시드기야가 예레미야에게 한 부탁
37 바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕은 여호야김의 아들인 [a]여호야긴 대신 요시 야의 아들 시드기야를 유다 왕으로 세웠다.
2 그러나 왕과 그의 신하들과 모든 백성들은 내가 전한 여호와의 말씀에 귀를 기울이지 않았다.
3 시드기야왕은 셀레먀의 아들 여후갈과 마아세야의 아들인 제사장 스바냐를 나에게 보내 그들을 위해서 우리 하나님 여호와께 기도해 달라고 간청하였다.
4 그때 나는 아직 갇히지 않았으므로 백성들 가운데 자유롭게 다니고 있었다.
5 한편 예루살렘을 포위하고 있던 바빌로니아군은 바로의 군대가 이집트 국경을 넘어서 오고 있다는 말을 듣고 [b]이집트군과 맞서 싸우기 위해 예루살렘을 떠났다.
6-7 그때 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 그들에게 이렇게 일러 주라고 나에게 말씀하셨다. “너희를 보내 나에게 묻게 한 유다 왕에게 가서 말하라. 너희를 도우려고 나오는 바로의 군대는 자기 땅 이집트로 돌아갈 것이며
8 바빌로니아군이 다시 와서 이 성을 공격하고 점령하여 불사를 것이다.
9 “너희는 자신을 속이고 바빌로니아군이 너희를 아주 떠났다고 생각하지 말아라. 그들은 떠나지 않을 것이다.
10 만일 너희가 바빌로니아의 전 군대를 무찔러 그들에게 살아 남은 자가 천막 안에 누워 있는 부상자밖에 없을지라도 그들이 일어나서 이 성을 잿더미로 만들어 버릴 것이다.”
감옥에 갇힌 예레미야
11 바빌로니아군은 바로의 군대 때문에 예루살렘에서 철수하였다.
12 그래서 나는 우리 집안의 재산 중 나에게 돌아올 몫을 받으려고 예루살렘을 떠나 베냐민 땅으로 향하였다.
13 내가 베냐민문에 이르렀을 때 하나냐의 손자이며 셀레먀의 아들인 문지기 대장 ‘이리야’ 라 하는 자가 나를 붙잡아 “네가 바빌로니아 사람들에게 넘어가려고 하는구나” 하였다.
14 그때 내가 “그렇지 않소. 나는 바빌로니아 사람들에게 넘어가려는 것이 아니오” 하였으나 이리야는 내 말을 듣지 않고 나를 잡아 대신들에게 끌고 갔다.
15 대신들은 나에게 마구 화를 내면서 나를 때리고 서기관 요나단의 집에 가두라고 지시했는데 이 집은 감옥으로 사용되고 있었다.
16 내가 지하 감방에 갇힌 지 여러 날이 지난 후에
17 시드기야왕이 사람을 보내 나를 이끌어내고 왕궁으로 불러 여호와께 받은 말씀이 있느냐고 조용히 물었다. 그래서 나는 있다고 대답하며 “왕은 바빌로니아 왕의 손에 넘어가게 될 것입니다” 하고 덧붙였다.
18 그러고서 나는 다시 시드기야왕에게 말하였다. “내가 왕과 왕의 신하들과 이 백성에게 무슨 죄를 지었다고 나를 감옥에 가두셨습니까?
19 바빌로니아 왕이 왕과 이 땅을 치지 않을 것이라고 예언한 왕의 예언자들은 지금 어디 있습니까?
20 내 주 왕이시여, 제발 부탁합니다. 나를 서기관 요나단의 집에 있는 감옥으로 돌려보내지 마십시오. 그렇지 않으면 내가 거기서 죽게 될지도 모릅니다.”
21 그러자 시드기야왕은 나를 지하 감옥에 돌려보내지 말고 [c]궁중 감옥에 두어 ‘빵집 거리’ 에서 매일 빵 한 개씩 갖다 주라고 명령하였다. 그래서 나는 성 안에 빵이 다 떨어질 때까지 그 빵을 얻어먹고 그 곳에 머물러 있었다.

37 巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒立约西亚的儿子西底迦代替约雅敬的儿子哥尼雅做犹大王。 2 西底迦和他的臣仆及人民却没有听从耶和华借耶利米先知说的话。 3 西底迦王派示利米雅的儿子犹甲和玛西雅的儿子祭司西番雅来对耶利米先知说：“求你为我们向我们的上帝耶和华祷告。” 4 当时，耶利米还可以自由来往，没有被他们囚在狱中。 5 那时，法老的军队已从埃及出发，正在围攻耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见消息就退兵了。
6 耶和华对耶利米先知说： 7 “这是以色列的上帝耶和华的话，‘犹大王派你们来求问我，你们告诉他，前来支援你们的法老军队必中途返回埃及， 8 而迦勒底人必卷土重来，攻占这城，将它付之一炬。 9 耶和华说，你们不要自欺，以为迦勒底人必撤军。其实他们不会撤军。 10 即使你们能打败迦勒底全军，他们营中受伤的残兵也必起来烧毁这城。’”
11 当迦勒底人因害怕法老的军队而撤军的时候， 12 耶利米起身离开耶路撒冷，前往便雅悯境内去接收他在同族中应得的地业。 13 当耶利米先知来到便雅悯门时，哈拿尼亚的孙子、示利米雅的儿子守门官伊利雅逮捕了他，说：“你想去投奔迦勒底人！” 14 耶利米说：“不，我不是去投奔迦勒底人。”但伊利雅不信，把他押到众官长那里。 15 官长们大怒，命人鞭打耶利米，把他囚禁在书记约拿单的房子里，因为他们已把这房子改作监牢。 16 耶利米被囚禁在地牢中许多天。
17 后来，西底迦王派人把他带到自己的宫中，私下问他：“耶和华有什么话给你吗？”耶利米说：“有，你要被交在巴比伦王手中。” 18 耶利米又问他：“我在什么事上得罪了你、你的臣仆或人民，以致你们把我囚在监牢中？ 19 那些曾向你们预言‘巴比伦王绝不会来这里攻打你们’的先知如今在哪里呢？ 20 现在，我主我王啊，请听我说！求你不要把我送回书记约拿单的房子，免得我死在那里。”
21 于是，西底迦王下令把耶利米囚在护卫兵的院子里，派人每天从饼铺取一个饼给他，直到城中绝粮。耶利米就这样住在护卫兵的院子里。

Jerusalem’s Last Days
37 Zedekiah son of Josiah(A) reigned as king in the land of Judah(B) in place of Jehoiachin[a](C) son of Jehoiakim, for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made him king. 2 He and his officers and the people of the land did not obey the words of the Lord(D) that He spoke through Jeremiah the prophet.
3 Nevertheless, King Zedekiah sent Jehucal(E) son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah(F) son of Maaseiah, the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, requesting, “Please pray to the Lord our God for us!” 4 Jeremiah was going about his daily tasks[b] among the people, for they had not yet put him into the prison.(G) 5 Pharaoh’s army had left Egypt,(H) and when the Chaldeans, who were besieging Jerusalem, heard the report, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
6 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet: 7 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: This is what you will say to Judah’s king,(I) who is sending you to inquire of Me: Watch: Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you,(J) is going to return to its own land of Egypt. 8 The Chaldeans will then return and fight against this city. They will capture it and burn it down.(K) 9 This is what the Lord says: Don’t deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The Chaldeans will leave us for good,’ for they will not leave. 10 Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire Chaldean army that is fighting with you,(L) and there remained among them only the badly wounded[c] men, each in his tent, they would get up and burn this city down.”
Jeremiah’s Imprisonment
11 When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem because of Pharaoh’s army, 12 Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there(M) among the people. 13 But when he was at the Benjamin Gate,(N) an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”
14 “That’s a lie,” Jeremiah replied. “I am not deserting to the Chaldeans!” Irijah would not listen to him but apprehended Jeremiah and took him to the officials. 15 The officials were angry at Jeremiah and beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan(O) the scribe, for it had been made into a prison. 16 So Jeremiah went into a cell in the dungeon(P) and stayed there many days.
Jeremiah Summoned by Zedekiah
17 King Zedekiah later sent for him and received him, and in his house privately asked him, “Is there a word from the Lord?”(Q)
“There is,” Jeremiah responded, and he continued, “You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”(R) 18 Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you or your servants or these people that you have put me in prison? 19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, claiming, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you and this land’?(S) 20 So now please listen, my lord the king. May my petition come before you.(T) Don’t send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.”
21 So King Zedekiah gave orders, and Jeremiah was placed in the guard’s courtyard.(U) He was given a loaf of bread each day from the baker’s street until all the bread was gone from the city. So Jeremiah remained in the guard’s courtyard.
