40 Nell'anno venticinquesimo della nostra cattività, all'inizio dell'anno, il decimo giorno del mese, nel quattordicesimo anno da quando la città era stata presa, in quello stesso giorno la mano dell'Eterno fu sopra di me; e mi trasportò là.
2 In visioni di DIO mi trasportò nel paese d'Israele e mi posò su un monte altissimo, sul quale c'era dal lato sud una costruzione che sembrava una città.
3 Egli mi condusse là, ed ecco un uomo, il cui aspetto era come l'aspetto di bronzo, con in mano una cordicella di lino e una canna per misurare; egli stava in piedi, sulla porta.
4 Quell'uomo mi disse: «Figlio d'uomo, guarda con i tuoi occhi, ascolta con i tuoi orecchi e fa' attenzione a tutte le cose che ti mostrerò, poiché tu sei stato condotto qui perché io te le mostri. Riferisci alla casa d'Israele tutto ciò che vedrai».
5 Ed ecco, c'era un muro all'esterno del tempio, tutt'intorno. La canna per misurare in mano all'uomo era lunga sei cubiti, di un cubito e un palmo ciascuno. Egli misurò la larghezza del muro: era una canna, e l'altezza una canna.
6 Poi venne alla porta che guarda a est, salí i suoi gradini e misurò la soglia della porta: era una canna di larghezza; anche l'altra soglia era una canna di larghezza.
7 Ogni camera misurava una canna di lunghezza e una canna di larghezza. Fra le camere c'era uno spazio di cinque cubiti. La soglia della porta vicina all'atrio della porta interna era di una canna.
8 Misurò anche l'atrio della porta interna: era una canna.
9 Poi misurò l'atrio della porta: era otto cubiti, mentre i suoi pilastri erano due cubiti. L'atrio della porta era nella parte interna.
10 Le camere della porta a est erano tre da una parte e tre dall'altra; tutte e tre avevano la stessa grandezza; la stessa dimensione avevano pure i pilastri da una parte e dall'altra.
11 Misurò la larghezza dell'ingresso della porta: era di dieci cubiti; la lunghezza della porta era di tredici cubiti.
12 Lo spazio davanti alle camere era di un cubito da una parte e di un cubito dall'altra; ogni camera misurava sei cubiti da un lato e sei dall'altro.
13 E misurò quindi la porta dal tetto di una delle camere al tetto dell'altra; la larghezza da porta a porta era di venticinque cubiti.
14 Calcolò i pilastri: erano alti sessanta cubiti; dai pilastri si estendeva il cortile tutt'intorno alle porte.
15 Dal davanti della porta d'ingresso al davanti dell'atrio della porta interna c'erano cinquanta cubiti.
16 Le finestre e i loro pilastri all'interno della porta avevano le grate tutt'intorno; lo stesso era per gli archi. C'erano pure finestre tutt'intorno nella parte interna, e sui pilastri erano raffigurate delle palme.
17 Poi mi condusse nel cortile esterno ed ecco, c'erano camere e un lastrico tutt'intorno al cortile; trenta camere davano sul lastrico.
18 Il lastrico accanto alle porte corrispondeva alla lunghezza delle porte; era il lastrico inferiore.
19 Poi misurò la larghezza dal davanti della porta inferiore, al davanti della porta esteriore del cortile interno: erano cento cubiti a est e a nord.
20 Misurò pure la lunghezza e la larghezza della porta che guarda a nord nel cortile esterno.
21 Le sue camere erano tre da una parte e tre dall'altra parte; i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano la stessa grandezza della prima porta: cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque di larghezza.
22 Le sue finestre, i suoi archi, le sue palme avevano la stessa larghezza della porta che guardava a est; vi si saliva per sette gradini, davanti ai quali stavano i suoi archi.
23 Il cortile interno aveva una porta che stava di fronte alla porta nord, esattamente come era per la porta est, misurò da porta a porta: erano cento cubiti.
24 Poi mi condusse verso sud, ed ecco una porta che guardava a sud; ne misurò i pilastri e gli archi, che avevano le stesse dimensioni dei precedenti.
25 In essa e nei suoi archi c'erano finestre tutt'intorno, come le altre finestre: cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza.
26 Vi si saliva per sette gradini, davanti ai quali stavano gli archi; essa aveva palme, una da una parte e l'altra dall'altra parte, sui suoi pilastri.
27 Il cortile interno aveva una porta verso sud; misurò la distanza da porta a porta verso sud: cento cubiti.
28 Poi mi condusse nel cortile interno attraverso la porta del sud e misurò la porta del sud, che aveva le stesse dimensioni.
29 Anche le sue camere, i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano le stesse dimensioni. Essa aveva finestre e archi tutt'intorno e misurava cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque di larghezza.
30 Tutt'intorno c'erano archi di venticinque cubiti di lunghezza e cinque cubiti di larghezza.
31 I suoi archi davano sul cortile esterno; c'erano palme sui suoi pilastri, e vi si saliva per otto gradini.
32 Poi mi condusse nel cortile interno che guarda a est e misurò la porta: aveva le stesse dimensioni.
33 Anche le sue camere, i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano le stesse dimensioni. Essa aveva finestre e archi tutt'intorno e misurava cinquanta Cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza.
34 I suoi archi davano sul cortile esterno; c'erano palme sui suoi pilastri da una parte e dall'altra, e vi si saliva per otto gradini.
35 Quindi mi condusse alla porta nord e la misurò: aveva le stesse dimensioni,
36 come pure le sue camere, i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi; c'erano finestre tutt'intorno; essa misurava cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza.
37 I suoi pilastri davano sul cortile esterno; c'erano delle palme sui suoi pilastri da una parte e dall'altra, e vi si saliva per otto gradini.
38 C'era pure una camera con l'ingresso vicino ai pilastri delle porte, là si lavavano gli olocausti.
39 Nell'atrio della porta c'erano due tavole da una parte e due tavole dall'altra parte, sulle quali venivano scannati gli olocausti, i sacrifici per il peccato e per la trasgressione.
40 Sul lato esterno dell'atrio, come uno sale all'ingresso della porta nord, c'erano due tavole, con altre due tavole dall'altra parte dell'atrio della porta.
41 Cosí ai lati della porta c'erano quattro tavole da una parte e quattro tavole dall'altra parte: otto tavole in tutto su cui venivano scannati i sacrifici.
42 Per gli olocausti c'erano ancora quattro tavole di pietra squadrate, lunghe un cubito e mezzo, larghe un cubito e mezzo e alte un cubito; su di esse venivano posti gli strumenti con i quali si scannavano gli olocausti e gli altri sacrifici.
43 All'interno, tutt'intorno alla camera, erano attaccati uncini di un palmo sulle tavole si metteva la carne delle offerte.
44 Fuori della porta interna c'erano due camere per i cantori nel cortile interno: una era accanto alla porta nord e guardava a sud, l'altra era accanto alla porta sud e guardava a nord.
45 Egli mi disse: «Questa camera che guarda a sud è per i sacerdoti che prestano servizio nel tempio;
46 la camera che guarda verso nord è per i sacerdoti che prestano servizio all'altare, essi sono i figli di Tsadok, tra i figli di Levi, che si avvicinano all'Eterno per servirlo».
47 Egli misurò il cortile: era quadrato di cento cubiti di lunghezza e cento cubiti di larghezza; l'altare era di fronte al tempio.
48 Poi mi condusse nell'atrio del tempio e misurò i pilastri dell'atrio: erano cinque cubiti da una parte e cinque cubiti dall'altra parte; la larghezza della porta era di tre cubiti da una parte e tre cubiti dall'altra parte.
49 La lunghezza del vestibolo era di venti cubiti, e la larghezza di undici cubiti; vi si saliva per gradini; accanto ai pilastri c'erano colonne, una da una parte e una dall'altra parte.

De man met het meetlint en de meetstok
40 In het 25e jaar dat we als gevangenen in Babylonië woonden, kwam op de tiende dag van de eerste maand Gods Geest over mij. Het was die dag precies 14 jaar geleden dat Jeruzalem was verwoest. De Geest van de Heer nam mijn geest mee naar Jeruzalem. 2 Hij bracht me naar het land Israël. Ik stond op een heel hoge berg. Op de zuidhelling van de berg was iets gebouwd dat op een stad leek. 3 In de poort zag ik een man staan die glansde als koper.[a] Hij had een meetlint en een meetstok in zijn hand. 4 De man zei tegen mij: "Mensenzoon, let goed op wat je hier zal zien en horen. Want daarvoor ben je hier gebracht. Vertel later aan het volk Israël alles wat je hier hebt gezien."
De man meet de poorten naar het buitenplein
5 Ik zag dat rondom het hele gebouw een muur liep. De man had in zijn hand een meetstok van 6 el lang. (Een el op de meetstok was 1 el plus een handbreedte.[b]) Daarmee ging hij de dikte en de hoogte van de muur opmeten. De muur was 6 el (3,18 m) dik en 6 el hoog.
6 Toen liep hij naar de poort aan de oostkant. Hij ging de traptreden op en ging de ingang van de poort opmeten. De ingang aan de ene kant was 6 el (3,18 m) diep. De ingang aan de andere kant die op het plein uitkwam was ook 6 el diep. 7 In de poort waren kamers. Elke kamer was 6 el (3,18 m) lang en 6 el breed. Tussen de kamers was een muur van 5 el (2,65 m). Daarna kwam er een doorgang naar de voorhal. De voorhal was verdeeld in twee portieken achter elkaar. De doorgang naar de voorhal was 6 el (3,18 m) diep.
8 De man nam de maten op van het binnenste portiek. Het was 6 el (3,18 m) diep. 9 Van dat portiek ging een doorgang naar het buitenste portiek. Dat portiek was 8 el (4,24 m). De ingang was 2 el (1,06 m) diep.
10 In de poort waren aan elke kant drie kamers. Ze waren allemaal even groot. Ook de muren ertussen waren overal even groot. 11 Toen meette de man de deur van de poort. De deur was 10 el breed (5,3 m). De ruimte van de ene kamer tot de kamer er tegenover was 13 el (6,89 m). 12 Vóór de kamers was links en rechts een muurtje van 1 el (53 cm) hoog. Alle kamers waren vierkant: 6 el (3,18 m) breed en 6 el lang.
13 Daarna meette de man langs het dak de breedte van de poort, vanaf de achterwand van de kamers links tot aan de achterwand van de kamers rechts. Dat was 25 el (13,25 m). De ingangen van de kamers lagen recht tegenover elkaar. 14 Ook meette hij de rij pilaren die aan de ingang stonden aan de binnenzijde van de muur: 60 el (31,8 m). De poort werd omringd door het buitenplein waarop hij uitkwam. 15 De totale lengte van de poort, dus vanaf de buitenkant van de muur tot aan de andere ingang die op het plein uitkwam, was 50 el (26,5 m). 16 In de binnenmuren van de kamers waren dichte ramen gemaakt. Ook de portieken hadden ramen. De pilaren waren versierd met afbeeldingen van palmbomen.
17 Toen bracht de man me het buitenplein op. Langs het buitenplein waren kamers. En op de grond van het plein lagen tegels, het hele plein rond. Langs het plein waren 30 kamers, die uitkwamen op de tegels. 18 De tegels lagen vanaf de zijkanten van de poortgebouwen langs de muren. Zij vormden het beneden-terras.
19 Tegenover de oostpoort was nog een poort, naar het binnenplein. De man meette de afstand tussen die twee poorten: 100 el (53 m).
20 Ook tegenover de poort aan de noordkant was een poort naar het binnenplein. Ook die afstand was 100 el. Toen meette hij de poort aan de noordkant van het buitenplein. 21 Ook deze poort had aan elke kant drie kamers. De kamers, de muren en de voorhal hadden dezelfde maten als in de eerste poort. De poort was 50 el (26,5 m) lang en 25 (13,25 m) el breed. 22 Ook de ramen, de voorhal en de palmbomen hadden dezelfde maten als in de poort aan de oostkant. Er was een trap van zeven treden om in de poort te komen en naar de voorhal te gaan. 23 Net zoals bij de poort aan de oostkant was er op het buitenplein tegenover deze poort nóg een poort, naar het binnenplein. Van de poort in de buitenmuur tot aan de andere poort in de binnenmuur was 100 el (53 m).
24 Daarna nam de man me mee naar de zuidkant. Ook daar was een poort. Hij meette de muren en de voorhal. Ze hadden dezelfde maten als in de andere poorten. 25 Ook in deze poort waren aan alle kanten net zulke ramen als in de andere poorten. De poort was weer 50 el (26,5 m) lang en 25 el (13,25 m) breed. 26 Er was een trap van zeven treden om binnen te komen en naar de voorhal te gaan. Aan beide kanten waren de pilaren versierd met afbeeldingen van palmbomen. 27 Ook tegenover deze poort was er een poort in de muur van het binnenplein. Ook hier was de afstand 100 el (53 m).
De poorten naar het binnenplein
28 De man bracht me door deze poort aan de zuidkant naar het binnenplein. Hij meette de afmetingen van de poort. De maten waren hetzelfde als van de andere poorten. 29 Ook de kamers, muren en voorhal hadden dezelfde maten als in de andere poorten. Ook in deze poort waren aan alle kanten ramen. En ook deze poort was 50 el (26,5 m) lang en 25 el (13,25 m) breed. 30 Net zoals bij de andere poorten was de breedte 25 el (13,25 m) en de ruimte tussen de kamers 5 el (2,65 m). 31 De hal was aan de kant van het buitenplein. De pilaren waren versierd met afbeeldingen van palmbomen. Vóór de poort was een trap van acht treden.
32 Daarna bracht de man me naar de poort die aan de oostkant naar het binnenplein ging. Hij meette de afmetingen van de poort. Ook deze poort had dezelfde maten. 33 Ook de kamers, de muren en de hal hadden dezelfde maten als in de andere poorten. Ook hier waren aan alle kanten ramen. En ook deze poort was 50 el (26,5 m) lang en 25 el (13,25 m) breed. 34 De hal was aan de kant van het buitenplein. De pilaren waren versierd met afbeeldingen van palmbomen. Vóór de poort was een trap van acht treden.

De kamers en de tafels in en bij de poorten
38 Bij de pilaren van deze poort was links en rechts een kamer die werd gebruikt om het vlees voor de brand-offers af te spoelen. 39 In de voorhal van de poort stonden links en rechts twee tafels. Die waren voor het slachten van de dieren voor de brand-offers, vergevings-offers en schuld-offers. 40 Buiten deze poort, in de richting van de andere poort aan de noordkant, stonden ook aan elke kant van de poort twee tafels tegen de muur van de voorhal. 41 Zo waren er vier tafels aan elke kant van de poort, waarvan er twee binnen stonden en twee buiten. In totaal acht tafels waarop dieren geslacht konden worden. 42 De tafels voor de brand-offers waren van uitgehakte stenen gemaakt. Ze waren 1½ el (79,5 cm) lang, 1½ el breed en 1 el (53 cm) hoog. Daarop lagen de gereedschappen waarmee de dieren werden geslacht. 43 Rondom in de hal hingen haken van 1 hand breed (8,4 cm) aan de muren. De tafels waren om het vlees voor de offers op neer te leggen.
44 Twee kamers van de binnenste poort kwamen uit op het binnenplein. Die waren voor de zangers. Ze waren tegen de noordpoort aan gebouwd. De ene kamer was aan de noordkant van de poort en de andere aan de zuidkant van de poort. De kamer aan de noordkant had de ingang aan de zuidkant. De kamer aan de zuidkant had de ingang aan de noordkant. 45 De man zei tegen mij: "De kamer aan de noordkant is voor de priesters die in de tempel dienst doen. 46 De kamer aan de zuidkant is voor de priesters uit de familie van Zadok.[c] Zij zijn de enige Levieten die de offers mogen brengen."
47 Daarna meette hij het binnenplein. Het was 100 el (53 m) lang en 100 el (53 m) breed, dus vierkant. Op het binnenplein stond het tempelhuis. Vóór het tempelhuis stond het altaar.
Het tempelhuis
48 Toen bracht de man mij naar de voorhal van het tempelhuis. Hij meette een pilaar van de voorhal. Die was 5 el (2,65 m) dik. De pilaar aan de ene kant was 5 el dik en de pilaar aan de andere kant was 5 el dik. De ingang van de poort aan de ene kant was 3 el (1,59 m) breed en de ingang aan de andere kant van de poort was 3 el breed. 49 De hal was 20 el (10,6 m) lang en 11 el (5,83 m) breed. Je kwam er binnen via een aantal traptreden. Aan de linkerkant en aan de rechterkant van de ingang stond tegen de muur een pilaar. (lees verder)

- Ezechiël 40:46 Zadok was een van de belangrijkste priesters in de tijd van koning David. Toen er strijd ontstond over de troonopvolging, koos alleen Zadok de kant van Davids zoon Salomo. Salomo maakte hem daarom later hogepriester. Alle hogepriesters stammen van deze Zadok af.

The Temple Area Restored
40 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the fall of the city(A)—on that very day the hand of the Lord was on me(B) and he took me there. 2 In visions(C) of God he took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain,(D) on whose south side were some buildings that looked like a city. 3 He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze;(E) he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod(F) in his hand. 4 The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you,(G) for that is why you have been brought here. Tell(H) the people of Israel everything you see.(I)”
The East Gate to the Outer Court
5 I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area. The length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long cubits,[a] each of which was a cubit and a handbreadth. He measured(J) the wall; it was one measuring rod thick and one rod high.
6 Then he went to the east gate.(K) He climbed its steps and measured the threshold of the gate; it was one rod deep. 7 The alcoves(L) for the guards were one rod long and one rod wide, and the projecting walls between the alcoves were five cubits[b] thick. And the threshold of the gate next to the portico facing the temple was one rod deep.
8 Then he measured the portico of the gateway; 9 it[c] was eight cubits[d] deep and its jambs were two cubits[e] thick. The portico of the gateway faced the temple.
10 Inside the east gate were three alcoves on each side; the three had the same measurements, and the faces of the projecting walls on each side had the same measurements. 11 Then he measured the width of the entrance of the gateway; it was ten cubits and its length was thirteen cubits.[f] 12 In front of each alcove was a wall one cubit high, and the alcoves were six cubits square. 13 Then he measured the gateway from the top of the rear wall of one alcove to the top of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits[g] from one parapet opening to the opposite one. 14 He measured along the faces of the projecting walls all around the inside of the gateway—sixty cubits.[h] The measurement was up to the portico[i] facing the courtyard.[j](M) 15 The distance from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its portico was fifty cubits.[k] 16 The alcoves and the projecting walls inside the gateway were surmounted by narrow parapet openings all around, as was the portico; the openings all around faced inward. The faces of the projecting walls were decorated with palm trees.(N)
The Outer Court
17 Then he brought me into the outer court.(O) There I saw some rooms and a pavement that had been constructed all around the court; there were thirty rooms(P) along the pavement.(Q) 18 It abutted the sides of the gateways and was as wide as they were long; this was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court;(R) it was a hundred cubits[l](S) on the east side as well as on the north.
The North Gate
20 Then he measured the length and width of the north gate, leading into the outer court. 21 Its alcoves(T)—three on each side—its projecting walls and its portico(U) had the same measurements as those of the first gateway. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 22 Its openings, its portico(V) and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them.(W) 23 There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured from one gate to the opposite one; it was a hundred cubits.(X)
The South Gate
24 Then he led me to the south side and I saw the south gate. He measured its jambs and its portico, and they had the same measurements(Y) as the others. 25 The gateway and its portico had narrow openings all around, like the openings of the others. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(Z) 26 Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them; it had palm tree decorations on the faces of the projecting walls on each side.(AA) 27 The inner court(AB) also had a gate facing south, and he measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side; it was a hundred cubits.(AC)
The Gates to the Inner Court
28 Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate; it had the same measurements(AD) as the others. 29 Its alcoves,(AE) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(AF) 30 (The porticoes(AG) of the gateways around the inner court were twenty-five cubits wide and five cubits deep.) 31 Its portico(AH) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated its jambs, and eight steps led up to it.(AI)
32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gateway; it had the same measurements(AJ) as the others. 33 Its alcoves,(AK) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its portico(AL) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.
35 Then he brought me to the north gate(AM) and measured it. It had the same measurements(AN) as the others, 36 as did its alcoves,(AO) its projecting walls and its portico, and it had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 37 Its portico[m](AP) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.(AQ)
The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices
38 A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings(AR) were washed. 39 In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings,(AS) sin offerings[n](AT) and guilt offerings(AU) were slaughtered.(AV) 40 By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables. 41 So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. 42 There were also four tables of dressed stone(AW) for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high.[o] On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.(AX) 43 And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth[p] long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.
The Rooms for the Priests
44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one[q] at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south[r] gate and facing north. 45 He said to me, “The room facing south is for the priests who guard the temple,(AY) 46 and the room facing north(AZ) is for the priests who guard the altar.(BA) These are the sons of Zadok,(BB) who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.(BC)”
47 Then he measured the court: It was square—a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.(BD)
The New Temple
48 He brought me to the portico of the temple(BE) and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits[s] and its projecting walls were[t] three cubits[u] wide on either side. 49 The portico(BF) was twenty cubits[v] wide, and twelve[w] cubits[x] from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs,[y] and there were pillars(BG) on each side of the jambs.
