ramah, which Baasha had used for building; and with them King Asa built (BZ)Geba of Benjamin, and (CA)Mizpah.
23 The rest of all the acts of Asa, all his might, all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? But (CB)in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet. 24 So Asa [s]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. (CC)Then (CD)Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place.
Nadab Reigns in Israel
25 Now (CE)Nadab the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in (CF)his sin by which he had made Israel sin.
27 (CG)Then Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed him at (CH)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 28 Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. 29 And it was so, when he became king, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according to (CI)the word of the Lord which He had spoken by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite, 30 (CJ)because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he had sinned and by which he had made Israel sin, because of his provocation with which he had provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.
31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 32 (CK)And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
Baasha Reigns in Israel
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in (CL)the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin.
The Reigns of Elah, Zimri, Omri, and Ahab
16 Then the word of the Lord came to (CM)Jehu the son of (CN)Hanani, against (CO)Baasha, saying: 2 (CP)“Inasmuch as I lifted you out of the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, and (CQ)you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made My people Israel sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins, 3 surely I will (CR)take[t] away the posterity of Baasha and the posterity of his house, and I will make your house like (CS)the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 4 The dogs shall eat (CT)whoever belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the fields.”
5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, what he did, and his might, (CU)are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 6 So Baasha [u]rested with his fathers and was buried in (CV)Tirzah. Then Elah his son reigned in his place.
7 And also the word of the Lord came by the prophet (CW)Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord in provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because (CX)he killed them.
Elah Reigns in Israel
8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha became king over Israel, and reigned two years in Tirzah. 9 (CY)Now his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him as he was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, (CZ)steward[v] of his house in Tirzah. 10 And Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.
11 Then it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he was seated on his throne, that he killed all the household of Baasha; he (DA)did not leave him one male, neither of his relatives nor of his friends. 12 Thus Zimri destroyed all the household of Baasha, (DB)according to the word of the Lord, which He spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet, 13 for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, by which they had sinned and by which they had made Israel sin, in provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger (DC)with their [w]idols.
14 Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Zimri Reigns in Israel
15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri had reigned in Tirzah seven days. And the people were encamped (DD)against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. 16 Now the people who were encamped heard it said, “Zimri has conspired and also has killed the king.” So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. 17 Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah. 18 And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was [x]taken, that he went into the citadel of the king’s house and burned the king’s house [y]down upon himself with fire, and died, 19 because of the sins which he had committed in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, (DE)in walking in the (DF)way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he had committed to make Israel sin.
20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the treason he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Omri Reigns in Israel
21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. 22 But the people who followed Omri prevailed over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri reigned. 23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel, and reigned twelve years. Six years he reigned in (DG)Tirzah. 24 And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver; then he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, (DH)Samaria,[z] after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill. 25 (DI)Omri did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all who were before him. 26 For he (DJ)walked in all the ways of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their (DK)idols.[aa]
27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and the might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
28 So Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. Then Ahab his son reigned in his place.
Ahab Reigns in Israel
29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30 Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. 31 And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (DL)that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the (DM)Sidonians; (DN)and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 32 Then he set up an altar for Baal in (DO)the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33 (DP)And Ahab made a [ab]wooden image. Ahab (DQ)did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. 34 In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation [ac]with Abiram his firstborn, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates, (DR)according to the word of the Lord, which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun.

Prophecy Against Jeroboam
14 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick. 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, “Arise, and disguise yourself, that it not be known that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go to (A)Shiloh. Behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, (B)who said of me that I should be king over this people. 3 (C)Take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what shall happen to the child.”
4 Jeroboam's wife did so. She arose and went to (D)Shiloh and came to the house of (E)Ahijah. Now (F)Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age. 5 And the Lord said to (G)Ahijah, “Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus shall you say to her.”
When she came, she pretended to be another woman. 6 But when (H)Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another? For I am charged with unbearable news for you. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: (I)“Because I exalted you from among the people and made you leader over my people Israel 8 and (J)tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, and yet you have not been (K)like my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart, doing only that which was right in my eyes, 9 but you have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and (L)made for yourself other gods and (M)metal images, provoking me to anger, and (N)have cast me behind your back, 10 therefore behold, I will bring harm upon the house of Jeroboam and (O)will cut off from Jeroboam every male, (P)both bond and free in Israel, and (Q)will burn up the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns up dung until it is all gone. 11 (R)Anyone belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat, for the Lord has spoken it.”’ 12 Arise therefore, go to your house. (S)When your feet enter the city, the child shall die. 13 And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him (T)there is found something pleasing to the Lord, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. 14 (U)Moreover, the Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam today. And henceforth, 15 the Lord will strike Israel as a reed is shaken in the water, and (V)root up Israel out of (W)this good land that he gave to their fathers and scatter them (X)beyond the Euphrates,[a] because they have made their (Y)Asherim, provoking the Lord to anger. 16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”
17 Then Jeroboam's wife arose and departed and came to (Z)Tirzah. And (AA)as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. 18 And all Israel buried him and mourned for him, (AB)according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.
The Death of Jeroboam
19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, (AC)how he warred and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 20 And the time that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years. And he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.
Rehoboam Reigns in Judah
21 (AD)Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, (AE)the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. (AF)His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonite. 22 (AG)And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they (AH)provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves (AI)high places (AJ)and pillars and (AK)Asherim on every high hill and (AL)under every green tree, 24 and there were also (AM)male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.
25 (AN)In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. 26 He took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house. (AO)He took away everything. He also took away all the shields of gold (AP)that Solomon had made, 27 and King Rehoboam made in their place shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house. 28 And as often as the king went into the house of the Lord, the guard carried them and brought them back to the guardroom.
29 (AQ)Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 30 (AR)And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. 31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. Abijam Reigns in Judah

Asa Reigns in Judah
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa began to reign over Judah, 10 and he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom. 11 (BD)And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father had done. 12 He put away the (BE)male cult prostitutes out of the land and removed (BF)all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 (BG)He also removed Maacah his mother from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. And Asa cut down her image and (BH)burned it at the brook Kidron. 14 (BI)But the high places were not taken away. Nevertheless, (BJ)the heart of Asa was wholly true to the Lord all his days. 15 And (BK)he brought into the house of the Lord the sacred gifts of his father and his own sacred gifts, silver, and gold, and vessels.
16 (BL)And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 17 (BM)Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and (BN)built Ramah, (BO)that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold (BP)that were left in the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house and gave them into the hands of his servants. (BQ)And King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, (BR)who lived in Damascus, saying, 19 “Let there be (BS)a covenant[b] between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Nadab Reigns in Israel
25 (CD)Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord (CE)and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin (CF)which he made Israel to sin.
27 (CG)Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha struck him down at (CH)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon. 28 So Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned in his place. 29 And as soon as he was king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He left to the house of Jeroboam not one that breathed, until he had destroyed it, (CI)according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. 30 It was for the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned and (CJ)that he made Israel to sin, and because of the anger to which he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.
31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 32 (CK)And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
Baasha Reigns in Israel
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah began to reign over all Israel at Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord (CL)and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made Israel to sin.
16 And the word of the Lord came to (CM)Jehu the son of (CN)Hanani against Baasha, saying, 2 “Since I (CO)exalted you out of the dust and made you leader over my people Israel, and (CP)you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, provoking me to anger with their sins, 3 behold, I will utterly (CQ)sweep away (CR)Baasha and his house, and I will make your house (CS)like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 4 (CT)Anyone belonging to Baasha who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone of his who dies in the field the birds of the heavens shall eat.”
5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 6 And Baasha slept with his fathers and was buried at (CU)Tirzah, and Elah his son reigned in his place. 7 Moreover, the word of the Lord came by the prophet (CV)Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and also because (CW)he destroyed it.
Elah Reigns in Israel
8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned two years. 9 But his servant (CX)Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him. When he was at Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, (CY)who was over the household in Tirzah, 10 Zimri came in and struck him down and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.
11 When he began to reign, as soon as he had seated himself on his throne, he struck down (CZ)all the house of Baasha. He (DA)did not leave him a single male of his relatives or his friends. 12 Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, (DB)according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke against Baasha by (DC)Jehu the prophet, 13 for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned and which they made Israel to sin, (DD)provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols. 14 Now the rest of the acts of Elah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Zimri Reigns in Israel
15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the troops were encamped against (DE)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, 16 and the troops who were encamped heard it said, “Zimri has conspired, and he has killed the king.” Therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. 17 So Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. 18 And when Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house over him with fire and died, 19 because of his sins that he committed, doing evil in the sight of the Lord, (DF)walking in the way of Jeroboam, and for his sin which he committed, making Israel to sin. 20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and the conspiracy that he made, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Omri Reigns in Israel
21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts. Half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. 22 But the people who followed Omri overcame the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died, and Omri became king. 23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel, and he reigned for twelve years; six years he reigned in Tirzah. 24 He bought the hill of (DG)Samaria from Shemer for two talents[c] of silver, and he fortified the hill and called the name of the city that he built (DH)Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.
25 (DI)Omri did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did more evil (DJ)than all who were before him. 26 For (DK)he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in the sins that he made Israel to sin, (DL)provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger by their idols. 27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri that he did, and the might that he showed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 28 And Omri slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and Ahab his son reigned in his place.
Ahab Reigns in Israel
29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, (DM)more than all who were before him. 31 And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (DN)he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the (DO)Sidonians, (DP)and went and served Baal and worshiped him. 32 He erected an altar for Baal in (DQ)the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria. 33 And Ahab made an (DR)Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger (DS)than all the kings of Israel who were before him. 34 (DT)In his days Hiel of Bethel built (DU)Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

A Psalm.
98 Oh, (A)sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has (B)done marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
2 (C)The Lord has made known His salvation;
(D)His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the [a]nations.
3 He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
(E)All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
5 Sing to the Lord with the harp,
With the harp and the sound of a psalm,
6 With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
Shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell in it;

98 Oh sing to the Lord (A)a new song,
for he has done (B)marvelous things!
His (C)right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has (D)made known his salvation;
he has (E)revealed his righteousness in (F)the sight of the nations.
3 He has (G)remembered his (H)steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All (I)the ends of the earth have seen
(J)the salvation of our God.
