1 مِنْ بُولُسَ خَادِمِ اللهِ وَرَسُولِ يَسُوعَ المَسِيحِ. أرْسَلَنِي لِأُشَجِّعَ إيمَانَ أوْلَادِ اللهِ المُختَارِينَ، وَأُنَمِّي فِيهِمُ المَعْرِفَةَ الكَامِلَةَ، لِكَي يَعِيشُوا حَيَاةَ التَّقْوَى، 2 وَلَهُمُ الرَّجَاءُ بِالحَيَاةِ إلَى الأبَدِ، الحَيَاةِ الَّتِي وَعَدَ بِهَا اللهُ الَّذِي لَا يَكْذِبُ، قَبْلَ بَدءِ الزَّمَنِ. 3 وَفِي الوَقْتِ المُلَائِمِ، أعْلَنَ اللهُ رِسَالَتَهُ بِوَاسِطَةِ البِشَارَةِ الَّتِي ائتَمَنَنِي عَلَيْهَا بِأمْرِ اللهِ مُخَلِّصِنَا.
4 إلَى تِيطُسَ، ابْنِي الحَقِيقِيِّ فِي الإيمَانِ المُشتَرَكِ بَيْنَنَا. لِتَكُنْ لَكَ نِعْمَةٌ وَسَلَامٌ مِنَ اللهِ الآبِ، وَمِنَ المَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ مُخَلِّصِنَا.
خِدْمَةُ تِيْطُسَ فِي كِرِيت
5 لَقَدْ تَرَكتُكَ فِي جَزِيرَةِ كِرِيتَ لِكَي تُكمِلَ تَرْتِيبَ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي لَمْ تَكْتَمِلْ بَعْدُ، وَلِكَي تُعَيِّنَ شُيُوخًا[a] فِي كُلِّ مَدِينَةٍ كَمَا أوصَيتُكَ. 6 أمَّا الشَّيخُ فَيَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ بِلَا شَائِبَةٍ، زَوْجَ امْرأةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، وَأوْلَادُهُ مُؤمِنُونَ غَيْرُ مُتَّهَمِينَ بِسُلُوكٍ غَيْرِ أخلَاقِيٍّ أوْ تَمَرُّدٍ. 7 يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ المُشرِفُ بِلَا شَائِبَةٍ، لِأنَّهُ مُوكَلٌ عَلَى عَمَلِ اللهِ. كَمَا لَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ مُتَكَبِّرًا، أوْ سَرِيعَ الغَضَبِ، أوْ مُدمِنًا عَلَى الخَمْرِ، أوْ مَيَّالًا إلَى العُنفِ، أوْ مُحِبًّا لِلمَكسَبِ الدَّنِيءِ، 8 بَلْ مُضِيفًا لِلغُرَبَاءِ، مُحِبًّا لِلخَيرِ، حَكِيمًا، عَادِلًا، مُقَدَّسًا وَقَادِرًا عَلَى ضَبطِ نَفْسِهِ، 9 مُتَمَسِّكًا بِالرِّسَالَةِ الصَّادِقَةِ الَّتِي تَسَلَّمنَاهَا. وَهَكَذَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أنْ يُشَجِّعَ النَّاسَ بِالتَّعلِيمِ الصَّحِيحِ، وَأنْ يَرُدَّ عَلَى المُقَاوِمِينَ.
10 فَهُنَاكَ الكَثِيرُ مِنَ المُتَمَرِّدِينَ الَّذِينَ يُعَلِّمُونَ تَعَالِيمَ بَاطِلَةً، وَيَخْدَعُونَ الآخَرِينَ. وَأنَا أقصِدُ أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَ بِضَرورَةِ الخِتَانِ. 11 فَيَنْبَغِي أنْ تُسَدَّ أفوَاهُهُمْ، لِأنَّهُمْ يُدَمِّرُونَ عَائِلَاتٍ بِأكمَلِهَا بِتَعْلِيمِ أُمُورٍ خَاطِئَةٍ، مِنْ أجْلِ مَكَاسِبَ دَنِيئَةٍ. 12 حَتَّى إنَّ وَاحِدًا مِنْهُمْ، يَعْتَبِرُونَهُ نَبِيًّا لَهُمْ، قَالَ:
«أهْلُ كِرِيتَ كَذَّابُونَ دَائِمًا،
وُحُوشٌ شِرِّيرَةٌ،
شَرِهُونَ وَكُسَالَى!»
13 وَهَذِهِ شَهَادَةٌ صَادِقَةٌ. لِذَلِكَ وَبِّخْهُمْ بِشِدَّةٍ لِكَي يَتْبَعُوا الإيمَانَ الحَقِيقِيَّ. 14 فَلَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَنْشَغِلُوا فِيمَا بَعْدُ بِخُرَافَاتٍ يَهُودِيَّةٍ، أوْ بِوَصَايَا بَشَرِيَّةٍ يَضَعُهَا رَافِضُو الحَقِّ.
15 فَكُلُّ شَيءٍ طَاهِرٌ بِالنِّسبَةِ لِلطَّاهِرِينَ. أمَّا بِالنِّسبَةِ لِلنَّجِسِينَ، فَمَا مِنْ شَيءٍ طَاهِرٍ، بَلْ إنَّ عُقُولَهُمْ وَضَمَائِرَهُمْ قَدْ تَنَجَّسَتْ أيْضًا. 16 يُؤَكِّدُونَ أنَّهُمْ يَعْرِفُونَ اللهَ، لَكِنَّهُمْ يُنكِرُونَ ذَلِكَ بِأعْمَالِهِمْ. فَهُمْ رَدِيئُونَ غَيْرُ مُطِيعِينَ، وَعَاجِزِونَ عَنْ عَمَلِ أيِّ شَيءٍ صَالِحٍ.

1 Paolo, servo di Dio e apostolo di Gesú Cristo, secondo la fede degli eletti di Dio e la conoscenza della verità che è secondo pietà,
2 nella speranza della vita eterna, promessa prima di tutte le età da Dio, che non può mentire,
3 e che nei tempi stabiliti ha manifestato la sua parola mediante la predicazione che mi è stata affidata per comando di Dio, nostro Salvatore,
4 a Tito, mio vero figlio nella comune fede: grazia, misericordia e pace da Dio il Padre e dal Signor Gesú Cristo, nostro Salvatore.
5 Per questa ragione ti ho lasciato a Creta, affinché tu metta ordine alle cose che restano da fare e costituisca degli anziani in ogni città, come ti ho ordinato;
6 ciascuno di loro sia irreprensibile, marito di una sola moglie, e abbia figli fedeli che non siano accusati di dissolutezza né insubordinati.
7 Il vescovo infatti, come amministratore della casa di Dio, deve essere irreprensibile, non arrogante, non iracondo, non dedito al vino, non violento, non avido di disonesto guadagno,
8 ma ospitale, amante del bene, assennato, giusto, santo, padrone di sé,
9 che ritenga fermamente l'insegnamento secondo la fedele parola, per essere in grado di esortare nella sana dottrina e di convincere quelli che contraddicono.
10 Vi sono infatti, specialmente fra coloro che provengono dalla circoncisione, molti insubordinati, ciarloni e seduttori, ai quali bisogna turare la bocca;
11 questi sovvertono famiglie intere, insegnando cose che non dovrebbero, per amore di disonesto guadagno.
12 Uno di loro, proprio un loro profeta, ha detto: «I Cretesi sono sempre bugiardi, male bestie, ventri pigri».
13 Questa testimonianza è vera, per questo motivo riprendili severamente, affinché siano sani nella fede,
14 senza attenersi a favole giudaiche né a comandamenti di uomini che rifiutano la verità.
15 Certo, tutto è puro per i puri, ma niente è puro per i contaminati e gli increduli; anzi, sia la loro mente che la loro coscienza sono contaminate.
16 Essi fanno professione di conoscere Dio, ma lo rinnegano con le opere, essendo abominevoli, disubbidienti, e incapaci di ogni opera buona.

1 Paul, a servant of God(A) and an apostle(B) of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth(C) that leads to godliness(D)— 2 in the hope of eternal life,(E) which God, who does not lie,(F) promised before the beginning of time,(G) 3 and which now at his appointed season(H) he has brought to light(I) through the preaching entrusted to me(J) by the command of God(K) our Savior,(L)
4 To Titus,(M) my true son(N) in our common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.(O)
Appointing Elders Who Love What Is Good(P)
5 The reason I left you in Crete(Q) was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders(R) in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless,(S) faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseer(T) manages God’s household,(U) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.(V) 8 Rather, he must be hospitable,(W) one who loves what is good,(X) who is self-controlled,(Y) upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly(Z) to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine(AA) and refute those who oppose it.
Rebuking Those Who Fail to Do Good
10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk(AB) and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.(AC) 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households(AD) by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets(AE) has said it: “Cretans(AF) are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”[c] 13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke(AG) them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith(AH) 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths(AI) or to the merely human commands(AJ) of those who reject the truth.(AK) 15 To the pure, all things are pure,(AL) but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.(AM) In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.(AN) 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.(AO) They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.(AP)

3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
