14 지혜로운 여자는 자기 집을 세우지만
어리석은 여자는 자기 손으로 집을 허문다.
정직하게 사는 사람은 주님을 두려워하지만
그릇된 길을 가는 사람은 주님을 멸시한다.
어리석은 사람의 말은 매를 맞게 하지만
지혜로운 사람의 말은 자신을 지켜준다.
황소가 없으면 구유를 채울 곡물이 없지만
황소의 힘을 빌면 소출이 많아진다.
진실한 증인은 거짓말을 하지 않지만
거짓 증인은 거짓말만 늘어놓는다.
교만한 사람은 지혜를 찾으나 얻지 못하고
슬기로운 사람은 쉽게 지식을 얻는다.

미련한 사람을 멀리 하여라.
그에게서는 아무것도 배울 것이 없다.
슬기로운 사람의 지혜는 자기의 가는 길을 깨닫게 하지만
미련한 자의 어리석음은 자기를 속이게 한다.
어리석은 사람은 죄의 대가를 치르는 것을 우습게 여겨도[a]
올곧은 사람은 은혜를 입는다[b].
10 마음의 고통도 자기만 알고
마음의 기쁨 또한 남이 나누어 가질 수 없다.
11 악한 사람의 집은 허물어지지만
의로운 사람의 집안은 번성한다.
12 사람의 눈에는 바른 길 같아 보여도
그 끝이 죽음에 이르는 길이 있다.
13 웃음 속에도 마음의 아픔이 있고
즐거움 뒤에도 슬픔은 여전히 남는다.
14 배신자는 악한 행실에 따라 대가를 치르고
선한 사람도 자기가 한만큼 보답을 받는다.

15 미련한 사람은 무슨 말이나 다 믿지만
슬기로운 사람은 깊이 생각하고 행동한다.
16 지혜로운 사람은 조심해서 악을 피하지만
어리석은 사람은 자신만만하게 함부로 행동한다.
17 쉽게 화를 내는 사람은 어리석게 행동하고
모사꾼은 미움을 받는다.
18 미련한 사람은 어리석음을 유산으로 삼고
슬기로운 사람은 지식을 면류관으로 삼는다.

19 악한 자는 선한 사람 앞에 엎드리고
사악한 자는 의로운 사람의 문 앞에 엎드린다.
20 가난한 사람은 이웃들도 싫어하지만
부자에게는 많은 친구가 따른다.
21 이웃을 멸시하는 사람은 죄를 짓는 사람이지만
가난한 사람을 가엾게 여기는 사람은 복을 받는 사람이다.
22 악을 꾀하는 사람은 길을 잃고 방황하지만
선을 꾀하는 사람은 사랑과 신의를 얻는다.
23 열심히 노력하면 결실이 있지만
말뿐이면 가난을 면치 못한다.
24 지혜로운 사람의 상급은 재물이지만
미련한 사람의 자랑은 어리석음뿐이다[c].

25 진실한 증인은 생명을 구하지만
거짓 증인은 거짓말만 한다[d].
26 주님을 두려워함이 확고한 안전이고
그 자식들의 피난처가 된다.
27 주님을 두려워하는 것이 생명의 샘이라
죽음의 덫에서 구원해 준다.
28 백성이 많은 것은 왕의 영광이지만
백성이 없으면 통치자는 망한다.
29 좀처럼 화를 내지 않는 사람은 큰 지혜를 가진 사람이고
쉽게 화를 내는 사람은 자기의 어리석음을 들어낼 뿐이다.
30 편안한 마음은 몸의 생명이나
시기는 뼈 속까지 퍼지는 암이다.
31 가난한 사람을 업신여기고 억누르는 것은
그를 지으신 창조주를 모욕하는 것이지만
궁핍한 사람을 가엾게 여기면
그를 지으신 분을 높이는 것이다.
32 악한 사람은 자기의 악한 행실 때문에 망하지만
의로운 사람은 정직한 행실을 피난처로 삼는다.

33 지혜는 슬기로운 사람의 마음에 깃들고
미련한 사람의 마음에는 알려지지 않는다[e].
34 정의는 나라를 높이지만
죄는 민족을 수치스럽게 한다.
35 지혜로운 신하는 왕의 총애를 받지만
어리석은 신하는 왕의 분노를 산다.
