새로운 돌판
(신 10:1-5)
34 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 돌판 두 개를 처음 것과 같이 깎아라. 그러면 네가 깨뜨린 처음 두 개의 돌판에 있던 말을 다시 새겨 주겠다. 2 너는 그것을 아침까지 준비하여 아침 일찍 시내 산 위로 올라와서 산꼭대기에서 나를 기다려라. 3 어느 누구도 너를 따라오거나 산 어느 곳에서라도 그 모습이 내 눈에 띄어서는 안 된다. 양 떼나 소 떼도 산기슭에서 풀을 뜯어서는 안 된다.”
4 그리하여 모세가 돌판 두 개를 처음 것들처럼 깎았다. 그러고는 주께서 명령하신 대로 아침 일찍 시내 산 위로 올라갔다. 그의 손에는 두 개의 돌판이 들려 있었다. 5 주께서 구름에 싸여 내려오셔서 모세와 함께 그곳에 서시고 당신의 이름 ‘야훼’를 선포하셨다[a].
6 주께서 모세 앞으로 지나가시면서 선포하셨다.
“야훼, 나 주는 자비롭고 은혜로운 하나님이다.
나는 성 내기는 더디하고 한결같은 사랑과 신실함이 풍성한 하나님이다.
7 수천 대에 이르기까지 한결같은 사랑을 베풀고
불의와 반역과 죄를 용서하는 하나님이다.
그러나 나는 죄 있는 사람을 벌하지 않고 그냥 내버려 두지 않는다.
부모가 죄를 지으면 나는 삼사 대 자손에 이르기까지 벌을 내린다.”
8 그러자 모세가 급히 땅에 엎드려 주께 경배하며 9 아뢰었다. “오, 주님, 제가 당신의 눈에 드셨으면 우리와 함께 가 주십시오. 비록 이 백성이 고집 센 백성이긴 하나 주께서 우리의 악과 우리의 죄를 용서해 주시고 우리를 주의 소유로 삼아 주십시오.”
10 주께서 말씀하셨다. “내가 너희와 계약을 맺으려한다. 내가 네 백성 앞에서 기적을 베풀겠다. 이 세상 어느 민족들 가운데서도 해 보인 적이 없는 기적을 베풀어 보이겠다. 네 둘레에 사는 모든 사람이 나 주가 하는 일을 볼 것이다. 내가 하려는 일은 무섭고 두려운 일이기 때문이다. 11 너희는 내가 오늘 너희에게 명하는 것을 그대로 지켜라. 내가 너희 앞에서 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람, 헷 사람과 브리스 사람, 히위 사람과 여부스 사람을 쫓아내겠다. 12 너희는 너희가 들어가려는 땅에서 살고 있던 사람들과는 아무런 계약도 맺지 말아라. 그렇게 하지 않으면 그들이 너희 가운데서 올무가 될 것이다. 13 너는 그들의 제단을 부수고 그들의 석상을 무너뜨려라. 또 그들의 아세라 장대들도 찍어버려라. 14 다른 어떤 신에게도 절하지 말아라. 나 주는 ‘질투’라는 이름을 가진 질투하는 하나님이다.
15 그러므로 너는 그 땅에 사는 사람들과 어떤 계약도 맺지 말아라. 그들은 자기네 신들을 섬기며 그 신들에게 제물을 바칠 것이다[b]. 만약 네가 그 사람들과 계약을 맺으면 그들이 너를 초대할 것이고 너는 그 제물을 먹게 될 것이다. 16 그리고 네가 그들의 딸들을 며느리로 맞아들이면 그 여자들이 자기네 신들을 섬길 것이다[c]. 그러면서 네 아들들도 끌어들여 꼭 같은 짓을 하게 만들 것이다.
17 너는 결코 네 자신을 위하여 우상을 만들어서는 안 된다.
18 너는 누룩 없는 빵 먹는 명절을 지켜야 한다. 아빕월 정해진 때에 내가 명한 대로 이레 동안 누룩을 넣지 않은 빵을 먹어야 한다. 바로 그 달에 네가 이집트 땅에서 나왔기 때문이다.
19 처음 태를 열고 나온 것은 모두 나 주의 것이다. 네 가축 가운데 소나 양이나 처음 태어난 수컷은 모두 내 것이다. 20 처음 태어난 나귀 새끼는 양을 대신 바쳐서 되살 수 있다[d]. 그렇게 하지 않으려면 나귀의 목을 부러뜨려야 한다. 네 아들들 가운데 맏아들은 나에게 값을 치르고 되사야 한다. 그리고 어느 누구도 내 앞에 빈손으로 나와서는 안 된다.
21 너는 엿새 동안 일하고 이렛날에는 쉬어야 한다. 밭 가는 철에나 곡식을 거두어들이는 철에도 반드시 쉬어야 한다.
22 너는 밀을 처음 거두어들일 때에는 칠칠절을 지키고 해가 바뀔 때에[e]는 초막절을 지켜야 한다.
23 너희 가운데 모든 남자는 한 해에 세 번씩 이스라엘의 하나님, 나 주 앞에 나와야 한다.
24 내가 네 앞에서 뭇 민족을 몰아내고 네 땅의 경계를 넓혀 주겠다. 그리고 네가 한 해에 세 번씩 주 너의 하나님 앞에 서려고 올라갈 때에 아무도 네 땅을 탐내지 않을 것이다.
25 네가 나에게 희생제물의 피를 바칠 때에 누룩이 들어 있는 것은 어떤 것도 함께 바쳐서는 안 된다.
유월절 제물 가운데 어떤 것도 다음날 아침까지 남겨두어서는 안 된다.
26 네 땅에서 거둔 첫 열매 가운데 가장 좋은 것을 주 너의 하나님의 집으로 가져 오너라.
너는 새끼 염소를 그 어미의 젖에 넣어 삶아서는 안 된다.”
27 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 이 말들을 모두 적어 두어라. 내가 이 말들을 기초로 하여 너와 이스라엘과 계약을 맺었기 때문이다.”
28 모세는 주와 함께 거기서 밤낮 사십 일을 지냈다. 그 동안 그는 아무 것도 먹지 않고 물도 마시지 않았다. 그는 계약의 말씀인 십계명을 돌판 위에 적었다.
모세의 빛나는 얼굴
29 모세가 시내 산에서 내려올 때 그의 손에는 두 개의 계약판이 들려 있었다. 그 동안 주께서 그와 이야기를 나누셨기 때문에 그의 얼굴이 환하게 빛나고 있었지만 그는 그 사실을 몰랐다. 30 아론과 모든 이스라엘 자손이 모세를 보니 모세의 얼굴이 빛나고 있었다. 그래서 그들은 모세에게 가까이 가기를 두려워하였다. 31 모세가 그들을 부르자 아론을 비롯하여 이스라엘의 지도자들이 그에게 다가왔다. 그리고 모세가 그들에게 말을 걸었다. 32 그제야 모든 이스라엘 자손이 모세에게 다가왔고 모세는 주께서 시내 산 위에서 하신 말씀을 그들에게 모두 일러주었다.
33 모세는 말을 다 마치고 나서 너울로 얼굴을 가렸다. 34 그러나 주께 말씀을 드리기 위해 주 앞으로 들어갈 때에는 너울을 벗고 나올 때까지 다시 쓰지 않았다. 그는 나오는 길로 주께서 명하신 것을 이스라엘 자손에게 전하였다. 35 그때에 이스라엘 자손이 모세의 얼굴이 빛나는 것을 보게 되므로 모세는 다시 너울로 얼굴을 가렸다. 그러고는 주와 함께 이야기하러 들어갈 때까지 너울을 그대로 쓰고 있었다.

The New Stone Tablets
34 The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones,(A) and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets,(B) which you broke.(C) 2 Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai.(D) Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain. 3 No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain;(E) not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”
4 So Moses chiseled(F) out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.(G) 5 Then the Lord came down in the cloud(H) and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.(I) 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate(J) and gracious God, slow to anger,(K) abounding in love(L) and faithfulness,(M) 7 maintaining love to thousands,(N) and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.(O) Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;(P) he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”(Q)
8 Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. 9 “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor(R) in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us.(S) Although this is a stiff-necked(T) people, forgive our wickedness and our sin,(U) and take us as your inheritance.”(V)
10 Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant(W) with you. Before all your people I will do wonders(X) never before done in any nation in all the world.(Y) The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. 11 Obey what I command(Z) you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.(AA) 12 Be careful not to make a treaty(AB) with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare(AC) among you. 13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.[a](AD) 14 Do not worship any other god,(AE) for the Lord, whose name(AF) is Jealous, is a jealous God.(AG)
15 “Be careful not to make a treaty(AH) with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute(AI) themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.(AJ) 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives(AK) for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods,(AL) they will lead your sons to do the same.
17 “Do not make any idols.(AM)
18 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread.(AN) For seven days eat bread made without yeast,(AO) as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv,(AP) for in that month you came out of Egypt.
19 “The first offspring(AQ) of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. 20 Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.(AR) Redeem all your firstborn sons.(AS)
“No one is to appear before me empty-handed.(AT)
21 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest;(AU) even during the plowing season and harvest(AV) you must rest.
22 “Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits(AW) of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering(AX) at the turn of the year.[b] 23 Three times(AY) a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations(AZ) before you and enlarge your territory,(BA) and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God.
25 “Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast,(BB) and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning.(BC)
26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits(BD) of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.
“Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”(BE)
27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(BF) down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant(BG) with you and with Israel.” 28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights(BH) without eating bread or drinking water.(BI) And he wrote on the tablets(BJ) the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.(BK)
The Radiant Face of Moses
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai(BL) with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands,(BM) he was not aware that his face was radiant(BN) because he had spoken with the Lord. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community(BO) came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands(BP) the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.
33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil(BQ) over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant.(BR) Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord.
