9 και ελεγεν αυτοις αμην λεγω υμιν οτι εισιν τινες των ωδε εστηκοτων οιτινες ου μη γευσωνται θανατου εως αν ιδωσιν την βασιλειαν του θεου εληλυθυιαν εν δυναμει
2 και μεθ ημερας εξ παραλαμβανει ο ιησους τον πετρον και τον ιακωβον και τον ιωαννην και αναφερει αυτους εις ορος υψηλον κατ ιδιαν μονους και μετεμορφωθη εμπροσθεν αυτων
3 και τα ιματια αυτου εγενετο στιλβοντα λευκα λιαν ως χιων οια γναφευς επι της γης ου δυναται λευκαναι
4 και ωφθη αυτοις ηλιας συν μωσει και ησαν συλλαλουντες τω ιησου
5 και αποκριθεις ο πετρος λεγει τω ιησου ραββι καλον εστιν ημας ωδε ειναι και ποιησωμεν σκηνας τρεις σοι μιαν και μωσει μιαν και ηλια μιαν
6 ου γαρ ηδει τι λαληση ησαν γαρ εκφοβοι
7 και εγενετο νεφελη επισκιαζουσα αυτοις και ηλθεν φωνη εκ της νεφελης λεγουσα ουτος εστιν ο υιος μου ο αγαπητος αυτου ακουετε
8 και εξαπινα περιβλεψαμενοι ουκετι ουδενα ειδον αλλα τον ιησουν μονον μεθ εαυτων
9 καταβαινοντων δε αυτων απο του ορους διεστειλατο αυτοις ινα μηδενι διηγησωνται α ειδον ει μη οταν ο υιος του ανθρωπου εκ νεκρων αναστη
10 και τον λογον εκρατησαν προς εαυτους συζητουντες τι εστιν το εκ νεκρων αναστηναι
11 και επηρωτων αυτον λεγοντες οτι λεγουσιν οι γραμματεις οτι ηλιαν δει ελθειν πρωτον
12 ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν αυτοις ηλιας μεν ελθων πρωτον αποκαθιστα παντα και πως γεγραπται επι τον υιον του ανθρωπου ινα πολλα παθη και εξουδενωθη
13 αλλα λεγω υμιν οτι και ηλιας εληλυθεν και εποιησαν αυτω οσα ηθελησαν καθως γεγραπται επ αυτον
14 και ελθων προς τους μαθητας ειδεν οχλον πολυν περι αυτους και γραμματεις συζητουντας αυτοις
15 και ευθεως πας ο οχλος ιδων αυτον εξεθαμβηθη και προστρεχοντες ησπαζοντο αυτον
16 και επηρωτησεν τους γραμματεις τι συζητειτε προς αυτους
17 και αποκριθεις εις εκ του οχλου ειπεν διδασκαλε ηνεγκα τον υιον μου προς σε εχοντα πνευμα αλαλον
18 και οπου αν αυτον καταλαβη ρησσει αυτον και αφριζει και τριζει τους οδοντας αυτου και ξηραινεται και ειπον τοις μαθηταις σου ινα αυτο εκβαλωσιν και ουκ ισχυσαν
19 ο δε αποκριθεις αυτω λεγει ω γενεα απιστος εως ποτε προς υμας εσομαι εως ποτε ανεξομαι υμων φερετε αυτον προς με
20 και ηνεγκαν αυτον προς αυτον και ιδων αυτον ευθεως το πνευμα εσπαραξεν αυτον και πεσων επι της γης εκυλιετο αφριζων
21 και επηρωτησεν τον πατερα αυτου ποσος χρονος εστιν ως τουτο γεγονεν αυτω ο δε ειπεν παιδιοθεν
22 και πολλακις αυτον και εις πυρ εβαλεν και εις υδατα ινα απολεση αυτον αλλ ει τι δυνασαι βοηθησον ημιν σπλαγχνισθεις εφ ημας
23 ο δε ιησους ειπεν αυτω το ει δυνασαι πιστευσαι παντα δυνατα τω πιστευοντι
24 και ευθεως κραξας ο πατηρ του παιδιου μετα δακρυων ελεγεν πιστευω κυριε βοηθει μου τη απιστια
25 ιδων δε ο ιησους οτι επισυντρεχει οχλος επετιμησεν τω πνευματι τω ακαθαρτω λεγων αυτω το πνευμα το αλαλον και κωφον εγω σοι επιτασσω εξελθε εξ αυτου και μηκετι εισελθης εις αυτον
26 και κραξαν και πολλα σπαραξαν αυτον εξηλθεν και εγενετο ωσει νεκρος ωστε πολλους λεγειν οτι απεθανεν
27 ο δε ιησους κρατησας αυτον της χειρος ηγειρεν αυτον και ανεστη
28 και εισελθοντα αυτον εις οικον οι μαθηται αυτου επηρωτων αυτον κατ ιδιαν οτι ημεις ουκ ηδυνηθημεν εκβαλειν αυτο
29 και ειπεν αυτοις τουτο το γενος εν ουδενι δυναται εξελθειν ει μη εν προσευχη και νηστεια
30 και εκειθεν εξελθοντες παρεπορευοντο δια της γαλιλαιας και ουκ ηθελεν ινα τις γνω
31 εδιδασκεν γαρ τους μαθητας αυτου και ελεγεν αυτοις οτι ο υιος του ανθρωπου παραδιδοται εις χειρας ανθρωπων και αποκτενουσιν αυτον και αποκτανθεις τη τριτη ημερα αναστησεται
32 οι δε ηγνοουν το ρημα και εφοβουντο αυτον επερωτησαι
33 και ηλθεν εις καπερναουμ και εν τη οικια γενομενος επηρωτα αυτους τι εν τη οδω προς εαυτους διελογιζεσθε
34 οι δε εσιωπων προς αλληλους γαρ διελεχθησαν εν τη οδω τις μειζων
35 και καθισας εφωνησεν τους δωδεκα και λεγει αυτοις ει τις θελει πρωτος ειναι εσται παντων εσχατος και παντων διακονος
36 και λαβων παιδιον εστησεν αυτο εν μεσω αυτων και εναγκαλισαμενος αυτο ειπεν αυτοις
37 ος εαν εν των τοιουτων παιδιων δεξηται επι τω ονοματι μου εμε δεχεται και ος εαν εμε δεξηται ουκ εμε δεχεται αλλα τον αποστειλαντα με
38 απεκριθη δε αυτω ο ιωαννης λεγων διδασκαλε ειδομεν τινα τω ονοματι σου εκβαλλοντα δαιμονια ος ουκ ακολουθει ημιν και εκωλυσαμεν αυτον οτι ουκ ακολουθει ημιν
39 ο δε ιησους ειπεν μη κωλυετε αυτον ουδεις γαρ εστιν ος ποιησει δυναμιν επι τω ονοματι μου και δυνησεται ταχυ κακολογησαι με
40 ος γαρ ουκ εστιν καθ υμων υπερ υμων εστιν
41 ος γαρ αν ποτιση υμας ποτηριον υδατος εν τω ονοματι μου οτι χριστου εστε αμην λεγω υμιν ου μη απολεση τον μισθον αυτου
42 και ος αν σκανδαλιση ενα των μικρων των πιστευοντων εις εμε καλον εστιν αυτω μαλλον ει περικειται λιθος μυλικος περι τον τραχηλον αυτου και βεβληται εις την θαλασσαν
43 και εαν σκανδαλιζη σε η χειρ σου αποκοψον αυτην καλον σοι εστιν κυλλον εις την ζωην εισελθειν η τας δυο χειρας εχοντα απελθειν εις την γεενναν εις το πυρ το ασβεστον
44 οπου ο σκωληξ αυτων ου τελευτα και το πυρ ου σβεννυται
45 και εαν ο πους σου σκανδαλιζη σε αποκοψον αυτον καλον εστιν σοι εισελθειν εις την ζωην χωλον η τους δυο ποδας εχοντα βληθηναι εις την γεενναν εις το πυρ το ασβεστον
46 οπου ο σκωληξ αυτων ου τελευτα και το πυρ ου σβεννυται
47 και εαν ο οφθαλμος σου σκανδαλιζη σε εκβαλε αυτον καλον σοι εστιν μονοφθαλμον εισελθειν εις την βασιλειαν του θεου η δυο οφθαλμους εχοντα βληθηναι εις την γεενναν του πυρος
48 οπου ο σκωληξ αυτων ου τελευτα και το πυρ ου σβεννυται
49 πας γαρ πυρι αλισθησεται και πασα θυσια αλι αλισθησεται

14 και ελθοντες προς τους μαθητας ειδον οχλον πολυν περι αυτους και γραμματεις συζητουντας προς αυτους
15 και ευθυς πας ο οχλος ιδοντες αυτον εξεθαμβηθησαν και προστρεχοντες ησπαζοντο αυτον
16 και επηρωτησεν αυτους τι συζητειτε προς αυτους

19 ο δε αποκριθεις αυτοις λεγει ω γενεα απιστος εως ποτε προς υμας εσομαι εως ποτε ανεξομαι υμων φερετε αυτον προς με
20 και ηνεγκαν αυτον προς αυτον και ιδων αυτον το πνευμα ευθυς συνεσπαραξεν αυτον και πεσων επι της γης εκυλιετο αφριζων
21 και επηρωτησεν τον πατερα αυτου ποσος χρονος εστιν ως τουτο γεγονεν αυτω ο δε ειπεν εκ παιδιοθεν

Mark 9
New International Version
9 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come(A) with power.”(B)
The Transfiguration(C)(D)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(E) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(F) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(G) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(H) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(I)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(J) what they had seen until the Son of Man(K) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(L) must suffer much(M) and be rejected?(N) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(O) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(P)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(Q)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(R)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(S) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(T) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[a]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(U)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(V) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(W) and after three days(X) he will rise.”(Y) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(Z) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(AA) When he was in the house,(AB) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(AC)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(AD)
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(AE) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(AF)
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(AG)
38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(AH)
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(AI) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(AJ)
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(AK) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(AL) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(AM) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,(AN) where the fire never goes out.(AO) [44] [b] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble,(AP) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.(AQ) [46] [c] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble,(AR) pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,(AS) 48 where
49 Everyone will be salted(AU) with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?(AV) Have salt among yourselves,(AW) and be at peace with each other.”(AX)

9 And He said to them, (B)“Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see (C)the kingdom of God [a]present with power.”
Jesus Transfigured on the Mount
2 (D)Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became shining, exceedingly (E)white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— 6 because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.
7 And a (F)cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is (G)My beloved Son. (H)Hear Him!” 8 Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.
9 (I)Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept this word to themselves, questioning (J)what the rising from the dead meant.
11 And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say (K)that Elijah must come first?”
12 Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And (L)how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and (M)be treated with contempt? 13 But I say to you that (N)Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”
A Boy Is Healed(O)
14 (P)And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. 15 Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. 16 And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”
17 Then (Q)one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”
19 He answered him and said, “O (R)faithless[b] generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I [c]bear with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 Then they brought him to Him. And (S)when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.
21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”
And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 Jesus said to him, (T)“If[d] you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; (U)help my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He (V)rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28 (W)And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but (X)prayer [e]and fasting.”
Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection
30 Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it. 31 (Y)For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will (Z)kill Him. And after He is killed, He will (AA)rise the third day.” 32 But they (AB)did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.
Who Is the Greatest?(AC)
33 (AD)Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you [f]disputed among yourselves on the road?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had (AE)disputed among themselves who would be the (AF)greatest. 35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, (AG)“If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then (AH)He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and (AI)whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
Jesus Forbids Sectarianism(AJ)
38 (AK)Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, (AL)for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 For (AM)he who is not against [g]us is on [h]our side. 41 (AN)For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.
Jesus Warns of Offenses(AO)
42 (AP)“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me [i]to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 (AQ)If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life [j]maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to [k]hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— 44 [l]where

Tasteless Salt Is Worthless
49 “For everyone will be (AV)seasoned with fire, (AW)and[p] every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 (AX)Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? (AY)Have salt in yourselves, and (AZ)have peace with one another.”

9 Jesus sa: ”Tro meg: Noen av dere som står her, kommer ikke til å dø før de har sett Gud komme med kongelig makt.[a]”
Jesus blir forandret på fjellet
2 Seks dager seinere tok Jesus med seg Peter, Jakob og Johannes til toppen av et høyt fjell, der de kunne være for seg selv. Der forandret utseendet hans seg mens de så på. 3 Klærne hans ble blendende hvite, ja, hvitere enn noe rensemiddel i verden kan gjøre med klær. 4 De fikk se Elia og Moses stå og snakke med Jesus.[b] 5 Da sa Peter til Jesus: ”Mester, dette er et fantastisk sted å være på! La oss bygge tre hytter, en til deg, en til Moses og en til Elia!” 6 Han visste ikke hva han skulle si, for han var helt forvirret, akkurat som de andre disiplene.
7 Det kom en sky som senket seg over dem, og en stemme fra skyen sa: ”Dette er min elskede Sønn. Lytt til ham!”
8 Men da disiplene så seg omkring, var plutselig Moses og Elia borte, og de var alene tilbake med Jesus.
9 Da de gikk ned fra fjellet, ga Jesus dem streng beskjed om å ikke fortelle til noen det de hadde sett, før han, Menneskesønnen[c], hadde stått opp fra de døde. 10 Derfor holdt de dette for seg selv, men snakket ofte med hverandre om hva Jesus mente da han sa: ”Stå opp fra de døde”.
11 Disiplene spurte Jesus: ”Hvorfor påstår de skriftlærde[d] at Elia må vende tilbake før Messias, den lovede kongen, kommer?” 12 Jesus svarte: ”De skriftlærde har rett. Elia må først komme og sette alt i rett[e] skikk. Likevel har Gud forutsagt i Skriften[f] at jeg, Menneskesønnen, må lide og bli hånet av alle. Hvordan kan dette ha seg? 13 Jeg sier dere at Elia allerede har kommet, og menneskene behandlet han dårlig, akkurat slik det står om ham i Skriften.[g]”
Jesus helbreder en gutt som er besatt av en ond Ånd
14 Da de hadde kommet ned fra fjellet, fikk de se en stor folkemasse som hadde samlet seg rundt de andre disiplene. Noen skriftlærde[h] holdt på å diskutere. 15 Da folket fikk se Jesus komme gående, ble de gledelig overrasket og sprang fram til ham for å hilse. 16 Han spurte: ”Hva er det dere diskuterer?”
17 En mann i folkemassen sa: ”Mester, jeg har tatt sønnen min hit for at du skulle helbrede ham. Han er besatt av en ond Ånd som gjør ham stum. 18 Hver gang ånden går til angrep, slår den gutten til jorden og får ham til å fråde om munnen og skjære tenner, og han blir helt stiv. Jeg ba disiplene dine om å drive ut denne onde ånden, men de klarte det ikke.”
19 ”Dere skeptiske mennesker som ikke vil tro!” utbrøt Jesus. ”Hvor lenge må jeg være hos dere? Hvor lenge må jeg tåle dere? Kom hit med gutten til meg.”
20 De kom fram med gutten og da han fikk se Jesus, begynte ånden å rykke og slite i ham. Han falt til jorden og kastet seg fram og tilbake med fråde rundt munnen. 21 ”Hvor lenge har han hatt det på denne måten?” spurte Jesus faren. Han svarte: ”Helt siden han var liten. 22 Og den onde ånden får han ofte til å falle i ilden eller i vannet for at han skal dø. Ha medfølelse med oss og hjelp oss, om du kan!”
23 ”Om jeg kan?” svarte Jesus. ”Alt er mulig for den som tror.”
24 ”Jeg tror”, utbrøt faren. ”Hjelp min vantro!”
25 Jesus så nå at folk kom løpende fra alle kanter. Derfor snakket han strengt til den onde ånden og sa: ”Du stumme og døve Ånd, jeg befaler deg å fare ut av gutten og kom aldri mer tilbake!” 26 Ånden skrek ukontrollert og begynte å rykke og slite i gutten, men for til slutt ut av ham. Gutten lå helt livløs på jorden, og mange begynte mumle: ”Han er død.” 27 Jesus tok ham i hånden og hjalp ham opp. Da reiste han seg.
28 Senere kom Jesus til huset der han bodde, og ble alene med disiplene. De spurte ham: ”Hvorfor kunne ikke vi drive ut den onde ånden?”
29 Jesus svarte: ”Denne slags Ånder kan bare bli drevet ut ved bønn.[i]”
Jesus forutsier for andre gangen at han skal dø
30 Så dro Jesus og disiplene fra området og gikk gjennom Galilea. Han forsøkte å unngå all oppmerksomhet, 31 etter som han fortsatt hadde mye å undervise disiplene om.
Han forklarte: ”Jeg, Menneskesønnen[j], skal bli forrådt og utlevert til menneskene, og de kommer til å drepe meg, men etter tre[k] dager skal jeg stå opp fra de døde igjen.”
32 De forsto ikke hva han mente med dette. Ingen våget heller å spørre ham.
Jesus forklarer hvem som er størst
33 De kom nå til Kapernaum, og da de hadde gått inn i huset der de skulle bo, spurte han: ”Hva snakket dere om på veien?” 34 De skammet seg for å svare, for de hadde diskutert hvem av dem som var den største.
35 Da satte han seg ned og ba disiplene om å komme til seg, og han sa: ”Den som vil være størst, må gjøre seg minst, bli ydmyk og være tjener for alle.”
36 Han tok et lite barn og stilte det midt iblant dem, la armen om barnet og sa: 37 ”Den som tar imot et slikt barn fordi det tilhører meg, han tar imot meg. Og den som tar imot meg, han tar imot Gud, etter som Gud har sendt meg.”
Disiplene nekter en mann å gjøre mirakler i Jesu navn
38 Johannes, en av disiplene, sa til Jesus: ”Mester, vi så en mann som drev ut onde ånder i navnet ditt, men etter som han ikke tilhørte vår gruppe, så forsøkte vi å stoppe ham.”
39 Da sa Jesus til Johannes: ”La han holde på. Ingen som gjør mirakler i navnet mitt, kan sånn helt plutselig begynne å snakke dårlig om meg etterpå. 40 Den som ikke er mot oss, han er for oss. 41 Ja, jeg forsikrer dere, om noen bare gir dere et glass vann å drikke fordi dere tilhører meg, Kristus, da skal han få sin lønn for det.”
Jesus advarer mot fristelser
42 Jesus fortsatte: ”Om noen leder vill en av disse små som tror på meg, og får han til å synde, da var det bedre for den personen å bli kastet i havet med en stor stein surret til halsen. 43 Om hånden din får deg til å synde, da hogg den av. Det er bedre å få et evig liv sammen med Gud og heller savne den ene hånden, enn å ha begge hendene i behold og havne i helvete, der ilden aldri slokner.[l] 45 Og om foten din får deg til å synde, da hogg den av. Det er bedre å få et evig liv sammen med Gud og heller savne den ene foten, enn å ha begge føttene i behold og bli kastet i helvete.[m]
47 Om ditt øye får deg til å synde, da riv det ut. Det er bedre å komme til Guds nye verden og være enøyd, enn å ha begge øynene i behold og bli kastet i helvete,
48 der ormene ikke dør,
og ilden aldri slukner.[n]
Å bli renset gjennom prøvelser
49 Alle som følger meg, må bli renset gjennom lidelsens ild.[o]
50 Den som er villig til å følge meg hva det enn måtte koste, han blir det saltet som bevarer verden fra forråtnelse. Hvilken nytte har vi av saltet dersom det har mistet sin kraft?[p] Kan noen få det til å bli salt igjen? Nei! Se derfor til at dere ikke mister saltets virkekraft, og lev i fred med hverandre.”[q]
