하늘에서 온 빵
6 그 후 예수님은 디베랴 [a]바다라고도 하는 갈릴리 바다 건너편으로 가셨다.
2 그러자 많은 군중이 병든 사람을 고치는 기적을 보고 예수님을 따랐다.
3 예수님은 산으로 올라가 제자들과 함께 앉으셨다.
4 마침 유대인의 명절인 유월절이 다가왔다.
5 예수님은 수많은 군중이 자기에게 몰려오는 것을 보시고 빌립에게 “이 사람들을 먹일 만한 빵을 우리가 어디서 살 수 있겠느냐?” 하고 물으셨다.
6 사실 예수님은 하실 일을 미리 다 알고 계시면서도 빌립의 마음을 떠보려고 이렇게 물으신 것이다.
7 빌립은 예수님께 “한 사람에게 조금씩 나누어 준다고 해도 [b]200데나리온어치의 빵으로도 부족할 것입니다” 하고 대답하였다.
8 이때 예수님의 제자인 시몬 베드로의 동생 안드레가 예수님께 이렇게 여쭈었다.
9 “여기에 보리빵 다섯 개와 작은 물고기 두 마리를 가진 어린이가 있습니다. 그러나 그것을 가지고 어떻게 이 많은 사람을 먹일 수 있겠습니까?”
10 그러자 예수님이 그들에게 “사람들을 앉게 하라” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그 곳에는 풀이 많아 사람들이 앉았는데 그 수는 약 5,000명쯤 되었다.
11 예수님은 그 빵을 받아 들고 감사 기도를 드리신 다음 앉은 사람들에게 원하는 대로 나눠 주시고 또 물고기도 그렇게 하셨다.
12 사람들이 모두 실컷 먹었을 때 예수님이 제자들에게 “남은 조각을 거두고 버리는 것이 없게 하라” 하고 말씀하셨다.
13 그래서 제자들이 남은 조각을 거둬 보니 보리빵 다섯 개로 먹고 남은 부스러기가 열두 광주리나 되었다.
14 예수님이 베푸신 이 기적을 보고 사람들은 “이분이야말로 세상에 오실 바로 그 예언자이시다!” 하고 외쳤다.
15 예수님은 그들이 강제로 자기를 잡아 그들의 왕을 삼으려 한다는 것을 아시고 혼자서 다시 산으로 올라가셨다.
16 날이 저물자 제자들은 바닷가로 내려가
17 배를 타고 건너편 가버나움을 향해 떠났다. 날이 이미 어두워졌는데도 예수님은 아직 제자들에게 돌아오시지 않았다.
18 그때 강한 바람이 불어 파도가 일기 시작했다.
19 제자들이 배를 저어 [c]4-5킬로미터쯤 갔을 때 예수님이 바다 위로 걸어오셨다. 배로 가까이 오시는 예수님을 보고 제자들이 무서워하자
20 예수님은 그들에게 “나다. 무서워하지 말아라” 하고 말씀하셨다.
21 그래서 제자들은 기뻐하며 예수님을 배에 모셔들였다. 배는 곧 그들이 가려던 곳에 다다랐다.
22 이튿날 바다 건너편에 남아 있던 군중들은 한 척밖에 없던 배로 예 수님은 타시지 않고 제자들만 타고 떠난 것을 알게 되었다.
23 그러나 디베랴에서 다른 배가 몇 척 왔는데 상륙 장소는 주님이 감사 기도를 드리신 후에 군중들이 빵을 먹던 곳에서 가까운 곳이었다.
24 군중들은 거기에 예수님도 제자들도 없는 것을 보고 배를 타고 예수님을 찾아 가버나움으로 떠났다.
25 그들은 바다 건너편에서 예수님을 만나 물었다. “선생님, 언제 이 곳에 오셨습니까?”
26 “내가 너희에게 분명히 말하지만 너희가 나를 찾아온 것은 기적을 보았기 때문이 아니라 빵을 실컷 먹었기 때문이다.
27 썩어 없어지는 양식을 위해 일하지 말고 영원한 생명을 누릴 때까지 있는 양식을 위해 일하라. 이것이 [d]내가 너희에게 줄 양식이다. 하나님 아버지께서는 나를 인정한다는 도장을 나에게 찍어 주셨다.”
28 “우리가 하나님의 일을 하려면 무엇을 해야 합니까?”
29 “하나님이 보내신 자를 믿는 것이 하나님의 일이다.”
30 “그렇다면 우리가 보고 당신을 믿을 수 있도록 당신이 보여 줄 만한 기적이 무엇입니까? 당신이 무슨 일을 하겠느냐는 말입니다.
31 [e]‘모세가 하늘에서 양식을 내려 그들을 먹였다’ 는 성경 말씀대로 우리 조상들은 광야에서 만나를 먹었습니다.”
32 “내가 분명히 말하지만 하늘에서 양식을 내려 너희에게 준 것은 모세가 아니다. 오직 너희에게 하늘의 참된 양식을 주시는 분은 내 아버지이시다.
33 하나님의 양식은 하늘에서 내려온 자가 세상에 생명을 주는 바로 그것이다.”
34 “주님, 그런 양식을 항상 우리에게 주십시오.”
35 그때 예수님은 그들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “내가 바로 생명의 빵이다. 내게 오는 사람은 굶주리지 않을 것이며 나를 믿는 사람은 절대로 목마르지 않을 것이다.
36 그러나 내가 이미 말했듯이 너희는 나를 보고도 믿지 않는다.
37 아버지께서 내게 주시는 사람은 다 내게로 올 것이며 내게 오는 사람은 내가 절대로 쫓아내지 않을 것이다.
38 내가 하늘에서 내려온 것은 내 뜻을 이루기 위해서가 아니라 나를 보내신 분의 뜻을 이루기 위해서이다.
39 나를 보내신 분의 뜻은 그분이 내게 주신 모든 사람을 하나도 잃지 않고 마지막 날에 다시 살리는 그것이다.
40 사실 내 아버지의 뜻은 아들을 보고 믿는 사람마다 영원한 생명을 얻는 것이다. 그리고 나는 마지막 날에 그들을 다시 살릴 것이다.”
41 예수님이 “내가 하늘에서 내려온 빵이다” 하고 말씀하셨기 때문에 유대인들이 예수님에 대하여 수군거리며
42 “이 사람은 요셉의 아들 예수가 아니냐? 그의 부모를 우리가 다 아는데 어떻게 하늘에서 내려왔다고 하는가?” 하였다.
43 그래서 예수님이 그들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 서로 수군거리지 말아라.
44 나를 보내신 아버지께서 이끌어 주시지 않으면 아무도 나에게 올 수 없다. 그리고 오는 그 사람은 내가 마지막 날에 다시 살릴 것이다.
45 예언서에는 [f]‘그들이 모두 하나님의 가르치심을 받을 것이다’ 라고 기록되어 있다. 아버지의 말씀을 듣고 배운 사람은 모두 나에게 온다.
46 이것은 아버지를 본 사람이 있다는 뜻이 아니다. 오직 하나님에게서 온 자만 아버지를 보았다.
47 내가 분명히 너희에게 말하지만 나를 믿는 사람은 영원한 생명을 가졌다.
48 나는 생명의 빵이다.
49 너희 조상들은 광야에서 만나를 먹었으나 모두 죽고 말았다.
50 그러나 하늘에서 내리는 양식을 먹는 사람은 죽지 않는다.
51 나는 하늘에서 내려온 살아 있는 빵이다. 누구든지 이 빵을 먹는 사람은 영원히 살 것이다. 이 빵은 곧 세상의 생명을 위해 주는 내 살이다.”
52 그러자 유대인들은 “이 사람이 어떻게 자기 살을 먹으라고 우리에게 줄 수 있겠는가?” 하 고 서로 논쟁하기 시작하였다.
53 그래서 예수님은 그들에게 다시 말씀하셨다. “내가 분명히 너희에게 말하지만 [g]나의 살을 먹지 않고 나의 피를 마시지 않으면 너희 안에 생명이 없다.
54 누구든지 내 살을 먹고 내 피를 마시는 사람은 영원한 생명을 가졌다. 그래서 나는 마지막 날에 그를 다시 살릴 것이다.
55 그것은 내 살이 참된 양식이며 내 피는 참된 음료이기 때문이다.
56 내 살을 먹고 내 피를 마시는 사람은 내 안에 살고 나도 그 사람 안에 산다.
57 살아 계신 아버지께서 나를 보내셔서 내가 아버지 때문에 사는 것과 마찬가지로 나를 먹는 사람도 나 때문에 살 것이다.
58 나는 하늘에서 내려온 빵이다. 너희 조상들은 만나를 먹고도 죽었으나 이것은 그런 것과 같은 것이 아니다. 이 빵을 먹는 사람은 영원히 살 것이다.”
59 이것은 예수님이 가버나움 회당에서 가르치실 때 하신 말씀이다.
60 이 말씀을 듣고 여러 제자들이 “이것은 정말 어려운 말씀이다. 누가 알아들을 수 있겠는가?” 하며 수군거렸다.
61 예수님은 제자들이 이 말씀에 대해서 수군거리는 것을 아시고 그들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “내 말이 너희 귀에 거슬리느냐?
62 만일 내가 전에 있던 곳으로 올라가는 것을 본다면 어떻게 하겠느냐?
63 [h]생명을 주는 것은 하나님의 영이며 인간의 육체는 아무 쓸모가 없다. 내가 너희에게 한 말은 [i]영적인 생명에 관한 것이다.
64 그러나 너희 중에는 믿지 않는 사람들이 있다.” 예수님은 믿지 않는 사람이 누구며 자기를 팔아 넘길 사람이 누군지 처음부터 알고 계셨다.
65 그러고서 예수님은 덧붙여 말씀하셨다. “그러므로 내가 너희에게 아버지께서 오게 해 주시지 않으면 아무도 나에게 올 수 없다고 이미 말하였다.”
66 이 말씀을 듣고 많은 제자들이 예수님을 떠나고 다시는 그와 함께 다니지 않았다.
67 그래서 예수님이 열두 제자에게 “너희도 떠나고 싶으냐?” 하고 물으시자
68 시몬 베드로가 이렇게 대답하였다. “주님, 우리가 누구에게로 가겠습니까? 주님에게는 영원한 생명의 말씀이 있습니다.
69 우리는 주님이 하나님의 거룩하신 아들이라는 것을 믿고 알게 되었습니다.”
70 그때 예수님은 “내가 너희 열둘을 선택하지 않았느냐? 그러나 너희 가운데 한 사람은 마귀다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
71 이것은 가룟 사람 시몬의 아들 유다를 가리켜 하신 말씀이었다. 그는 비록 열두 제자 중 하나였으나 예수님을 팔아 넘길 사람이었다.

Jesus alimenta 5000 homens
(Mt 14.13-21; Mc 6.30-44; Lc 9.10-17)
6 Depois disso, Jesus atravessou o mar da Galileia, também conhecido como mar de Tiberíades. 2 Uma multidão enorme seguia-o, pois via os sinais que fazia curando os doentes. 3 Assim, Jesus subiu ao monte e sentou-se com os discípulos à sua volta. 4 Estava próxima a Páscoa, a festa anual judaica. 5 Em breve viu que um grande grupo de pessoas subia também a colina à sua procura. Voltando-se para Filipe, perguntou: “Filipe, onde poderemos comprar pão para alimentarmos esta gente toda?” 6 Estava a experimentá-lo, pois já sabia o que ia fazer.
7 Filipe respondeu-lhe: “Nem com duzentas moedas de prata[a] se comprava pão suficiente para dar um pedaço a cada pessoa.” 8 Um dos discípulos, André, irmão de Simão Pedro, acrescentou: 9 “Está aqui um rapaz com cinco pães de cevada e alguns peixes! Mas de que serve para uma multidão tão numerosa?”
10 “Digam a toda a gente que se sente”, ordenou Jesus. E todos se sentaram na colina relvada; só homens eram aproximadamente 5000. 11 Jesus, pegando nos pães, deu graças a Deus e distribuiu-os entre o povo. Depois fez o mesmo com os peixes. E toda a gente comeu até estar satisfeita. 12 “Agora juntem os sobejos”, disse Jesus aos discípulos, “para que nada se estrague.” 13 E encheram-se doze cestos, só de sobras.
14 Quando o povo se deu conta daquele grande sinal, exclamou: “Sem dúvida é este o Profeta cuja vinda temos esperado!” 15 Jesus percebeu que estavam a ponto de o levar para fazer dele o seu rei. Por isso, subiu o monte, ainda mais para o alto, ficando sozinho.
Jesus anda sobre a água
(Mt 14.22-36; Mc 6.45-52)
16 Ao cair da noite, os discípulos desceram à praia para o esperar. 17 Como estava escuro e Jesus ainda não tinha voltado, meteram-se no barco e remaram para Cafarnaum, do outro lado do lago. 18 Em breve, porém, se abateu um vendaval sobre eles, enquanto remavam, e o mar ficou bravo. 19 Encontravam-se a cinco ou seis quilómetros de terra quando viram Jesus a caminhar sobre o mar e perto do barco, e ficaram cheios de medo. 20 Mas ele disse-lhes: “Sou eu! Não tenham medo!” 21 Fizeram-no entrar e logo o barco chegou ao destino desejado.
22 Na manhã seguinte, de novo no outro lado, as multidões começaram a juntar-se na praia, pois sabiam que ele e os discípulos tinham atravessado juntos e que estes últimos tinham partido no barco, deixando-o em terra. 23 Encontravam-se ali perto várias embarcações pequenas de Tiberíades, perto do local onde tinham comido o pão pelo qual o Senhor tinha dado graças. 24 Quando o povo viu que nem Jesus nem os discípulos estavam ali, meteu-se nas embarcações e atravessou para Cafarnaum, a fim de o procurar.
Jesus, o pão da vida
25 Quando chegaram e o encontraram, disseram: “Mestre, quando chegaste aqui?”
26 Jesus retorquiu: “É realmente como vos digo: vieram ter comigo não porque viram sinais, mas porque vos alimentei e ficaram satisfeitos. 27 Mas não se devem preocupar tanto com coisas que se acabam, tal como o alimento. Trabalhem antes pelo alimento que dura para a vida eterna, que o Filho do Homem vos há de dar, pois disso mesmo o Pai o encarregou.”
28 Perguntaram-lhe então: “Que devemos fazer para obedecer à vontade de Deus?”
29 “A vontade de Deus é que creiam naquele que ele enviou.”
30 Eles responderam: “Que sinal fazes para que creiamos em ti? 31 Os nossos pais comeram do maná, no deserto, como dizem as Escrituras: ‘deu-lhes pão do céu, para se alimentarem.’ ”[b]
32 Jesus disse: “É realmente como vos digo: não foi Moisés quem lho deu, mas meu Pai. Mas agora ele oferece-vos o verdadeiro pão do céu. 33 O pão verdadeiro é aquele que foi enviado do céu por Deus e que dá a vida ao mundo.”
34 “Senhor, dá-nos sempre desse pão!”
35 “Eu sou o pão da vida. Quem vem a mim não terá fome. Quem crê em mim nunca terá sede. 36 O pior, como vos disse, é não acreditarem, mesmo depois de me terem visto. 37 Mas alguns virão ter comigo, aqueles que o Pai me deu, e a esses jamais mandarei embora. 38 Eu vim do céu para fazer a vontade de Deus, que me enviou, e não a minha. 39 E a vontade de Deus é esta: que eu não perca nem um só daqueles que ele me deu, antes os faça viver de novo para a vida eterna, no último dia. 40 Porque a vontade de meu Pai é que todo aquele que vê o Filho, e nele crê, tenha a vida eterna, para que lhe torne a dar vida no último dia.”
41 Então os judeus começaram a murmurar contra ele por dizer que era o pão do céu. 42 “O quê?”, interrogavam-se. “Ele não é outro senão Jesus, filho de José, cujo pai e a mãe conhecemos. Que é isto que diz agora, que veio do céu?”
43 Mas Jesus respondeu: “Não murmurem por eu ter dito isto. 44 Ninguém pode vir a mim se o Pai, que me enviou, o não atrair a mim, e no último dia os trarei a todos de novo para a vida. 45 Como dizem as Escrituras, ‘Todos eles serão ensinados por Deus.’[c] Aqueles que escutam o Pai e que dele aprendem serão atraídos para mim. 46 Aliás, ninguém realmente vê o Pai; só eu o vi.
47 É realmente como vos digo: quem crê em mim tem a vida eterna! 48 Eu sou o pão da vida! 49 Os vossos antepassados, no deserto, comeram o maná e morreram. 50 Mas aqui está o pão que veio do céu e que dá a vida a todo aquele que o come. 51 Eu sou o pão da vida que veio do céu. Quem comer deste pão viverá para sempre. A minha carne é esse pão que darei para dar vida à humanidade.”
52 Então os judeus começaram a discutir entre si acerca do que queriam dizer as suas palavras. “Como nos pode este homem dar a sua carne a comer?”
53 E Jesus repetiu: “É realmente como vos digo: a não ser que comam a carne do Filho do Homem e bebam o seu sangue, não têm vida em vocês mesmos. 54 Mas quem comer a minha carne e beber o meu sangue tem a vida eterna e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia. 55 Porque a minha carne é o alimento verdadeiro e o meu sangue é a bebida verdadeira. 56 Quem come a minha carne e bebe o meu sangue está em mim e eu nele. 57 Assim como eu vivo pelo Pai, que me enviou e vive eternamente, do mesmo modo, aqueles que se alimentam de mim por mim viverão. 58 Eu sou o pão vindo do céu; todo aquele que comer deste pão viverá para sempre e não morrerá. Não é o caso dos vossos antepassados que comeram o maná e morreram.”
59 Estas coisas ele disse enquanto ensinava na sinagoga em Cafarnaum.
Muitos discípulos abandonam Jesus
60 Muitos dos seus discípulos diziam: “Isto é muito difícil de compreender. Quem é que pode aceitar estas coisas?”
61 Jesus sabia que os seus discípulos se queixavam e disse-lhes: “Estas coisas chocam-vos? 62 Então o que pensarão quando me virem, a mim, o Filho do Homem, voltar de novo para o céu? 63 Só o Espírito Santo dá a vida eterna. Pelo poder humano jamais se receberá este dom. As palavras que eu vos disse são espírito e vida. 64 Alguns de vocês, porém, não creem em mim.” Pois Jesus sabia, desde o princípio, quem não cria e quem o ia trair. 65 “Era isto que eu queria dizer quando revelei que ninguém pode vir a mim a não ser que o Pai o traga.”
66 Nesta altura muitos dos seus discípulos afastaram-se e abandonaram-no. 67 Jesus voltou-se para os doze e perguntou-lhes: “Também se querem ir embora?”
68 Simão Pedro respondeu: “Mestre, para quem iremos nós? Só tu tens as palavras que dão a vida eterna! 69 Nós acreditamos nelas e sabemos que és o Santo de Deus.”
70 Então Jesus informou: “Escolhi-vos a todos, mas um é um diabo.” 71 Falava-lhes de Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes, um dos doze, que o iria trair.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(A)
6 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs(B) he had performed by healing the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside(C) and sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Festival(D) was near.
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip,(E) “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother,(F) spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”(G)
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks,(H) and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
14 After the people saw the sign(I) Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”(J) 15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king(K) by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.(L)
Jesus Walks on the Water(M)
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles,[b] they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water;(N) and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.”(O) 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake(P) realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone.(Q) 23 Then some boats from Tiberias(R) landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.(S) 24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.
Jesus the Bread of Life
25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi,(T) when did you get here?”
26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me,(U) not because you saw the signs(V) I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures(W) to eternal life,(X) which the Son of Man(Y) will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal(Z) of approval.”
28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe(AA) in the one he has sent.”(AB)
30 So they asked him, “What sign(AC) then will you give that we may see it and believe you?(AD) What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna(AE) in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’[c]”(AF)
32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven(AG) and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”(AH)
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am(AI) the bread of life.(AJ) Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes(AK) in me will never be thirsty.(AL) 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me(AM) will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven(AN) not to do my will but to do the will(AO) of him who sent me.(AP) 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me,(AQ) but raise them up at the last day.(AR) 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son(AS) and believes in him shall have eternal life,(AT) and I will raise them up at the last day.”
41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph,(AU) whose father and mother we know?(AV) How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”(AW)
43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them,(AX) and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’[d](AY) Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God;(AZ) only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.(BA) 48 I am the bread of life.(BB) 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died.(BC) 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven,(BD) which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread(BE) that came down from heaven.(BF) Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”(BG)
52 Then the Jews(BH) began to argue sharply among themselves,(BI) “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh(BJ) of the Son of Man(BK) and drink his blood,(BL) you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.(BM) 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.(BN) 57 Just as the living Father sent me(BO) and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”(BP) 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples(BQ) said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”(BR)
61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?(BS) 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man(BT) ascend to where he was before!(BU) 63 The Spirit gives life;(BV) the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[e] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known(BW) from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.(BX) 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”(BY)
66 From this time many of his disciples(BZ) turned back and no longer followed him.
67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.(CA)
68 Simon Peter answered him,(CB) “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.(CC) 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”(CD)
70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you,(CE) the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”(CF) 71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot,(CG) who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)(CH)

6 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,
9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
22 The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

6 这些事以后，耶稣渡过加利利海，就是提比哩亚海。 2 有一大群人因为看见他在病人身上所行的神迹，就跟随他。 3 耶稣上了山，和门徒一同坐在那里。 4 那时犹太人的逾越节近了。 5 耶稣举目看见一大群人来，就对腓力说：“我们到哪里去买饼给这些人吃呢？” 6 他说这话是要考验腓力，他自己原知道要怎样做。 7 腓力回答他：“就是两百个银币的饼也不够给他们每人吃一点点。” 8 有一个门徒，就是西门‧彼得的弟弟安得烈，对耶稣说： 9 “这里有一个孩子，带着五个大麦饼和两条鱼，但是分给这么多人还算什么呢？” 10 耶稣说：“你们叫大家坐下。”那地方的草多，人们就坐下，男人的数目约有五千。 11 耶稣拿起饼来，祝谢了，就分给坐着的人，也同样分了鱼，都照他们所要的来分。 12 他们吃饱后，耶稣对门徒说：“把剩下的碎屑收拾起来，免得糟蹋了。” 13 他们就把那五个大麦饼的碎屑，就是大家吃剩的，收拾起来，装满了十二个篮子。 14 人们看见耶稣所行的神迹，就说：“这真是那要到世上来的先知！” 15 耶稣知道他们要来强迫他作王，就独自又退到山上去了。
耶稣在海上行走(B)
16 到了晚上，他的门徒下到海边， 17 上了船，要过海往迦百农去。天已经黑了，耶稣还没有来到他们那里。 18 忽然狂风大作，海浪翻腾。 19 门徒摇橹，约行了十里多[a]，看见耶稣在海面上走，渐渐靠近了船，他们就害怕。 20 耶稣对他们说：“是我，不要怕！” 21 门徒就欣然接他上船，船立刻到了他们所要去的地方。
耶稣是生命的粮
22 第二天，留在海的对岸的众人发觉那里原来只有一条小船，而且耶稣没有同他的门徒上船，是门徒自己去的。 23 另外有几条从提比哩亚来的小船，却停靠在主祝谢后给他们吃饼的地方附近。 24 这时众人见耶稣和门徒都不在那里，就上了船，往迦百农去找耶稣。
25 他们在海的对岸找到他后，对他说：“拉比，你几时到这里来的？” 26 耶稣回答他们说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，你们找我，并不是因见了神迹，而是因吃饼吃饱了。 27 不要为那会坏的食物操劳，而要为那存到永生的食物操劳。这食物是人子要赐给你们的，因为父 神已印证了。” 28 于是他们问他：“我们该做什么才算是做 神的工作呢？” 29 耶稣回答，对他们说：“信 神所差来的，这就是 神的工作。” 30 于是他们对他说：“你行什么神迹，好让我们看见而信你呢？你到底要做什么呢？ 31 我们的祖宗在旷野吃过吗哪，如经上写着：‘他从天上赐下粮食来给他们吃。’” 32 于是耶稣对他们说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，那从天上来的粮不是摩西赐给你们的，那从天上来的真粮是我父赐给你们的。 33 因为 神的粮就是那位从天上降下来，并且赐生命给世界的。”
34 于是他们对他说：“主啊，请常常把这粮赐给我们！” 35 耶稣对他们说：“我就是生命的粮。到我这里来的，绝不饥饿；信我的，永不干渴。 36 可是，我告诉过你们，你们已经看见我[b]，还是不信。 37 凡父所赐给我的人，必到我这里来；到我这里来的，我总不丢弃他。 38 因为我从天上降下来，不是要按自己的意愿行，而是要遵行差我来那位的旨意。 39 差我来那位的旨意就是：他所赐给我的，要我一个也不失落，并且在末日使他复活。 40 因为我父的旨意是要使每一个见了子而信的人得永生，并且在末日我要使他复活。”
41 犹太人因为耶稣说“我是从天上降下来的粮”，就私下议论他， 42 说：“这不是约瑟的儿子耶稣吗？我们岂不认得他的父母吗？现在他怎么说‘我是从天上降下来的’呢？” 43 耶稣回答，对他们说：“你们不要彼此私下议论。 44 若不是差我来的父吸引人，就没有人能到我这里来；到我这里来的，在末日我要使他复活。 45 在先知书上写着：‘他们都要蒙 神教导。’凡听了父的教导而学习的，都到我这里来。 46 这不是说有人看见过父，惟独从 神来的，他才看见过父。 47 我实实在在地告诉你们，信的人有永生。 48 我就是生命的粮。 49 你们的祖宗在旷野吃过吗哪，还是死了。 50 这是从天上降下来的粮，使人吃了就不死。 51 我就是从天上降下来生命的粮；人若吃这粮，必永远活着。我为世人的生命所赐下的粮就是我的肉。”
52 因此，犹太人彼此争论说：“这个人怎能把他的肉给我们吃呢？” 53 耶稣对他们说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，你们若不吃人子的肉，不喝人子的血，在你们里面就没有生命。 54 吃我肉、喝我血的人就有永生，并且在末日我要使他复活。 55 我的肉是真正可吃的；我的血是真正可喝的。 56 吃我肉、喝我血的人常在我里面，我也常在他里面。 57 永生的父怎样差我来，我又怎样因父活着，照样，吃我肉的人也要因我活着。 58 这是从天上降下来的粮，不像你们的祖宗吃过吗哪还是死了；吃这粮的人将永远活着。” 59 这些话是耶稣在迦百农会堂里教导人的时候说的。
永生的话
60 他的门徒中有好些人听见了，就说：“这话很难，谁听得进呢？” 61 耶稣心里知道门徒为这话私下议论，就对他们说：“这话成了你们的绊脚石吗？ 62 如果你们看见人子升到他原来所在之处，会怎么样呢？ 63 圣灵赐人生命，肉体毫无用处。我对你们所说的话就是灵，就是生命。 64 可是你们中间有些人不信。”耶稣起初就知道哪些人不信他，哪一个要出卖他。 65 于是耶稣说：“所以，我对你们说过，若不是蒙我父的恩赐，没有人能到我这里来。”
66 从此，他门徒中有很多退却了，不再和他同行。 67 耶稣就对那十二使徒说：“你们也要离开吗？” 68 西门‧彼得回答他：“主啊，你有永生之道，我们还跟从谁呢？ 69 我们已经信了，又知道你是 神的圣者。” 70 耶稣回答他们：“我不是拣选了你们十二个吗？但你们中间有一个是魔鬼。” 71 耶稣这话是指着要出卖他的加略人西门的儿子犹大说的；他本是十二使徒里的一个。
