2 وَلَكِنِّي قَرَّرْتُ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ مَجِيئِي إِلَيْكُمْ سَبَباً لإِحْزَانِكُمْ. 2 فَإِنْ أَحْزَنْتُكُمْ فَمَنْ ذَا يُفَرِّحُنِي إِلّا الَّذِي أَحْزَنْتُهُ؟ 3 لِهَذَا أَكْتُبُ إِلَيْكُمْ مَا أَكْتُبُهُ هُنَا، حَتَّى عِنْدَمَا أَجِيءُ لَا يَأْتِينِي الْحُزْنُ مِنَ الَّذِي كَانَ يَجِبُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي مِنْهُ الْفَرَحُ. وَلِي ثِقَةٌ بِجَمِيعِكُمْ أَنَّ فَرَحِي هُوَ فَرَحُكُمْ جَمِيعاً. 4 فَإِنَّ مَا كَتَبْتُهُ إِلَيْكُمْ سَابِقاً كَانَ نَابِعاً مِنْ ضِيقٍ شَدِيدٍ وَاكْتِئَابٍ فِي الْقَلْبِ، وَمَصْحُوباً بِدُمُوعٍ كَثِيرَةٍ. وَمَا كَانَ قَصْدِي أَنْ أُحْزِنَكُمْ، بَلْ أَنْ تَعْرِفُوا الْمَحَبَّةَ الْفَيَّاضَةَ الَّتِي عِنْدِي مِنْ نَحْوِكُمْ.

5 وَإذَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ قَدْ سَبَّبَ الْحُزْنَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُسَبِّبِ الْحُزْنَ لِي شَخْصِيًّا، بَلْ لِجَمِيعِكُمْ إِلَى حَدٍّ مَا، هَذَا لِكَيْ لَا أُبَالِغَ! 6 وَالآنَ، يَكْفِي ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلَ الْمُذْنِبَ الْقِصَاصُ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَهُ بِهِ أَكْثَرُكُمْ. 7 وَعَلَى نَقِيضِ ذَلِكَ، فَأَحْرَى بِكُمُ الآنَ أَنْ تُسَامِحُوهُ وَتُشَجِّعُوهُ، وَإلَّا فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ يُبْتَلَعُ فِي غَمْرَةِ الْحُزْنِ الشَّدِيدِ. 8 لِذَلِكَ أُنَاشِدُكُمْ أَنْ تُؤَكِّدُوا لَهُ مَحَبَّتَكُمْ. 9 وَقَدْ كَانَ مَا كَتَبْتُهُ إِلَيْكُمْ بِهَدَفِ اخْتِبَارِكُمْ أَيْضاً، لأَعْرِفَ مَدَى طَاعَتِكُمْ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ. 10 فَمَنْ تُسَامِحُونَهُ بِشَيْءٍ، أُسَامِحُهُ أَنَا أَيْضاً. وَإذَا كُنْتُ أَنَا أَيْضاً قَدْ سَامَحْتُ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلَ بِشَيْءٍ، فَقَدْ سَامَحْتُهُ مِنْ أَجْلِكُمْ فِي حَضْرَةِ الْمَسِيحِ، 11 مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَغِلَّنَا الشَّيْطَانُ لأَنَنَا لَا نَجْهَلُ نِيَّاتِهِ.

12 وَلَمَّا وَصَلْتُ إِلَى مَدِينَةِ تَرُوَاسَ لأَجْلِ إِنْجِيلِ الْمَسِيحِ، وَفَتَحَ لِيَ الرَّبُّ بَاباً لِلْخِدْمَةِ 13 لَمْ تَسْتَرِحْ رُوحِي لأَنِّي لَمْ أَجِدْ تِيطُسَ أَخِي. فَوَدَّعْتُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ هُنَاكَ وَتَوَجَّهْتُ إِلَى مُقَاطَعَةِ مَقِدُونِيَّةَ. 14 وَلكِنْ، شُكْراً لِلهِ الَّذِي يَقُودُنَا دَائِماً فِي مَوْكِبِ النَّصْرِ فِي الْمَسِيحِ، وَيَنْشُرُ بِنَا رَائِحَةَ مَعْرِفَتِهِ فِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ. 15 فَإِنَّنَا رَائِحَةُ الْمَسِيحِ الطَّيِّبَةُ الْمُرْتَفِعَةُ إِلَى اللهِ، الْمُنْتَشِرَةُ عَلَى السَّوَاءِ عِنْدَ الَّذِينَ يَخْلُصُونَ وَعِنْدَ الَّذِينَ يَهْلِكُونَ: 16 هَؤُلاءِ يَشُمُّونَ فِيهَا رَائِحَةً مِنَ الْمَوْتِ وَإِلَى الْمَوْتِ، وَأُولئِكَ رَائِحَةً مِنَ الْحَيَاةِ وَإِلَى الْحَيَاةِ. وَمَنْ هُوَ صَاحِبُ الْكَفَاءَةِ لِتَأْدِيَةِ هذِهِ الأُمُورِ؟ 17 فَإِنَّنَا لَا نُتَاجِرُ بِكَلِمَةِ اللهِ كَمَا يَفْعَلُ الْكَثِيرُونَ، وَإِنَّمَا بِإِخْلاصٍ وَمِنْ قِبَلِ اللهِ، وَأَمَامَ اللهِ، نَتَكَلَّمُ فِي الْمَسِيحِ.

2 Así que decidí que no les causaría tristeza con otra visita dolorosa. 2 Pues, si yo les causo tristeza, ¿quién me alegrará a mí? Por cierto, no será alguien a quien yo haya entristecido. 3 Por eso les escribí como lo hice, para que, cuando llegue, no me causen tristeza los mismos que deberían darme la más grande alegría. Seguramente, todos ustedes saben que mi alegría proviene de que estén alegres. 4 Escribí aquella carta con gran angustia, un corazón afligido y muchas lágrimas. No quise causarles tristeza, más bien quería que supieran cuánto amor tengo por ustedes.
Perdón para el pecador
5 No exagero cuando digo que el hombre que causó todos los problemas los lastimó más a todos ustedes que a mí. 6 La mayoría de ustedes se le opusieron, y eso ya fue suficiente castigo. 7 No obstante, ahora es tiempo de perdonarlo y consolarlo; de otro modo, podría ser vencido por el desaliento. 8 Así que ahora les ruego que reafirmen su amor por él.
9 Les escribí como lo hice para probarlos y ver si cumplirían mis instrucciones al pie de la letra. 10 Si ustedes perdonan a este hombre, yo también lo perdono. Cuando yo perdono lo que necesita ser perdonado, lo hago con la autoridad de Cristo en beneficio de ustedes, 11 para que Satanás no se aproveche de nosotros. Pues ya conocemos sus maquinaciones malignas.
12 Cuando llegué a la ciudad de Troas para predicar la Buena Noticia de Cristo, el Señor me abrió una puerta de oportunidad; 13 pero no sentía paz, porque mi querido hermano Tito todavía no había llegado con un informe de ustedes. Así que me despedí y seguí hacia Macedonia para buscarlo.

14 Así que, ¡gracias a Dios!, quien nos ha hecho sus cautivos y siempre nos lleva en triunfo en el desfile victorioso de Cristo. Ahora nos usa para difundir el conocimiento de Cristo por todas partes como un fragante perfume. 15 Nuestras vidas son la fragancia de Cristo que sube hasta Dios, pero esta fragancia se percibe de una manera diferente por los que se salvan y los que se pierden. 16 Para los que se pierden, somos un espantoso olor de muerte y condenación, pero para aquellos que se salvan, somos un perfume que da vida. ¿Y quién es la persona adecuada para semejante tarea?
17 Ya ven, no somos como tantos charlatanes[a] que predican para provecho personal. Nosotros predicamos la palabra de Dios con sinceridad y con la autoridad de Cristo, sabiendo que Dios nos observa.

2 1 So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you.(A) 2 For if I grieve you,(B) who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? 3 I wrote as I did,(C) so that when I came I would not be distressed(D) by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence(E) in all of you, that you would all share my joy. 4 For I wrote you(F) out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.
Forgiveness for the Offender
5 If anyone has caused grief,(G) he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6 The punishment(H) inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him,(I) so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9 Another reason I wrote you(J) was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.(K) 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan(L) might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.(M)

12 Now when I went to Troas(N) to preach the gospel of Christ(O) and found that the Lord had opened a door(P) for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind,(Q) because I did not find my brother Titus(R) there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.(S)
14 But thanks be to God,(T) who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma(U) of the knowledge(V) of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma(W) of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.(X) 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death;(Y) to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?(Z) 17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit.(AA) On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity,(AB) as those sent from God.(AC)
