4 Poi prese di nuovo ad insegnare in riva al mare; e una gran folla si radunò intorno a lui, tanto che egli, salito su una barca, vi sedeva stando in mare, mentre l'intera folla era a terra lungo la riva.
2 Ed egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole, e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento:
3 «Ascoltate! Ecco, il seminatore uscí a seminare.
4 Or avvenne che mentre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada e gli uccelli del cielo vennero e la mangiarono.
5 Un'altra cadde in luoghi rocciosi dove non c'era molta terra e subito spuntò, perché non c'era un terreno profondo.
6 Ma quando si levò il sole fu riarsa; e poiché non aveva radice si seccò.
7 Un'altra cadde tra le spine; le spine crebbero, la soffocarono e non diede frutto.
8 Un'altra cadde in buona terra e portò frutto che crebbe, e si sviluppò tanto da rendere l'uno trenta, l'altro sessanta e l'altro cento».
9 Poi egli disse loro: «Chi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».
10 Ora, quando egli fu solo, coloro che gli stavano attorno con i dodici lo interrogarono sulla parabola.
11 Ed egli disse loro: «A voi è dato di conoscere il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a coloro che sono di fuori tutte queste cose si propongono in parabole,
12 affinché: "Vedendo, vedano ma non intendano, udendo, odano ma non comprendano, che talora non si convertano e i peccati non siano loro perdonati"».
13 Poi disse loro: «Non comprendete questa parabola? E come comprenderete tutte le altre parabole?
14 Il seminatore è colui che semina la parola.
15 Quelli lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali viene seminata la parola; ma dopo che l'hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la parola seminata nei loro cuori.
16 Parimenti quelli che ricevono il seme su un suolo roccioso sono coloro che, quando hanno udita la parola, subito la ricevono con gioia;
17 ma non hanno in sé radice e sono di corta durata; e, quando sopravviene la tribolazione o la persecuzione a causa della parola, sono subito scandalizzati.
18 Quelli invece che ricevono il seme fra le spine, sono coloro che odono la parola;
19 ma le sollecitudini di questo mondo, l'inganno delle ricchezze e le cupidigie delle altre cose, che sopravvengono, soffocano la parola e questa rimane infruttuosa.
20 Ma quelli che hanno ricevuto il seme in buon terreno, sono coloro che odono la parola, la ricevono e portano frutto, chi il trenta, chi il sessanta e chi il cento».
21 Disse loro ancora: «Si prende forse la lampada per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? Non la si mette piuttosto sopra il candeliere?
22 Poiché non c'è nulla di nascosto che non sia manifestato, né nulla di segreto che non sia palesato.
23 Chi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».
24 Disse loro ancora: «Fate attenzione a ciò che udite. Con la stessa misura con cui misurate, sarà misurato a voi; e a voi che udite sarà dato di piú.
25 Poiché a chi ha, sarà dato; ma a chi non ha, gli sarà tolto anche quello che ha».
26 Disse ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getta il seme in terra.
27 Ora la notte e il giorno, mentre egli dorme e si alza, il seme germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come.
28 Poiché la terra produce spontaneamente prima lo stelo, poi la spiga, poi il chicco pieno nella spiga.
29 E, quando il frutto è maturo, il mietitore mette subito mano alla falce perché è venuta la mietitura».
30 Disse ancora: «A che cosa paragoneremo il regno di Dio? O con quale parabola lo rappresenteremo?
31 Esso è simile a un granello di senape che, quando è seminato in terra, è il piú piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra;
32 ma, dopo che è stato seminato, cresce e diventa il piú grande di tutte le erbe, e mette rami cosí grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono ripararsi sotto la sua ombra».
33 E con molte parabole di questo genere annunciava loro la parola, come essi erano in grado di capire.
34 E non parlava loro senza parabole; ma in privato ai suoi discepoli spiegava ogni cosa.
35 Or in quello stesso giorno, fattosi sera, disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva».
36 E i discepoli, licenziata la folla, lo presero con loro, cosí come egli era, nella barca. Con lui c'erano altre barchette.
37 Si scatenò una gran bufera di vento e le onde si abbattevano sulla barca, tanto che questa si riempiva.
38 Egli intanto stava dormendo a poppa, su un guanciale. Essi lo destarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t'importa che noi periamo?».
39 Ed egli, destatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci e calmati!». E il vento cessò e si fece gran bonaccia.
40 Poi disse loro: «Perché siete voi cosí paurosi? Come mai non avete fede?».
41 Ed essi furono presi da gran timore e dicevano tra loro: «Chi è dunque costui al quale anche il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?».

Parabola del seminatore
4 Di nuovo si mise a insegnare lungo il mare. E si riunì attorno a lui una folla enorme, tanto che egli salì su una barca e là restò seduto, stando in mare, mentre la folla era a terra lungo la riva. 2 Insegnava loro molte cose in parabole e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento: 3 «Ascoltate. Ecco, uscì il seminatore a seminare. 4 Mentre seminava, una parte cadde lungo la strada e vennero gli uccelli e la divorarono. 5 Un'altra cadde fra i sassi, dove non c'era molta terra, e subito spuntò perché non c'era un terreno profondo; 6 ma quando si levò il sole, restò bruciata e, non avendo radice, si seccò. 7 Un'altra cadde tra le spine; le spine crebbero, la soffocarono e non diede frutto. 8 E un'altra cadde sulla terra buona, diede frutto che venne su e crebbe, e rese ora il trenta, ora il sessanta e ora il cento per uno». 9 E diceva: «Chi ha orecchi per intendere intenda!».
Perché Gesù parla in parabole
10 Quando poi fu solo, i suoi insieme ai Dodici lo interrogavano sulle parabole. Ed egli disse loro: 11 «A voi è stato confidato il mistero del regno di Dio; a quelli di fuori invece tutto viene esposto in parabole, 12 perché:
guardino, ma non vedano, ascoltino, ma non intendano,
perché non si convertano e venga loro perdonato».
Spiegazione della parabola del seminatore
13 Continuò dicendo loro: «Se non comprendete questa parabola, come potrete capire tutte le altre parabole? 14 Il seminatore semina la parola. 15 Quelli lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali viene seminata la parola; ma quando l'ascoltano, subito viene satana, e porta via la parola seminata in loro. 16 Similmente quelli che ricevono il seme sulle pietre sono coloro che, quando ascoltano la parola, subito l'accolgono con gioia, 17 ma non hanno radice in se stessi, sono incostanti e quindi, al sopraggiungere di qualche tribolazione o persecuzione a causa della parola, subito si abbattono. 18 Altri sono quelli che ricevono il seme tra le spine: sono coloro che hanno ascoltato la parola, 19 ma sopraggiungono le preoccupazioni del mondo e l'inganno della ricchezza e tutte le altre bramosie, soffocano la parola e questa rimane senza frutto. 20 Quelli poi che ricevono il seme su un terreno buono, sono coloro che ascoltano la parola, l'accolgono e portano frutto nella misura chi del trenta, chi del sessanta, chi del cento per uno».
Come ricevere e trasmettere l'insegnamento di Gesù
21 Diceva loro: «Si porta forse la lampada per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? O piuttosto per metterla sul lucerniere? 22 Non c'è nulla infatti di nascosto che non debba essere manifestato e nulla di segreto che non debba essere messo in luce. 23 Se uno ha orecchi per intendere, intenda!».
24 Diceva loro: «Fate attenzione a quello che udite: Con la stessa misura con la quale misurate, sarete misurati anche voi; anzi vi sarà dato di più. 25 Poiché a chi ha, sarà dato e a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha».
Parabola del seme che spunta da solo
26 Diceva: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getta il seme nella terra; 27 dorma o vegli, di notte o di giorno, il seme germoglia e cresce; come, egli stesso non lo sa. 28 Poiché la terra produce spontaneamente, prima lo stelo, poi la spiga, poi il chicco pieno nella spiga. 29 Quando il frutto è pronto, subito si mette mano alla falce, perché è venuta la mietitura».
Parabola del grano di senapa
30 Diceva: «A che cosa possiamo paragonare il regno di Dio o con quale parabola possiamo descriverlo? 31 Esso è come un granellino di senapa che, quando viene seminato per terra, è il più piccolo di tutti semi che sono sulla terra; 32 ma appena seminato cresce e diviene più grande di tutti gli ortaggi e fa rami tanto grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono ripararsi alla sua ombra».
Conclusione sulle parabole
33 Con molte parabole di questo genere annunziava loro la parola secondo quello che potevano intendere. 34 Senza parabole non parlava loro; ma in privato, ai suoi discepoli, spiegava ogni cosa.
La tempesta sedata
35 In quel medesimo giorno, verso sera, disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva». 36 E lasciata la folla, lo presero con sé, così com'era, nella barca. C'erano anche altre barche con lui. 37 Nel frattempo si sollevò una gran tempesta di vento e gettava le onde nella barca, tanto che ormai era piena. 38 Egli se ne stava a poppa, sul cuscino, e dormiva. Allora lo svegliarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t'importa che moriamo?». 39 Destatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci, calmati!». Il vento cessò e vi fu grande bonaccia. 40 Poi disse loro: «Perché siete così paurosi? Non avete ancora fede?». 41 E furono presi da grande timore e si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Chi è dunque costui, al quale anche il vento e il mare obbediscono?».

Parabola del seminatore
4 (A)Gesú si mise di nuovo a insegnare presso il mare. Una gran folla si radunò intorno a lui. Perciò egli, montato su una barca, vi sedette stando in mare, mentre tutta la folla era a terra sulla riva. 2 Egli insegnava loro molte cose in *parabole, e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento:

14 Il seminatore semina la parola. 15 Quelli che sono lungo la strada, sono coloro nei quali è seminata la parola; e quando l'hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la parola seminata in loro. 16 E cosí quelli che ricevono il seme in luoghi rocciosi sono coloro che, quando odono la parola, la ricevono subito con gioia; 17 ma non hanno in sé radice e sono di corta durata; poi, quando vengono tribolazione e persecuzione a causa della parola, sono subito sviati. 18 E altri sono quelli che ricevono il seme tra le spine; cioè coloro che hanno udito la parola; 19 poi gli impegni mondani, l'inganno delle ricchezze, l'avidità delle altre cose, penetrati in loro, soffocano la parola, che cosí riesce infruttuosa. 20 Quelli poi che hanno ricevuto il seme in buona terra sono coloro che odono la parola e l'accolgono e fruttano il trenta, il sessanta e il cento per uno».
La lampada sul candeliere
21 (B)Poi diceva ancora: «Si prende forse la lampada per metterla sotto il *vaso o sotto il letto? Non la si prende invece per metterla sul *candeliere? 22 Poiché non vi è nulla che sia nascosto se non per essere manifestato; e nulla è stato tenuto segreto, se non per essere messo in luce. 23 Se uno ha orecchi per udire oda».
24 Diceva loro ancora: «Badate a ciò che udite. Con la misura con la quale misurate sarete misurati pure voi; e a voi sarà dato anche di piú; 25 poiché a chi ha sarà dato, a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha».
Il seme che da sé germoglia e cresce
26 (C)Diceva ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getti il seme nel terreno, 27 e dorma e si alzi, la notte e il giorno; il seme intanto germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come. 28 La terra da sé stessa dà il suo frutto: prima l'erba, poi la spiga, poi nella spiga il grano ben formato. 29 Quando il frutto è maturo, subito il mietitore vi mette la falce perché l'ora della mietitura è venuta».
Il granello di senape
30 (D)Diceva ancora: «A che paragoneremo il regno di Dio, o con quale parabola lo rappresenteremo? 31 Esso è simile a un granello di senape, il quale, quando lo si è seminato in terra, è il piú piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra; 32 ma quando è seminato, cresce e diventa piú grande di tutti gli ortaggi; e fa dei rami tanto grandi, che all'ombra loro possono ripararsi gli uccelli del cielo».
33 Con molte parabole di questo genere esponeva loro la parola, secondo quello che potevano intendere. 34 Non parlava loro senza parabola; ma in privato ai suoi discepoli spiegava ogni cosa.
Gesú calma la tempesta
35 (E)In quello stesso giorno, alla sera, Gesú disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva». 36 I discepoli, congedata la folla, lo presero, cosí com'era, nella barca. C'erano delle altre barche con lui. 37 Ed ecco levarsi una gran bufera di vento che gettava le onde nella barca, tanto che questa già si riempiva. 38 Egli stava dormendo sul guanciale a poppa. I discepoli lo svegliarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t'importa che noi moriamo?» 39 Egli, svegliatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci, càlmati!» Il vento cessò e si fece gran bonaccia. 40 Egli disse loro: «Perché siete cosí paurosi? Non avete ancora fede?» 41 Ed essi furono presi da gran timore e si dicevano gli uni gli altri: «Chi è dunque costui, al quale persino il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?»

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
14 The sower soweth the word.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
