القَادَةُ فِي الكَنِيسَة
3 هَذَا قَولٌ جَدِيرٌ بِالثِّقَةِ: إنْ كَانَ أحَدٌ يَرْغَبُ بِأنْ يَكُونَ مُشرِفًا،[a] فَإنَّ رَغبَتَهُ هَذِهِ نَبِيلَةٌ. 2 لَكِنْ يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَحيَا الشَّيخُ[b] حَيَاةً لَا تُعطِي مَجَالًا لِلِانتِقَادِ، وَأنْ لَا يَكُونَ مُتَزَوِّجًا مِنْ أكْثَرِ مِنِ امْرأةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، مُعتَدِلًا مُتَعَقِّلًا وَقُورًا وَمِضيَافًا. وَلَا بُدَّ أنْ يَكُونَ مُعَلِّمًا قَدِيرًا. 3 وَلَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ مُولَعًا بِالخَمْرِ أوْ مَيَّالًا إلَى العُنفِ، بَلْ لَطِيفًا وَمُسَالِمًا وَغَيْرَ مُحِبٍّ لِلمَالِ. 4 وَيَنْبَغِي أنْ يُدِيرَ شُؤونَ بَيْتِهِ حَسَنًا، وَأنْ يَكُونَ أبنَاؤُهُ خَاضِعِينَ لَهُ فِي احتِرَامٍ كَامِلٍ. 5 فَإنْ كَانَ أحَدٌ يَجْهَلُ كَيْفَ يُدِيرُ بَيْتَهُ، كَيْفَ نَتَوَقَّعُ مِنْهُ أنْ يَرْعَى كَنِيسَةَ اللهِ؟ 6 كَذَلِكَ لَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ حَدِيثًا فِي الإيمَانِ، لِئَلَّا يَنْتَفِخَ بِالكِبرِيَاءِ فَيَقَعُ عَلَيْهِ الحُكْمُ الَّذِي وَقَعَ عَلَى إبْلِيسَ. 7 كَمَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَتَمَتَّعَ بِسُمعَةٍ حَسَنَةٍ عِنْدَ غَيْرِ المُؤمِنِينَ، لِئَلَّا يَجْلِبَ الانْتِقَادَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَيَقَعَ فِي فَخِّ إبْلِيسَ.
الخُدَّامُ فِي الكَنِيسَة
8 كَذَلِكَ يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ الخُدَّامُ المُعَيَّنُونَ فِي خِدْمَاتٍ خَاصَّةٍ جَدِيرِينَ بِالِاحتِرَامِ، وَكَلِمَتُهُمْ جَدِيرَةً بِالثِّقَةِ، غَيْرَ مَيَّالِينَ إلَى الإفرَاطِ فِي الشُّربِ، أوْ مُولَعِينَ بِالمَكَاسِبِ غَيْرِ الشَّرِيفَةِ، 9 مُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِحَقَائِقِ إيمَانِنَا العَمِيقَةِ بِضَمِيرٍ نَقِيٍّ. 10 كَمَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَتِمَّ اختِبَارُ هَؤُلَاءِ أوَّلًا، كَمَا هُوَ الحَالُ مَعَ المُشرِفِينَ. فَإذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ هُنَاكَ مَأخَذٌ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَلْيَخْدِمُوا فِي خِدْمَاتِهِمُ الخَاصَّةِ.
11 كَذَلِكَ يَنْبَغِي أنْ تَكُونَ النِّسَاءُ[c] جَدِيرَاتٍ بِالِاحْتِرَامِ. فَلَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُنَّ نَمَّامَاتٍ وَمُفتَرِيَاتٍ، بَلْ مُعتَدِلَاتٍ وَجَدِيرَاتٍ بِالثِّقَةِ فِي كُلِّ شَيءٍ.
12 أمَّا أُولَئِكَ الخُدَّامُ فَيَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونُوا مُخْلِصِينَ لِزَوْجَاتِهِمْ، وَقَادِرِينَ عَلَى الاهتِمَامِ بِالأطْفَالِ وَبِأهْلِ بَيْتِهِمْ. 13 فَالَّذِينَ يَخْدِمُونَ خِدْمَةً حَسَنَةً مِنْ هَذَا النَّوعِ يَنَالُونَ مَنزِلَةً حَسَنَةً، وَثِقَةً فِي إيمَانِهِمْ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ.
سِرُّ حَيَاتِنَا
14 أكتُبُ إلَيْكَ هَذِهِ الأُمُورَ رُغْمَ أنِّي آمُلُ أنْ آتِيَ لِرُؤيَتِكَ سَرِيعًا. 15 لَكِنْ إذَا تَأخَّرتُ فِي مَجِيئِي، سَتُعلِمُكَ هَذِهِ الرِّسَالَةُ كَيْفَ يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَتَصَرَّفَ المُؤمِنُ فِي بَيْتِ اللهِ، أيْ كَنِيسَةِ اللهِ الحَيِّ، دَعَامَةِ الحَقِّ وَقَاعِدَتِهِ. 16 وَبِلَا شَكٍّ، فَإنَّ سِرَّ حَيَاتِنَا فِي عِبَادَةِ اللهِ سِرٌّ عَظِيمٌ:
اللهُ ظَهَرَ فِي جَسَدٍ بَشَرِيٍّ،
شَهِدَ الرُّوحُ لِبِرِّهِ،
رَأتْهُ مَلَائِكَةٌ،
بُشِّرَ بِهِ بَيْنَ الشُّعُوبِ،
آمَنَ العَالَمُ بِهِ،
وَرُفِعَ إلَى السَّمَاءِ فِي مَجدٍ.

Qualifications of Overseers
3 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a [a]bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not [b]given to wine, not violent, [c]not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not [d]covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 not a [e]novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the (A)snare of the devil.
Qualifications of Deacons
8 Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, (B)not given to much wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the [f]mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. 10 But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. 11 Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not [g]slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For those who have served well as deacons (C)obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
The Great Mystery
14 These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; 15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and [h]ground of the truth. 16 And without controversy great is the [i]mystery of godliness:
(D)God[j] was manifested in the flesh,
(E)Justified in the Spirit,
(F)Seen by angels,
(G)Preached among the Gentiles,
(H)Believed on in the world,
(I)Received up in glory.

3 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

3 Adevărat(A) este cuvântul acesta: „Dacă râvneşte cineva să fie episcop[a](B), doreşte un lucru(C) bun”. 2 Dar trebuie ca episcopul[b](D) să fie fără prihană, bărbatul(E) unei singure neveste, cumpătat, înţelept, vrednic de cinste, primitor de oaspeţi, în stare(F) să înveţe pe alţii. 3 Să nu fie nici beţiv(G), nici bătăuş(H), nici(I) doritor de câştig mârşav, ci să fie blând(J), nu gâlcevitor, nu iubitor de bani; 4 să-şi chivernisească bine casa şi să-şi ţină(K) copiii în supunere cu toată cuviinţa. 5 Căci dacă cineva nu ştie să-şi cârmuiască bine casa lui, cum va îngriji de Biserica lui Dumnezeu? 6 Să nu fie întors la Dumnezeu de curând, ca nu cumva să se îngâmfe şi să(L)cadă în osânda diavolului. 7 Trebuie să aibă şi o bună mărturie din(M) partea celor de afară, pentru ca să nu ajungă de ocară şi(N) să cadă în cursa diavolului. 8 Diaconii(O), de asemenea, trebuie să fie cinstiţi, nu cu două feţe, nu(P) băutori de mult vin, nu doritori de câştig mârşav, 9 ci să păstreze(Q) taina credinţei într-un cuget curat. 10 Trebuie cercetaţi întâi şi, numai dacă sunt fără prihană, să fie diaconi. 11 Femeile, de asemenea(R), trebuie să fie cinstite, neclevetitoare, cumpătate, credincioase în toate lucrurile. 12 Diaconii să fie bărbaţi ai unei singure neveste şi să ştie să-şi cârmuiască bine copiii şi casele lor. 13 Pentru că cei ce(S) slujesc bine ca diaconi dobândesc un loc de cinste şi o mare îndrăzneală în credinţa care este în Hristos Isus. 14 Îţi scriu aceste lucruri cu nădejdea că voi veni în curând la tine. 15 Dar, dacă voi zăbovi, să ştii cum trebuie să te porţi în(T) casa lui Dumnezeu, care este Biserica Dumnezeului celui viu, stâlpul şi temelia adevărului. 16 Şi, fără îndoială, mare este taina evlaviei… „Cel ce(U) a fost arătat în trup a fost dovedit(V) neprihănit în Duhul, a fost văzut(W) de îngeri, a fost propovăduit(X) printre neamuri, a fost crezut(Y) în lume, a fost înălţat(Z) în slavă.”
