32 وَبَعْدَ كُلِّ مَا قَامَ بِهِ حَزَقِيَّا بِأَمَانَةٍ، زَحَفَ سِنْحَارِيبُ عَلَى أَرْضِ يَهُوذَا وَدَخَلَهَا، وَحَاصَرَ الْمُدُنَ الْحَصِينَةَ طَمَعاً فِي الاسْتِيلاءِ عَلَيْهَا. 2 وَعِنْدَمَا رَأَى حَزَقِيَّا أَنَّ سِنْحَارِيبَ قَدْ وَطَّدَ الْعَزْمَ عَلَى مُحَارَبَةِ أُورُشَلِيمَ، 3 تَدَاوَلَ فِي الأَمْرِ مَعَ رُؤَسَاءِ جَيْشِهِ وَزُعَمَاءِ الْبِلادِ، وَاتَّفَقُوا عَلَى رَدْمِ مِيَاهِ الْعُيُونِ الْقَائِمَةِ خَارِجَ الْمَدِينَةِ، فَأَعَانُوهُ. 4 وَتَجَمَّعَ جُمْهُورٌ غَفِيرٌ، رَدَمُوا جَمِيعَ الْيَنَابِيعِ وَالنَّهْرَ الْجَارِيَ فِي وَسَطِ الأَرْضِ قَائِلِينَ: «لِمَاذَا يَأْتِي مُلُوكُ أَشُّورَ وَيَجِدُونَ مِيَاهاً غَزِيرَةً؟» 5 وَتَشَجَّعَ وَرَمَّمَ السُّورَ الْمُنْهَدِمَ، وَعَزَّزَهُ بِالأَبْرَاجِ الْمُرْتَفِعَةِ، وَبَنَى سُوراً آخَرَ خَارِجَهُ، وَحَصَّنَ قَلْعَةَ مَدِينَةِ دَاوُدَ، وَصَنَعَ أَسْلِحَةً كَثِيرَةً وَأَتْرَاساً. 6 وَعَبَّأَ كُلَّ شَعْبِ الْمَدِينَةِ تَحْتَ قِيَادَةِ ضُبَّاطِ الْجَيْشِ، وَاسْتَدْعَاهُمْ إِلَى سَاحَةِ بَابِ الْمَدِينَةِ لِيَبُثَّ فِيهِمِ الشَّجَاعَةَ قَائِلاً لَهُمْ: 7 «تَقَوَّوْا وَتَشَجَّعُوا، لَا تَجْزَعُوا وَلا تَرْتَعِبُوا مِنْ مَلِكِ أَشُّورَ وَلا مِنْ كُلِّ الْجَيْشِ الَّذِي مَعَهُ، لأَنَّ الَّذِي مَعَنَا أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الَّذِي مَعَهُ. 8 فَمَعَهُ قُوىً بَشَرِيَّةٌ، وَمَعَنَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا لِيُنْجِدَنَا وَيُحَارِبَ حُرُوبَنَا». فَبَثَّ كَلامُ حَزَقِيَّا الشَّجَاعَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ الشَّعْبِ.
9 وَفِيمَا كَانَ سِنْحَارِيبُ وَجَيْشُهُ يُحَاصِرُونَ لَخِيشَ، أَرْسَلَ رِجَالَهُ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ إِلَى حَزَقِيَّا مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا وَإِلَى أَهْلِ أُورُشَلِيمَ قَائِلِينَ: 10 «هَذَا مَا يَقُولُهُ سِنْحَارِيبُ مَلِكُ أَشُّورَ: عَلَى مَاذَا تَتَّكِلُونَ فَتُقِيمُوا فِي أُورُشَلِيمَ تَحْتَ الْحِصَارِ؟ 11 أَلا يُغْوِيكُمْ حَزَقِيَّا لِكَيْ تَمُوتُوا جُوعاً وَعَطَشاً، عِنْدَمَا يَقُولُ لَكُمْ: الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا يُنْقِذُنَا مِنْ يَدِ مَلِكِ أَشُورَ؟ 12 أَلَيْسَ حَزَقِيَّا هُوَ الَّذِي أَزَالَ مُرْتَفَعَاتِهِ وَمَذَابِحَهُ، وَأَمَرَ يَهُوذَا وَأُورُشَلِيمَ قَائِلاً: أَمَامَ مَذْبَحٍ وَاحِدٍ تَسْجُدُونَ وَعَلَيْهِ تُوْقِدُونَ؟ 13 أَمَا تَعْرِفُونَ مَا أَجْرَيْتُهُ أَنَا وَآبَائِي عَلَى جَمِيعِ أُمَمِ الأَرَاضِي، فَهَلِ اسْتَطَاعَتْ آلِهَتُهَا أَنْ تُنْقِذَ أَرْضَهَا مِنْ يَدِي؟ 14 مَنْ مِنْ بَيْنِ جَمِيعِ آلِهَةِ هَؤُلاءِ الأُمَمِ الَّذِينَ دَمَّرَهُمْ آبَائِي اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يُنْقِذَ شَعْبَهُ مِنِّي؟ فَكَيْفَ يَسْتَطِيعُ إِلَهُكُمْ أَنْ يُنْقِذَكُمْ مِنْ يَدِي؟ 15 لِذَلِكَ لَا يَخْدَعَنَّكُمْ حَزَقِيَّا وَلا يُغْوِيَنَّكُمْ. لَا تُصَدِّقُوهُ لأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقْدِرْ إِلَهُ أَيِّ أُمَّةٍ أَوْ مَمْلَكَةٍ أَنْ يُنَجِّيَ شَعْبَهُ مِنْ يَدِي وَمِنْ يَدِ آبَائِي، فَكَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ لإِلَهِكُمْ أَنْ يُنَجِّيَكُمْ؟» 16 وَأَكْثَرَ الضُّبَّاطُ الأَشُّورِيُّونَ مِنَ التَّهَجُّمِ عَلَى الرَّبِّ وَعَلَى عَبْدِهِ حَزَقِيَّا.
17 وَكَتَبَ الْمَلِكُ الأَشُّورِيُّ رَسَائِلَ عَيَّرَ فِيهَا الرَّبَّ إِلَهَ إِسْرَائِيلَ، جَاءَ فِيهَا: «كَمَا أَنَّ آلِهَةَ أُمَمِ الأَرْضِ عَجَزَتْ عَنْ إِنْقَاذِ شُعُوبِهَا مِنْ يَدِي، كَذَلِكَ لَا يُنْقِذُ إِلَهُ حَزَقِيَّا شَعْبَهُ مِنْ يَدِي». 18 وَهَتَفَ رِجَالُ سِنْحَارِيبَ بِالْيَهُودِيَّةِ مُخَاطِبِينَ أَهْلَ أُورُشَلِيمَ الْوَاقِفِينَ عَلَى السُّورِ، لِيُوْقِعُوا فِيهِمِ الرُّعْبَ وَالْخَوْفَ، تَمْهِيداً لِلاسْتِيلاءِ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، 19 وَكَانَ تَهَجُّمُهُمْ عَلَى الرَّبِّ إِلَهِ أُورُشَلِيمَ مُمَاثِلاً لِتَهَجُّمِهِمْ عَلَى أَصْنَامِ الشُّعُوبِ الأُخْرَى الَّتِي صَنَعَتْهَا أَيْدِي النَّاسِ.
20 فَصَلَّى حَزَقِيَّا الْمَلِكُ وَإِشَعْيَاءُ بْنُ آمُوصَ النَّبِيُّ، وَاسْتَغَاثَا بِالسَّمَاءِ مِنْ جَرَّاءِ ذَلِكَ، 21 فَأَرْسَلَ الرَّبُّ مَلاكاً فَأَبَادَ كُلَّ بَطَلٍ شُجَاعٍ وَرَئِيسٍ وَقَائِدٍ فِي مُعَسْكَرِ مَلِكِ أَشُورَ، فَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَرْضِهِ مَخْذُولاً. وَعِنْدَمَا دَخَلَ مَعْبَدَ إِلَهِهِ اغْتَالَهُ هُنَاكَ أَوْلادُهُ بِالسَّيْفِ 22 وَهَكَذَا أَنْقَذَ الرَّبُّ حَزَقِيَّا وَسُكَّانَ أُورُشَلِيمَ مِنْ سِنْحَارِيبَ مَلِكِ أَشُورَ وَمِنْ أَيْدِي سِوَاهُ مِنَ الأَعْدَاءِ، وَوَقَاهُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ نَاحِيَةٍ. 23 وَأَتَى كَثِيرُونَ بِتَقْدِمَاتٍ لِلرَّبِّ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ، وَبِتُحَفٍ لِحَزَقِيَّا مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا، وَارْتَفَعَتْ مَكَانَتُهُ فِي أَعْيُنِ جَمِيعِ الأُمَمِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.
كبرياء حزقيا ونجاحه وموته
24 فِي تِلْكَ الأَيَّامِ مَرِضَ حَزَقِيَّا إِلَى أَنْ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ، وَصَلَّى إِلَى الرَّبِّ، فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ وَأَعْطَاهُ عَلامَةً تَأْكِيداً لِشِفَائِهِ. 25 وَلَكِنَّ حَزَقِيَّا لَمْ يَتَجَاوَبْ مَعَ مَا أَبْدَاهُ اللهُ نَحْوَهُ مِنْ نِعَمٍ، إِذِ امْتَلأَ قَلْبُهُ كِبْرِيَاءَ، فَغَضِبَ الرَّبُّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى يَهُوذَا وَأُورُشَلِيمَ. 26 ثُمَّ اتَّضَعَ حَزَقِيَّا بَعْدَ كِبْرِيَائِهِ، هُوَ وَأَهْلُ أُورُشَلِيمَ، فَلَمْ يَحُلَّ بِهِمْ غَضَبُ الرَّبِّ فِي أَيَّامِ حَزَقِيَّا.
27 وَأَحْرَزَ حَزَقِيَّا غِنىً وَمَجْداً عَظِيمَيْنِ، وَبَنَى لِنَفْسِهِ مَخَازِنَ لِلْفِضَّةِ وَالذَّهَبِ وَالْحِجَارَةِ الْكَرِيمَةِ وَالأَطْيَابِ وَالأَتْرَاسِ وَكُلِّ آنِيَةٍ ثَمِينَةٍ، 28 وَمَخَازِنَ لِمَحَاصِيلِ الْحِنْطَةِ، وَنِتَاجِ الْكَرْمَةِ وَالزَّيْتِ، وَمَرَابِطَ لِكُلِّ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَهَائِمِ وَحَظَائِرَ لِلْقُطْعَانِ. 29 وَبَنَى لِنَفْسِهِ قُرىً، وَامْتَلَكَ مَوَاشِيَ غَنَمٍ وَبَقَرٍ بِوَفْرَةٍ، لأَنَّ اللهَ أَغْدَقَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْوَالاً كَثِيرَةً جِدّاً. 30 وَهُوَ الَّذِي سَدَّ مَخْرَجَ مِيَاهِ جَدْوَلِ جِيحُونَ الأَعْلَى، وَحَوَّلَهُ إِلَى قَنَاةٍ تَحْتَ الأَرْضِ، تَمْتَدُّ إِلَى الْجِهَةِ الْغَرْبِيَّةِ فِي مَدِينَةِ دَاوُدَ. وَلَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ حَزَقِيَّا فِي كُلِّ عَمَلٍ قَامَ بِهِ.
31 وَلَكِنْ عِنْدَمَا وَفَدَ عَلَيْهِ مَبْعُوثُو مُلُوكِ بَابِلَ لِيَسْتَعْلِمُوا مِنْهُ عَنْ مُعْجِزَةِ شِفَائِهِ، تَرَكَهُ اللهُ لِيَخْتَبِرَ سَرَائِرَ قَلْبِهِ. 32 أَمَّا بَقِيَّةُ أَخْبَارِ حَزَقِيَّا فَهِيَ مُدَوَّنَةٌ فِي رُؤْيَا إِشَعْيَاءَ بْنِ آمُوصَ النَّبِيِّ، وَفِي كِتَابِ تَارِيخِ مُلُوكِ يَهُوذَا وَإِسْرَائِيلَ. 33 ثُمَّ مَاتَ حَزَقِيَّا فَدَفَنُوهُ فِي الْجُزْءِ الأَعْلَى مِنْ مَقَابِرِ بَيْتِ دَاوُدَ، فَكَرَّمَهُ كُلُّ أَهْلِ أُورُشَلِيمَ وَيَهُوذَا عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ، وَخَلَفَهُ ابْنُهُ مَنَسَّى عَلَى الْمُلْكِ.

Sennacherib Boasts Against the Lord(A)
32 After (B)these deeds of faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered Judah; he encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them over to himself. 2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that his purpose was to make war against Jerusalem, 3 he consulted with his leaders and [a]commanders to stop the water from the springs which were outside the city; and they helped him. 4 Thus many people gathered together who stopped all the (C)springs and the brook that ran through the land, saying, “Why should the [b]kings of Assyria come and find much water?” 5 And (D)he strengthened himself, (E)built up all the wall that was broken, raised it up to the towers, and built another wall outside; also he repaired [c]the (F)Millo in the City of David, and made [d]weapons and shields in abundance. 6 Then he set military captains over the people, gathered them together to him in the open square of the city gate, and (G)gave them encouragement, saying, 7 (H)“Be strong and courageous; (I)do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for (J)there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an (K)arm of flesh; but (L)with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 (M)After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem (but he and all the forces with him laid siege against Lachish), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were in Jerusalem, saying, 10 (N)“Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria: ‘In what do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem? 11 Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give yourselves over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, (O)“The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria”? 12 (P)Has not the same Hezekiah taken away His high places and His altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, “You shall worship before one altar and burn incense on (Q)it”? 13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? (R)Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their lands out of my hand? 14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my (S)hand? 15 Now therefore, (T)do not let Hezekiah deceive you or persuade you like this, and do not believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?’ ”
16 Furthermore, his servants spoke against the Lord God and against His servant Hezekiah.
17 He also wrote letters to revile the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, (U)“As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my (V)hand.” 18 (W)Then they called out with a loud voice in [e]Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and trouble them, that they might take the city. 19 And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth—(X)the work of men’s hands.
Sennacherib’s Defeat and Death(Y)
20 (Z)Now because of this King Hezekiah and (AA)the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. 21 (AB)Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned (AC)shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.
22 Thus the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and [f]guided them on every side. 23 And many brought gifts to the Lord at Jerusalem, and (AD)presents[g] to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was (AE)exalted in the sight of all nations thereafter.
Hezekiah Humbles Himself(AF)
24 (AG)In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death, and he prayed to the Lord; and He spoke to him and gave him a sign. 25 But Hezekiah (AH)did not repay according to the favor shown him, for (AI)his heart was lifted up; (AJ)therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem. 26 (AK)Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them (AL)in the days of Hezekiah.
Hezekiah’s Wealth and Honor(AM)
27 Hezekiah had very great riches and honor. And he made himself treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of desirable items; 28 storehouses for the harvest of grain, wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of livestock, and [h]folds for flocks. 29 Moreover he provided cities for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for (AN)God had given him very much property. 30 (AO)This same Hezekiah also stopped the water outlet of Upper Gihon, and [i]brought the water by tunnel to the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah (AP)prospered in all his works.
31 However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they (AQ)sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to (AR)test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.
Death of Hezekiah
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, indeed they are written in (AS)the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the (AT)book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 33 (AU)So Hezekiah [j]rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the upper tombs of the sons of David; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem (AV)honored him at his death. Then Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

Sennacherib Invades Judah
32 (A)After these things and these acts of faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them for himself. 2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and intended to fight against Jerusalem, 3 he planned with his officers and his mighty men to stop the water of the springs that were outside the city; and they helped him. 4 A great many people were gathered, and they stopped all the springs and (B)the brook that flowed through the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?” 5 He set to work resolutely and built up (C)all the wall that was broken down and raised towers upon it,[a] and outside it he built another wall, and he strengthened the (D)Millo in the city of David. He also made weapons and shields in abundance. 6 And he set combat commanders over the people and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke (E)encouragingly to them, saying, 7 (F)“Be strong and courageous. (G)Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, (H)for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is (I)an arm of flesh, (J)but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Sennacherib Blasphemes
9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent his servants to Jerusalem to Hezekiah king of Judah and to all the people of Judah who were in Jerusalem, saying, 10 “Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, ‘On what are you trusting, that you endure the siege in Jerusalem? 11 Is not Hezekiah misleading you, that he may give you over to die by famine and by thirst, when he tells you, “The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria”? 12 (K)Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, “Before one altar you shall worship, and on it you shall burn your sacrifices”? 13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to deliver their lands out of my hand? 14 Who among all the gods of those nations that my fathers devoted to destruction was able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand? 15 Now, therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this fashion, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand!’”
16 And his servants said still more against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah. 17 And he wrote letters to cast contempt on the Lord, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “Like the gods of the nations of the lands who have not delivered their people from my hands, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver his people from my hand.” 18 And they shouted it with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them, in order that they might take the city. 19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.
The Lord Delivers Jerusalem
20 Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven. 21 And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with (L)shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword. 22 So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and he provided for them on every side. 23 And many (M)brought gifts to the Lord to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from that time onward.
Hezekiah's Pride and Achievements
24 (N)In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he answered him and gave him a sign. 25 But Hezekiah (O)did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for (P)his heart was proud. Therefore (Q)wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem. 26 But Hezekiah (R)humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor, and he made for himself treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of (S)costly vessels; 28 storehouses also for the yield of grain, wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and sheepfolds. 29 He likewise provided cities for himself, and flocks and herds in abundance, for God had given him very great possessions. 30 This same Hezekiah (T)closed the upper outlet of the waters of (U)Gihon and directed them down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. 31 And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, (V)who had been sent to him to inquire about (W)the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, (X)in order to test him and to know all that was in his heart.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written (Y)in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, (Z)in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. 33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the (AA)upper part of the tombs of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
