여자와 큰 뱀
12 그때에 크고 놀라운 표징이 하늘에 나타났습니다. 한 여자가 해를 옷으로 입고, 달을 밟고, 별이 열두 개 달린 왕관을 머리에 쓰고 나타났습니다. 2 여자는 아기를 배고 있었습니다. 그리고 아기를 낳게 되자 아파서 큰 소리로 울었습니다. 3 그러자 또 다른 표징이 하늘에 나타났습니다. 이번에는 아주 크고 붉은 용이 나타났습니다. 그 용은 일곱 머리와 열 뿔을 가졌고, 그 머리마다 왕관을 쓰고 있었습니다. 4 용은 꼬리로 하늘에 있는 별의 삼분의 일을 쓸어서 땅으로 던져 버렸습니다. 그리고 아기를 낳으려는 여자 앞에 서서, 여자가 아기를 낳기만 기다렸습니다. 아기가 태어나는 대로 삼켜 버리려는 것이었습니다. 5 여자가 아들을 낳았습니다. 그 아기는 장차 쇠 지팡이로 모든 민족을 다스리실 분이었습니다. 별안간 여자의 아기는 하나님과 그분의 보좌로 들려 올라갔습니다. 6 여자는 광야로 도망쳤습니다. 그곳은 하나님께서 천이백육십 일 동안 그 여자를 보살펴 주시려고 마련해 두신 곳이었습니다.
7 그때에 하늘에서 전쟁이 일어났습니다. 미가엘[a]과 미가엘의 천사들이 용을 무찌르기 위해 싸웠고, 용과 용의 천사들도 맞서 싸웠습니다. 8 그러나 용은 힘이 모자랐습니다. 그래서 용과 용의 천사들은 하늘에서 더는 발붙일 곳이 없었습니다. 9 그 큰 용, 곧 그 옛 뱀은 땅으로 내쫓겼습니다. 그 큰 용은 악마 또는 사탄이라고도 하는데, 온 세상을 속이는 자입니다. 그 용은 땅으로 내쫓겼고, 그의 천사들도 그와 함께 내쫓겼습니다.
10 그때에 나는 하늘에서 큰 목소리가 이렇게 말하는 것을 들었습니다.
“우리 형제자매들을 고발하는 자
그들을
우리 하나님 앞에서
밤낮으로 고발하는 자가 쫓겨났다.
이제 우리 하나님께서 당신의 백성을 구원하실 것이다.
이제 그분께서 당신의 능력을 행사하시어
왕으로서 다스리실 것이다.
이제 그분이 세우신 그리스도께서
당신의 권세를 세상에 떨치실 것이다.
11 우리 형제자매들은
어린양의 피와
자기들이 증언한 말씀으로 그 자를 이겨 냈다.
그들은 자기들의 목숨을 아까워하지 않았다.
그들은 죽는 것을 두려워하지 않았다.
12 그러므로
너 하늘아
그리고 그 안에 사는 자들아
기뻐하라!
그러나 땅과 바다에는 재앙이 미칠 것이다.
악마가 너희에게 내려왔기 때문이다.
악마는 제 시간이 얼마 남지 않은 것을 알고
화가 잔뜩 나 있다.”
13 용은 자기가 땅으로 쫓겨났다는 것을 알고는, 남자 아이를 낳은 그 여자의 뒤를 쫓아갔습니다. 14 그러나 여자는 큰 독수리의 두 날개를 받았습니다. 그리하여 여자는 광야에 자기를 위해 마련된 곳으로 날아갈 수 있었습니다. 그곳에서 여자는 뱀을 피해 삼 년 반 동안 보살핌을 받게 될 것입니다. 15 그러자 뱀은 입으로부터 강물처럼 많은 물을 그 여자 쪽으로 토해 내어, 그 물로 여자를 휩쓸어 버리려고 하였습니다. 16 그러나 땅이 여자를 도왔습니다. 땅은 입을 열어 용이 입으로 토해 낸 물을 삼켰습니다. 17 용은 여자에게 몹시 화가 나서, 여자의 다른 자손, 곧 하나님의 명령에 순종하고 예수에 관하여 증언하는 일에 충성스러운 사람들과 싸우러 나갔습니다.
18 용은 바닷가에 섰습니다.

The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
12 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, she cried out (A)in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, (B)a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 (C)His tail drew a third (D)of the stars of heaven (E)and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood (F)before the woman who was ready to give birth, (G)to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child (H)who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was (I)caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then (J)the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there (K)one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Satan Thrown Out of Heaven
7 And war broke out in heaven: (L)Michael and his angels fought (M)with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they [a]did not prevail, nor was a place found for [b]them in heaven any longer. 9 So (N)the great dragon was cast out, (O)that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, (P)who deceives the whole world; (Q)he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, (R)“Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, (S)who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And (T)they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, (U)and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore (V)rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! (W)Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, (X)because he knows that he has a short time.”
The Woman Persecuted
13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted (Y)the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 (Z)But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, (AA)that she might fly (AB)into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished (AC)for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent (AD)spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus [c]Christ.

12 Poi apparve nel cielo un gran segno: una donna vestita di sole, con la luna sotto i suoi piedi e sul suo capo una corona di dodici stelle.
2 Era incinta e gridava per le doglie e i dolori del parto.
3 Nel cielo apparve anche un altro segno: un gran dragone rosso che aveva sette teste e dieci corna, e sulle sue teste vi erano sette diademi.
4 La sua coda trascinava dietro a sé la terza parte delle stelle del cielo e le gettò sulla terra; poi il dragone si fermò davanti alla donna che stava per partorire, per divorare suo figlio quando lo avesse partorito.
5 Ed ella partorí un figlio maschio, che deve governare tutte le nazioni con uno scettro di ferro e il figlio di lei fu rapito presso Dio e il suo trono.
6 E la donna fuggí nel deserto, dove ha un luogo preparato da Dio, perché vi sia nutrita durante milleduecentosessanta giorni.
7 E vi fu guerra in cielo: Michele e i suoi angeli combatterono contro il dragone; anche il dragone e i suoi angeli combatterono,
8 ma non vinsero e per loro non fu piú trovato posto nel cielo.
9 Cosí il gran dragone, il serpente antico, che è chiamato diavolo e Satana, che seduce tutto il mondo, fu gettato sulla terra; con lui furono gettati anche i suoi angeli.
10 Allora udii una grande voce nel cielo che diceva: «Ora è giunta la salvezza, la potenza e il regno del nostro Dio e la potestà del suo Cristo, poiché è stato gettato giú l'accusatore dei nostri fratelli colui che li accusava davanti al nostro Dio giorno e notte.
11 Ma essi l'hanno vinto per mezzo del sangue dell'Agnello e per mezzo della parola della loro testimonianza; e non hanno amato la loro vita, tanto da esporla alla morte.
12 Perciò rallegratevi, o cieli, e voi che abitate in essi. Ma guai a voi, abitanti della terra e del mare, perché il diavolo è sceso a voi con grande ira, sapendo di aver poco tempo».
13 E quando il dragone si vide gettato sulla terra, perseguitò la donna che aveva partorito il figlio maschio.
14 Ma furono date alla donna le due ali della grande aquila, per volare nel deserto nel suo luogo, dove essa è nutrita per un tempo, dei tempi e la metà di un tempo, lontano dalla presenza del serpente.
15 Allora il serpente gettò dalla sua bocca, dietro alla donna, dell'acqua come un fiume, per farla portare via dal fiume,
16 ma la terra soccorse la donna, e la terra aprí la sua bocca ed inghiottí il fiume che il dragone aveva riversato dalla sua bocca.
17 Il dragone allora si adirò contro la donna e se ne andò a far guerra col resto della progenie di lei, che custodisce i comandamenti di Dio ed ha la testimonianza di Gesú Cristo. Poi mi fermai sulla sabbia del mare.

The Woman and the Dragon
12 A great sign(A) appeared in heaven:(B) a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars(C) on her head. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain(D) as she was about to give birth. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven:(E) an enormous red dragon(F) with seven heads(G) and ten horns(H) and seven crowns(I) on its heads. 4 Its tail swept a third(J) of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth.(K) The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child(L) the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”[a](M) And her child was snatched up(N) to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.(O)
7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael(P) and his angels fought against the dragon,(Q) and the dragon and his angels(R) fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent(S) called the devil,(T) or Satan,(U) who leads the whole world astray.(V) He was hurled to the earth,(W) and his angels with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven(X) say:
“Now have come the salvation(Y) and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,(Z)
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
11 They triumphed over(AA) him
by the blood of the Lamb(AB)
and by the word of their testimony;(AC)
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.(AD)
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens(AE)
and you who dwell in them!
But woe(AF) to the earth and the sea,(AG)
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
13 When the dragon(AH) saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.(AI) 14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle,(AJ) so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time,(AK) out of the serpent’s reach. 15 Then from his mouth the serpent(AL) spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. 16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war(AM) against the rest of her offspring(AN)—those who keep God’s commands(AO) and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.(AP)
