가나의 혼인 잔치
2 이틀 뒤에 갈릴리에 있는 가나라는 마을[a]에서 혼인 잔치가 있었다. 예수의 어머니가 거기에 계셨다. 2 그리고 예수와 그분의 제자들도 잔치에 초대를 받아 와 있었다. 3 포도주가 다 떨어지자, 예수의 어머니가 예수께 “포도주가 다 떨어졌다.” 라고 말씀하셨다.
4 예수께서 대답하셨다. “어머님, 그것이 저와 무슨 상관입니까? 아직은 저의 때가 아닙니다.”
5 예수의 어머니가 그 집 종들에게 말하였다. “무엇이든지 예수가 하라는 대로 하시오.”
6 가까이에 돌로 만든 물 항아리 여섯 개가 있었는데, 각기 두세 동이들이 항아리[b]였다. 유대 사람에게는 이런 항아리에 채워 두었던 물로 몸을 깨끗이 씻는 의식[c]이 있었다.
7 예수께서 종들에게 이르셨다. “저 항아리에 물을 가득 채워라.” 종들은 항아리마다 물을 가득 채웠다.
8 예수께서 종들에게 다시 이르셨다. “이제 조금 떠서, 잔치를 맡은 사람에게 갖다 주어라.”
그들은 그대로 하였다. 9 잔치를 맡은 사람이 포도주로 변해 있는 물을 맛보았다. 물을 떠 간 종들은 그 술이 어디에서 났는지 알고 있었지만, 그는 아무것도 모른 채 신랑을 불러냈다. 10 그리고 신랑에게 이렇게 말하였다. “누구든지 좋은 포도주를 먼저 대접하고, 손님들이 취한 뒤에는 그보다 못한 포도주를 내놓는 법이오. 그런데 그대는 가장 좋은 포도주를 지금까지 남겨 두었구려!”
11 예수께서 보여 주신 많은 표적 가운데, 이 첫 번째 표적을 갈릴리 지방의 가나라는 마을에서 보여 주셨다. 그분은 그렇게 하여 당신의 능력[d]을 보여 주셨고, 제자들은 그분을 믿고 의지하였다.
12 이 일이 있고 난 뒤에, 예수께서는 어머니와 형제들과 제자들과 함께 가버나움[e]으로 내려가셔서, 그곳에서 며칠 동안 머물러 계셨다.
성전에 가신 예수
(마 21:12-13; 막 11:15-17; 눅 19:45-46)
13 유대 사람의 명절인 유월절이 가까워지자, 예수께서는 예루살렘으로 올라가셨다. 14 그리고 성전 뜰에서 소와 양과 비둘기를 파는 사람들과 돈 바꾸어 주는 사람들이 앉아 있는 것을 보셨다. 15 예수께서는 끈으로 채찍을 만들어서, 양과 소와 함께 그들 모두를 성전 밖으로 내쫓으셨다. 그리고 돈 바꾸어 주던 사람들의 돈을 쏟아 버리고 그들의 상을 엎으셨다. 16 예수께서 비둘기 파는 사람들에게 말씀하셨다. “이것들을 가지고 썩 나가거라! 너희가 감히 내 아버지의 집을 시장바닥으로 만들다니!”
17 제자들은 성경[f]에 기록된 말씀을 기억하였다.
“당신의 집을 향한 나의 열정이
나를 망하게 할 것입니다.”(A)
18 유대 사람들이 예수께 말하였다. “당신은 어떤 표적을 우리에게 보여서, 당신이 이 모든 일을 할 권한이 있다는 것을 증명할 셈입니까?”
19 예수께서 대답하셨다. “이 성전을 무너뜨려라. 그러면 내가 사흘 만에 그것을 다시 일으키겠다.”
20 유대 사람들이 대답하였다. “이 성전을 짓는 데 사십육 년이 걸렸소! 그런데 당신이 그것을 사흘 만에 다시 일으키겠단 말입니까?”
21 (그러나 예수께서 말씀하신 성전은 자신의 몸을 뜻하는 것이었다. 22 예수께서 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 뒤에야, 제자들은 그분이 하신 이 말씀을 생각해 냈다. 그리고 예수에 관한 성경 말씀과 예수께서 하신 말씀을 믿었다.)
23 예수께서 예루살렘에서 유월절을 지내시는 동안, 많은 사람이 그분이 보여 주시는 표적을 보고, 예수를 믿고 의지하였다. 24 그러나 예수께서는 그들을 믿고 그들에게 자신을 맡기려 하지 않으셨다. 그분은 모든 사람을 속속들이 알고 계셨기 때문이다. 25 그분은 사람들에 대하여 어떤 누구의 증언도 들을 필요가 없으셨다. 그분 스스로 사람들의 속마음까지 다 알고 계셨다.

Jesus Changes Water Into Wine
2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.(A) Jesus’ mother(B) was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman,[a](C) why do you involve me?”(D) Jesus replied. “My hour(E) has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”(F)
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,(G) each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.(H) He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs(I) through which he revealed his glory;(J) and his disciples believed in him.(K)
12 After this he went down to Capernaum(L) with his mother(M) and brothers(N) and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts(O)
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover,(P) Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(Q) 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves,(R) and others sitting at tables exchanging money.(S) 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house(T) into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c](U)
18 The Jews(V) then responded to him, “What sign(W) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”(X)
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”(Y)
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.(Z) 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.(AA) Then they believed the scripture(AB) and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(AC) many people saw the signs(AD) he was performing and believed(AE) in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind,(AF) for he knew what was in each person.(AG)

Water Turned to Wine
2 On the third day there was a (A)wedding in (B)Cana of Galilee, and the (C)mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
4 Jesus said to her, (D)“Woman, (E)what does your concern have to do with Me? (F)My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, (G)according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted (H)the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 This (I)beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, (J)and [a]manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After this He went down to (K)Capernaum, He, His mother, (L)His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple(M)
13 (N)Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 (O)And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers [b]doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make (P)My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, (Q)“Zeal for Your house [c]has eaten Me up.”
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, (R)“What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, (S)“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”
21 But He was speaking (T)of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, (U)His disciples remembered that He had said this [d]to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
The Discerner of Hearts
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the (V)signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He (W)knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for (X)He knew what was in man.
