잠언 24

24 악한 자들을 부러워하지 말고
그들과 어울릴 생각도 하지 말아라.
2 그들의 마음은 악한 일만 꾀하고
그들의 입술은 나쁜 일을 가져올 말만 한다.
3 훌륭한 집은 지혜로 지어지고
슬기로 튼튼해진다.
4 지식이 있어야
온갖 귀하고 아름다운 보화가 방마다 가득 찬다.
5 지혜로운 사람은 힘센 사람보다 강하고
지식이 있는 사람은 장사보다 강하다.
6 전략이 있어야 전쟁을 치를 수 있고
참모가 많아야 승리할 수 있다.
7 어리석은 사람이 깨닫기에는 지혜는 너무 높아
성문 앞 광장[a]에서는 입을 열지 못한다.
8 언제나 악한 일을 꾀하는 사람을 모략가라고 부른다.
9 어리석은 사람의 모의는 언제나 죄짓는 일뿐이며
빈정꾼은 사람들의 미움을 살 뿐이다.
10 어려운 일을 당할 때 약한 모습을 보이면
너는 정말로 약한 사람이다.
11 죽을 곳으로 끌려가는 사람을 구해 내고
죽임을 당할 사람을 돕는 데 주저하지 말아라.
12 너는 “이봐, 나는 그것을 몰랐어.” 하고 말할지라도
마음을 살피시는 분께서 어찌 모르시겠는가?
네 삶을 지켜보시는 분께서 다 알고 계시지 않겠는가?
주님은 그 행실대로 갚으시는 분이시다.
13 내 아들아
꿀을 먹어라. 그것은 좋은 것이다.
벌집에서 딴 꿀은 네 입에 아주 달다.
14 지혜도 네 삶에 그처럼 달다.
네가 지혜를 찾으면 너에게 밝은 미래가 있으며
너의 희망이 이루어질 것이다.
15 의로운 사람의 집을 노리고 강도처럼 숨어 기다리지 말고
그의 집을 털지 말아라.
16 의인은 일곱 번 넘어져도 다시 일어나지만
악한 자는 재앙을 만나면 망하고 만다.
17 네 원수가 넘어질 때 좋아하지 말고
그가 쓰러질 때 마음속으로 기뻐하지 말아라.
18 주께서 그것을 보시고 못마땅하게 여기셔서
네 원수에게로 향하던 노여움을 돌이키신다.
19 악한 짓을 하는 사람들 때문에 화를 내지 말고
악한 사람은 부러워하지도 말아라.
20 악한 자에게는 미래가 없고
그의 등불도 꺼지고 만다.
21 내 아들아
주님과 임금님을 섬기고 두려워하되
반역자들과는 사귀지 말아라.
22 그 두 분이 내리는 재앙은 갑작스러운 것이니
주님이나 임금님이 내릴 재앙을 누가 알겠는가?

23 이것도 지혜 있는 사람들의 말씀이다.
재판할 때 어느 편을 드는 것은 옳지 않다.
24 죄인을 “죄가 없다.”고 말하는 사람은
민족들의 저주를 받고
나라들의 비난을 받을 것이다.
25 그러나 죄인을 바로 가려내는 사람은
기쁨을 얻고
풍성한 복을 받을 것이다.
26 바른말을 해주는 것은 입맞춤 같은 기쁨을 준다.
27 네 바깥일을 끝마치고
네 밭일을 다 마무리 지은 다음에
비로소 네 집을 세워라.
28 근거 없이 이웃에게 해가 되는 증언을 하지 말고
네 입술로 거짓말을 하지 말아라.
29 “그가 나에게 한만큼 나도 그에게 해 주고
그가 한 대로 갚아 줄 것이다.” 하고 말하지 말아라.
30 내가 지나가다가
게으른 사람의 밭과
똑똑치 못한 사람의 포도원을 보니
31 가시덤불이 무성하게 자라고
엉겅퀴가 땅을 덮었으며
돌담이 무너져 있었다.
32 내가 그것을 보고
깊이 생각하고 교훈을 얻었다.
33 “조금만 더 자야지
조금만 더 눈을 붙여야지
조금만 더 쉬어야지.” 하면
34 가난이 강도처럼 들이닥치고
쪼들림이 군사처럼 달려들 것이다.

Precepts and Warnings
24 Do not be (A)envious of evil people,
Nor desire to (B)be with them;
2 For their [a]minds plot (C)violence,
And their lips (D)talk of trouble.
3 (E)By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
4 And by knowledge the rooms are (F)filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A (G)wise man is [b]strong,
And a person of knowledge [c]increases power.
6 For (H)by wise guidance you will [d]wage war,
And (I)in an abundance of counselors there is victory.
8 One who (L)plans to do evil,
People will call a [e]schemer.
9 The (M)devising of foolishness is sin,
And the scoffer is an abomination to humanity.
10 If you (N)show yourself lacking courage on the day of distress,
Your strength is meager.
11 (O)Rescue those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to the slaughter, Oh hold them back!
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He (P)who weighs the hearts not (Q)consider it?
And (R)does He who (S)watches over your soul not know it?
And will He not [f](T)repay a person according to his work?
13 My son, eat (U)honey, for it is good;
Yes, the (V)honey from the comb is sweet to your taste;
14 Know that (W)wisdom is the same for your soul;
If you find it, then there will be a [g](X)future,
And your hope will not be cut off.
15 (Y)Do not lie in ambush, you wicked person, against the home of the righteous;
Do not destroy his resting place;
16 For a (Z)righteous person falls seven times and rises again,
But the (AA)wicked stumble in time of disaster.
17 (AB)Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart rejoice when he stumbles,
18 Otherwise, the Lord will see and [h]be displeased,
And turn His anger away from him.
19 (AC)Do not get upset because of evildoers
Or be (AD)envious of the wicked;
20 For (AE)there will be no [i](AF)future for the evil person;
The (AG)lamp of the wicked will be put out.
21 My son, [j](AH)fear the Lord and the king;
Do not get involved with those [k]of high rank,
22 For their (AI)disaster will rise suddenly,
And who knows the ruin that can come from both of them?
23 These also are (AJ)sayings of the wise:
To [l](AK)show partiality in judgment is not good.
24 One (AL)who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”
(AM)Peoples will curse him, nations will scold him;
25 But (AN)for those who rebuke the wicked there will be delight,
And a good blessing will come upon them.
26 One who gives [m]a right answer
Kisses the lips.
27 Prepare your work outside,
And (AO)make it ready for yourself in the field;
Afterward, then, build your house.
28 Do not be a (AP)witness against your neighbor for no reason,
And (AQ)do not deceive with your lips.
29 (AR)Do not say, “I shall do the same to him as he has done to me;
I will [n]repay the person according to his work.”
30 I passed by the field of [o]a lazy one,
And by the vineyard of a person (AS)lacking [p]sense,
31 And behold, it was completely (AT)overgrown with weeds;
Its surface was covered with (AU)weeds,
And its stone (AV)wall was broken down.
32 When I saw, I [q]reflected upon it;
I looked, and received instruction.
33 “(AW)A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest,”
34 Then your poverty will come like [r]a drifter,
And your need like [s]an armed man.
