2 συ ουν τεκνον μου ενδυναμου εν τη χαριτι τη εν χριστω ιησου
2 και α ηκουσας παρ εμου δια πολλων μαρτυρων ταυτα παραθου πιστοις ανθρωποις οιτινες ικανοι εσονται και ετερους διδαξαι
3 συγκακοπαθησον ως καλος στρατιωτης χριστου ιησου
4 ουδεις στρατευομενος εμπλεκεται ταις του βιου πραγματειαις ινα τω στρατολογησαντι αρεση
5 εαν δε και αθλη τις ου στεφανουται εαν μη νομιμως αθληση
6 τον κοπιωντα γεωργον δει πρωτον των καρπων μεταλαμβανειν
7 νοει ο λεγω δωσει γαρ σοι ο κυριος συνεσιν εν πασιν
8 μνημονευε ιησουν χριστον εγηγερμενον εκ νεκρων εκ σπερματος δαυιδ κατα το ευαγγελιον μου
9 εν ω κακοπαθω μεχρι δεσμων ως κακουργος αλλα ο λογος του θεου ου δεδεται
10 δια τουτο παντα υπομενω δια τους εκλεκτους ινα και αυτοι σωτηριας τυχωσιν της εν χριστω ιησου μετα δοξης αιωνιου
11 πιστος ο λογος ει γαρ συναπεθανομεν και συζησομεν
12 ει υπομενομεν και συμβασιλευσομεν ει αρνησομεθα κακεινος αρνησεται ημας
13 ει απιστουμεν εκεινος πιστος μενει αρνησασθαι γαρ εαυτον ου δυναται
14 ταυτα υπομιμνησκε διαμαρτυρομενος ενωπιον του θεου μη λογομαχειν επ ουδεν χρησιμον επι καταστροφη των ακουοντων
15 σπουδασον σεαυτον δοκιμον παραστησαι τω θεω εργατην ανεπαισχυντον ορθοτομουντα τον λογον της αληθειας
16 τας δε βεβηλους κενοφωνιας περιιστασο επι πλειον γαρ προκοψουσιν ασεβειας
17 και ο λογος αυτων ως γαγγραινα νομην εξει ων εστιν υμεναιος και φιλητος
18 οιτινες περι την αληθειαν ηστοχησαν λεγοντες αναστασιν ηδη γεγονεναι και ανατρεπουσιν την τινων πιστιν
19 ο μεντοι στερεος θεμελιος του θεου εστηκεν εχων την σφραγιδα ταυτην εγνω κυριος τους οντας αυτου και αποστητω απο αδικιας πας ο ονομαζων το ονομα κυριου
20 εν μεγαλη δε οικια ουκ εστιν μονον σκευη χρυσα και αργυρα αλλα και ξυλινα και οστρακινα και α μεν εις τιμην α δε εις ατιμιαν
21 εαν ουν τις εκκαθαρη εαυτον απο τουτων εσται σκευος εις τιμην ηγιασμενον ευχρηστον τω δεσποτη εις παν εργον αγαθον ητοιμασμενον
22 τας δε νεωτερικας επιθυμιας φευγε διωκε δε δικαιοσυνην πιστιν αγαπην ειρηνην μετα των επικαλουμενων τον κυριον εκ καθαρας καρδιας
23 τας δε μωρας και απαιδευτους ζητησεις παραιτου ειδως οτι γεννωσιν μαχας
24 δουλον δε κυριου ου δει μαχεσθαι αλλα ηπιον ειναι προς παντας διδακτικον ανεξικακον
25 εν πραυτητι παιδευοντα τους αντιδιατιθεμενους μηποτε δωη αυτοις ο θεος μετανοιαν εις επιγνωσιν αληθειας
26 και ανανηψωσιν εκ της του διαβολου παγιδος εζωγρημενοι υπ αυτου εις το εκεινου θελημα

2 So sei nun stark, mein Sohn, durch die Gnade in Christo Jesu.
2 Und was du von mir gehört hast durch viele Zeugen, das befiehl treuen Menschen, die da tüchtig sind, auch andere zu lehren.
3 Leide mit als ein guter Streiter Jesu Christi.
4 Kein Kriegsmann flicht sich in Händel der Nahrung, auf daß er gefalle dem, der ihn angenommen hat.
5 Und so jemand auch kämpft, wird er doch nicht gekrönt, er kämpfe denn recht.
6 Es soll aber der Ackermann, der den Acker baut, die Früchte am ersten genießen. Merke, was ich sage!
7 Der HERR aber wird dir in allen Dingen Verstand geben.
8 Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christum, der auferstanden ist von den Toten, aus dem Samen Davids, nach meinem Evangelium,
9 für welches ich leide bis zu den Banden wie ein Übeltäter; aber Gottes Wort ist nicht gebunden.
10 Darum erdulde ich alles um der Auserwählten willen, auf daß auch sie die Seligkeit erlangen in Christo Jesu mit ewiger Herrlichkeit.
11 Das ist gewißlich wahr: Sterben wir mit, so werden wir mitleben;
12 dulden wir, so werden wir mitherrschen; verleugnen wir, so wird er uns auch verleugnen;
13 glauben wir nicht, so bleibt er treu; er kann sich selbst nicht verleugnen.
14 Solches erinnere sie und bezeuge vor dem HERRN, daß sie nicht um Worte zanken, welches nichts nütze ist denn zu verkehren, die da zuhören.
15 Befleißige dich, Gott dich zu erzeigen als einen rechtschaffenen und unsträflichen Arbeiter, der da recht teile das Wort der Wahrheit.
16 Des ungeistlichen, losen Geschwätzes entschlage dich; denn es hilft viel zum ungöttlichen Wesen,
17 und ihr Wort frißt um sich wie der Krebs; unter welchen ist Hymenäus und Philetus,
18 welche von der Wahrheit irregegangen sind und sagen, die Auferstehung sei schon geschehen, und haben etlicher Glauben verkehrt.
19 Aber der feste Grund Gottes besteht und hat dieses Siegel: Der HERR kennt die seinen; und: Es trete ab von Ungerechtigkeit, wer den Namen Christi nennt.
20 In einem großen Hause aber sind nicht allein goldene und silberne Gefäße, sondern auch hölzerne und irdene, und etliche zu Ehren, etliche aber zu Unehren.
21 So nun jemand sich reinigt von solchen Leuten, der wird ein geheiligtes Gefäß sein zu Ehren, dem Hausherrn bräuchlich und zu allem guten Werk bereitet.
22 Fliehe die Lüste der Jugend; jage aber nach der Gerechtigkeit, dem Glauben, der Liebe, dem Frieden mit allen, die den HERRN anrufen von reinem Herzen.
23 Aber der törichten und unnützen Fragen entschlage dich; denn du weißt, daß sie nur Zank gebären.
24 Ein Knecht aber des HERRN soll nicht zänkisch sein, sondern freundlich gegen jedermann, lehrhaft, der die Bösen tragen kann
25 und mit Sanftmut strafe die Widerspenstigen, ob ihnen Gott dermaleinst Buße gebe, die Wahrheit zu erkennen,
26 und sie wieder nüchtern würden aus des Teufels Strick, von dem sie gefangen sind zu seinem Willen.

The Appeal Renewed
2 You then, my son,(A) be strong(B) in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say(C) in the presence of many witnesses(D) entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering,(E) like a good soldier(F) of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown(G) except by competing according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.(H) 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead,(I) descended from David.(J) This is my gospel,(K) 9 for which I am suffering(L) even to the point of being chained(M) like a criminal. But God’s word(N) is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything(O) for the sake of the elect,(P) that they too may obtain the salvation(Q) that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.(R)
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:(S)
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;(T)
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.(U)
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;(V)
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,(W)
for he cannot disown himself.
Dealing With False Teachers
14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words;(X) it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.(Y) 16 Avoid godless chatter,(Z) because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus(AA) and Philetus, 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place,(AB) and they destroy the faith of some.(AC) 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm,(AD) sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”(AE) and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord(AF) must turn away from wickedness.”
20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.(AG) 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.(AH)
22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love(AI) and peace, along with those who call on the Lord(AJ) out of a pure heart.(AK) 23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.(AL) 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.(AM) 25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,(AN) 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil,(AO) who has taken them captive to do his will.

2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
